Dear Parents and Students
Today’s edition of Blaze is the last for the 2017-18 school year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire IST community for their incredible support of our school over the past year. As always parents have been unflagging in their efforts to work together with teachers and support staff to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and I know that each and every IST employee joins with me in thanking you for this support.
With only five days of school to go things have been very busy, and they are about to get busier! To cap off this week we will come together this afternoon to celebrate the Graduation of the Class of 2018. We wish the graduates every success and happiness with the adventures that await them. The ceremony starts at 4PM in the Han Theatre so it is not too late to join us!
On Monday morning at 8:25AM we will celebrate the academic progress and achievements of many of our secondary students at the end of year Secondary Awards Ceremony. Students will then participate in Secondary Sports Day activities, before attending the Athletics Awards Ceremony at 2PM. The athletics awards celebrate student sporting participation and success throughout the school year.
On Tuesday elementary students will enjoy Elementary Sports Day activities, with Nursery to Grade 1 student activities running from 8:30AM until 11AM, and Grade 2-5 activities running from 12:45PM until 3:05PM.
On Wednesday between 10AM and 2PM we will come together for the annual Community Fair, so be sure to plan to come along and join in the community spirit!
The Grade 5 Transition Ceremony will follow this on Thursday afternoon at 1:45PM. Congratulations to the Grade 5 students who now move onto the exciting challenges of middle school.
The last day of school for the 2017-18 school year will be next Friday, 8 June. Friday is a half-day only and school will end at 11:45am. Buses will depart school at 12PM (noon). Please note that there will be no lunch breaks on Friday. Please also note that all departure forms must be completed before 10AM.
Students will be issued with their copy of the 2017-18 Internationalist Yearbook on Friday morning. Special thanks to the Advancement and Communications department for producing such a wonderful memento of the school year for us all to enjoy.
Students will also be given their Semester 2 Progress Reports before returning home on Friday. I wish to congratulate all of our students on the wonderful progress that they have made this year. We are all very proud of their many accomplishments and know that next year will bring even more. If parents have any questions or concerns about the reports, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the school administration. Please also note that if departure documentation is not completed by 10AM, we will be unable to issue report cards and year books on Friday.

Working Learning Acting TOGETHER
I would be amiss if I did not reiterate my appreciation to the community on your continuing generous support to the Solar Panel Project. As of Thursday May 31, 155 panels have been donated for and we are well past the 40% mark. Thank you to the families and companies that have come out in support of this student initiated project that will contribute to the earth’s environment. Heartwarming stories of staff and student donations keep up our hope that we are going to reach our target, the latest one being that of Grade 5 student Jared Taylor, who used up his “new year money” savings to contribute 1500 RMB to make IST go solar!
The end of year is an exciting time for us all as we look forward to a well-earned rest and possibly a return to our homes and families, or an exciting adventure here in China or in another country. Unfortunately it is also a time at which we must bid farewell to students, friends, and colleagues. On behalf of all of us who will remain in Tianjin next year, I would like to wish the IST families that will be leaving our school every happiness in their new schools and homes.
I wish to make special mention of departing IST Board of Governors member and chair, Michael Portie, and PFO stalwart Monica Portie, for their special contribution to our school and its continued development over the past four years.
Every year we must also bid farewell to members of our teaching faculty and I would like to take this moment to thank the following teachers, in ascending order of years of service to the school, for all that they have contributed to our students and community:
Andreia Pequeno
Libby Kennedy
Kim Zatarga
Andy Gaskell
Ujjala Shroff

Finally, on behalf of all of us here at the school, I wish to thank our parents for entrusting their children’s education to our school, and our students for being such fine representatives of their own countries and cultures. Thank you to the IST Board of Governors for their constant guidance and support, and to the committed staff of IST for being such a terrific team and for making IST a friendly place where the needs of our students come first. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
Warmest regards
Steve MoodyDirector

WHAT DO WE OFFER?
MS/HS food offer
A retail concept oriented environment as MS/HS students
are young adults who need choices, brands/concepts and
freedom in deciding the composition of their lunch.
We propose a different service concept that blends and
merges the “A la Carte “and “Set Menu” offers
into one single frame.
Students will have several stations to choose from, each
station serving daily dishes bound into a concept
(e.g. Grill, Wok, Western, and Asian, etc.). As such,
each customer can chose between paying the basic fare
for the main dish (A la Carte) or upgrading the chosen
main dish into a Set Menu or a Deal price lower than the
sum of the different components. The upgrade allows a
drink + dessert or Fruit + salad or Soup in a separate plate.
Examples:
Chicken curry + Rice
22 RMB
Upgrade 10RMB
(Drink + salad or soup + Fruit
or Dessert)
Set Menu Deal 32 RMB
