What must educators do to remain

in compliance with Act 48? Educators must maintain

their certificates as active by earning six collegiate credits or six PDE-approved in-service credits

or 180 continuing education hours or any combination of the above every five calendar years.

NOTE: Each collegiate credit is equal to 30 continuing education hours. All

credits and hours must be related to an educator’s certificate type or area of assignment,

unless enrolled in an administrative program or approved by the school board.

WSSD October 2010 Training Email Hi Everyone, Before I share this month’s technology workshops, I wanted to share a few details on what you can expect with this year’s technology workshops:

During September and October, SMART and Promethean workshops served as an introduction or re-introduction to the tools and programs for each system. Starting in November, SMART and Promethean trainings will focus on specific skills and features related to creating dynamic presentations with each software program.

o Later this month I will be emailing a survey for both tools to determine which features and techniques you are most interested in learning more about. Please look for electronic copies in your inbox soon!

A new five-year period to obtain Act 48 credit hours began on July 1, 2010. You can easily obtain credit hours by attending WSSD technology workshops at NO COST. Similar workshops offered by the DCIU now cost $65.00 a session.

Differentiated Workshops – In response to inquiries about workshop meeting times, I’m offering three types of workshops this year:

o Universal – These workshops are building-specific and held afterschool. They focus on communication and presentation technologies used throughout district – the meat and potatoes.

o Collaborative – These workshops are open to middle and high school teachers and are also held afterschool. They focus on instructional strategies and technology integration that will enhance your lessons and curricula – the goodies.

o Lunch ‘n’ Learn – These workshops are designed to share instructional technologies that are quick to learn and easy to use in your next class - the highlights.
