A Bi-Monthly Newsletter Volume 30 Issue 4. July/Aug 2015
It has been quite a warm summer. The Board has been concentra6ng on ge8ng the new website up and running. My goal
is to have it go live in September just in 6me for membership renewal.
Our next Board mee6ng is scheduled for October 30th and we will be discussing the upcoming Fall CLE and the WSPA plan for the future. The Fall CLE is tenta6vely scheduled for October 24th and there will be a Silent Auc6on. Proceeds from the Auc6on go to CLE scholarships. This year we can accept Credit Cards. More informa6on about the CLE program will follow via email in the coming months.
We now have a SeaNle Chapter director, Pam Hokansen. The Chapter mee6ngs will start up in the Fall months.
There are several open posi6ons for WSPA management. Current openings include Secretary, Job Bank Coordinator, CLE Cer6fica6on Coordinator, Snohomish Chapter Director, East King County Chapter Director, South King County Chapter Director. Serving as a member of WSPA management is a great way to get involved in the day to day opera6ons of the associa6on, boost your resume and shape the profession. Involvement is very rewarding.
For those of you who have been asking about Paralegal week, we will be having it at a standard 6me of the Fourth week of October. This should make planning easier.
I appreciate your comments and sugges6ons about how WSPA can meet your needs and help you get what you want for your personal and professional development. You can email me at [email protected]. Have a happy rest of summer.

Join fellow paralegals on October 24 at our annual Fall CLE Seminar, as we kick of National Pro Bono Week! Pro bono work is a great opportunity for paralegals to give back to their community, network with other legal professionals, and build critical skills and abilities.
NFPA and WSPA each offer an annual pro bono award to a practicing paralegal who has exhibited extraordinary dedication to the delivery of quality legal services to a portion of the population that cannot afford to pay for legal services.
Do you volunteer with a pro bono organization? Consider volunteering as WSPA’s pro bono coordinator. The coordinator provides information, resources, and support to those involved with or wanting to be involved with pro bono opportunities. Contact [email protected] if you are interested.

The EPA & You
Do you have a passion for the environment? Maybe high earnings are not necessarily your ultimate goal?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funds the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) program, which provides grants to non-profit agencies, like the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA) in Seattle, to engage the talents and experiences of people who are at least 55 years of age to do support work at the EPA. Enrollees can maintain or increase their skills while taking on meaningful work that contributes to the environment.
Open positions are usually posted at the State of Washington’s WorkSource and on Craigslist, and distributed to many community based organizations. Occasionally, EPA work groups look for people with paralegal background to provide high quality assistance in their records management, FOIA response work, and program and project support, and these will be posted at the WSPA Job Bank.
Benefits include paid federal holidays, accrued vacation and sick leave, flexible hours, premium-paid health insurance for full-time (30+ hours) enrollees, and enrollee-paid dental insurance.
If you, or someone you know, would like more information about the SEE program, visit http://napca.org/employment-opportunities/see/, or contact Lois Kohashi-Sinclair at [email protected] or 206-838-8163.
