DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

Linda Van Drie AndrzjewskiDirector of Athletics | Sixth Year

As the Director of Athletics at Wilmington University, I would like to welcome you to the 2013-14 academic year. This is an exciting

time for the Wildcats, as it is the second full season after we officially opened our facility on Route 40. The new athletics complex

will be home to six of our athletic teams, the administrative offices and another state of the art athletic training facility. The facility

features a beautiful turf field and outdoor seating for 300, a spacious gymnasium with seating for 400 and additional locker room

space. This new facility will enhance the growth of our program and be a sense of pride for all Wildcats.

Our athletic teams continue to grow and do well. For the fourth year in a row, the men’s program has won the coveted Restaino Cup

in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. This is no doubt a reflection of our excellent coaching staff. This year we plan to build

on this success and continue to compete for conference and post-season titles in all of our sports programs.

The success of our program is contingent upon the support of the administration the quality of the student-athletes we have in

each sport. At Wilmington University we are proud of our strong staff and wonderful student-athletes. This is an exciting era for

Wilmington University and the athletic program as members of NCAA Division II. I am very fortunate to be working with an athletic

department that has such a fine history and a real vision of what it takes to compete at the Division II level. I am also honored to be

associated with a very caring, dedicated and talented athletics staff and coaches and especially our wonderful and diligent student-

athletes who work so hard to carry on the tradition of excellence at Wilmington University.

I hope that you will take the time to support all of the Wildcats’ teams. Their hard work and contributions to Wilmington University,

on and off the competitive field, are to be recognized and commended. It is a great time to be a Wildcat!

Yours in Sport,

Linda M. Van Drie Andrzjewski

WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY AT A GLANCE

Wilmington University is a private, non-profit university that offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of career areas. The

University began with a charter class of 194 students in 1968 and now enrolls a diverse student body numbering more than 15,000 annually.

Founded as Wilmington College, on September 10, 2007 the institution officially became Wilmington University after the approval of the Board of Trustees and

the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The name was changed to better reflect the emphasis on bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree programs

that distinguish Wilmington University from other colleges as well as to effectively communicate the full commitment and mission of the University.

The program of day, evening, and weekend classes serves traditional high school graduates as well as non-traditional adult students in need of flexible scheduling.

Classes are primarily offered in 15-week, 7-week, and weekend modular formats. In addition to these face-to-face learning options, Wilmington University offers

a wide array of online learning options, including fully-online degree programs and hybrid courses and programs (combining face-to-face and online learning).

Wilmington University’s main campus is located near the cities of Wilmington and historic New Castle, Delaware. The campus is easily accessible by air, rail, and

bus. Our central location in the northeast/mid-Atlantic corridor of the United States provides students convenient access to the major cities of Philadelphia, New

York, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. Recreational areas such as beaches and ski resorts are within easy driving distance.

Additional University locations in Delaware include the Wilson Graduate Center, Middletown, Dover, Dover Air Force Base, Georgetown, Rehoboth Beach, and

North Wilmington. In New Jersey, Wilmington University offers programs on Burlington County College and Cumberland County College campuses and the

Joint Base Education Center for McGuire AFB/Fort Dix/Lakehurst Naval Air Station, in addition to a selection of courses offered at Salem Community College. In

Maryland, select Wilmington University teacher-education degree programs are available at Cecil College’s Elkton location.

Wilmington University generally serves commuter students and does not provide student housing facilities. However, the University welcomes all qualified

students and assists those needing living accommodations by providing a listing of nearby rental opportunities.

COACHING STAFF

Brian AugustHead Coach | 10th Season

Brian August begins his tenth year as head coach of the Wildcats. A graduate of the University of Delaware, where he was a standout baseball player,

August was the assistant baseball coach, assistant athletic director, and building and grounds supervisor at Cecil County Community College prior

to coming to Wilmington University.

August took the Wildcats deeper into the postseason than ever before in 2013, earning the first No. 1 seed in for the East Regional Tournament in

program history, while also shattering the NCAA era wins record by going 43-17 overall. The team was one game away from reaching the NCAA

Division II World Series in 2013, falling in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship game held at Southern New Hampshire University.

August has enjoyed some of his most successful campaigns over the past three seasons, leading his team to

113-44 overall record in three seasons. He is currently 277-183-1 in nine seasons at the helm of the Wildcats.

August and the Wildcats have also won each of the past three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament

Championships, advancing to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.

The Delaware native has coached five CACC Pitchers of the Year, three CACC Players of the Year, one CACC Rookie

of the Year and has been named CACC Coach of the Year in 2010. On top of numerous CACC All-Conference

selections, August has also had seven players named to various post season All-American Teams.

August was a three-year starter for the Blue Hens, and led Delaware to the NCAA post season in 1996. He was

named to the America East All-Conference team in 1995, 1996, and 1997, and was a member of three nationally

ranked Delaware teams during those seasons. August helped lead the Blue Hens to the NAC title in 1995 and

1996, and the America East title in 1997. He was also named the America East Player of the Year in 1997, and still

holds many offensive records for Delaware.

After his senior year of high school in 1994, August was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League

Baseball Draft. Brian instead went to play for the Blue Hens, and following his career with Delaware, was again

selected in 1997 in the draft by the New York Yankees. August went on to play for three years at third base in the

Yankees’ minor league system, garnering MVP honors in the New York Penn League in 1998.

August helped lead a Cecil team that finished the 2004 season with a 41-12 record, including a loss in the regional final. The Seahawks ended the year ranked fifth in the nation in NJCAA Division II.

His 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012 Wildcat squads captured the CACC Championship and earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals. The 2007 squad made history with the CACC

Championship, earning the teams’ first appearance into an NCAA Regional Tournament. Coach August and his team finished third at the NCAA Division II East Regional tournament after winning

the CACC Tournament in 2009.

Coach August currently works in the University’s athletic department as the Associate Athletic Director.

He resides in New Castle with his wife Ashley, along with his three children, Tyler (8), Madelyn (6), and Cameron (3).

Coach Groff was a member of the 2000 Region X championship team at Wilmington University during his senior season. Following

that season he was named as an Honorable Mention All-American and led the team in innings pitched and was second in wins.

Groff played his first two seasons at Cecil Community College and came to Wilmington for the 1999 season. During his career he

compiled a 26-13 record.

His primary responsibilities will be to work with the pitching staff and helps with the recruiting efforts.

COACHING STAFF

Doug Nowell returns for his fifth season with the Wildcat baseball team. He came to Wilmington University after establishing

himself as one of the premier youth and high school coaches in the tri-state area.

Most recently, he spent the previous four seasons as the head baseball coach at Salesianum High School, where he went 74-18 and

won a state championship in 2008. Coach Nowell also spent time coaching at A.I. DuPont and Delcastle High Schools.

Nowell will continue to be the team’s third base coach in 2014, as well as being responsible for the infielders and assist August on

the offensive game plan.

While his on-field success is noteworthy, Nowell’s passion for teaching the game stands out most. His daily approach to the proper

way to play baseball continues to motivate both current and former players, as well as the coaches who have worked with him. His

competitiveness is contagious, but his respect for the game and his opponents remains paramount. This is clearly evidenced in his

players, on the youth, high school, and collegiate levels.

Currently, Nowell is the director of the Delaware Sabres Youth Baseball Organization, and has spent time working with the Delaware

Vets/Newark and Delaware Diamonds associations.

He resides in Newark with his wife Megan, along with their three children Austin (18), Brock (15), and Camryn (12).

Crowe is a local product to Delaware, graduating from Salesianum High School in 2007, where he was an All-State catcher as

a senior, before pursuing a playing career at nearby Wesley College from 2008-11. He graduated from Wesley with a bachelor’s

the baseball, football, and basketball teams. He spent 14 years as the head coach of the baseball team, leading his teams to three

DIAA State Championships, four finals appearances, as well as four more semi-finals appearances. Walker has been involved with

the Salesianum baseball program for 25 year in many different capacities.

Prior to coaching, Walker was a four year member of the West Chester University baseball team as a catcher, graduating in 1980.
