GROUP/LIST MENU WITH CAR BODY MODEL


Problem Description A new car has been designed and a stress analysis is required.

The model contains many property sets, and it will be important toorganize and re-name these properties before the analysis isperformed.

Import the MSC.Nastran model(in a .DAT file) into an MSC.Patrandatabase.

Re-organize and re-name the property sets.


Suggested Exercise Steps1. Create a database.2. Import the finite element model from an MSC.Nastran model file.3. Create groups using the type of property, i.e. shell, solid.4. Create a group for each property set, as opposed to type.5. Rename each group.6. Remove group windows from group body_panel.7. Quit MSC.Patran.


Step 3. Create Groups (Cont.)

Create the suspension groupconsisting of only 1D property sets.

a. Continuing on on the sameform as the previous groupcreation, enter suspensionfor Group Name.

b. Select all the 1D PropertyTypes (Damper, Rod, andSpring).

c. Click on Apply.

Create the a final group, engine,consisting of all 3D property sets.

a. Continuing on the Group /Create form, enter enginefor Group Name.

b. Select the 3D Property Type(Solid).

c. Click on Apply.

Step 4. Create a Group For Each Property Set

Create a group for each of theproperty sets in the database.

a. Change Action and Method toCreate and Property Set,respectively.

b. Change Single Group toMultiple Groups.

c. Select everything under PropertySets.

d. Click on Apply.

Continue this process for therest of the groups by changingthe Target Group as discussedon the previous page. Use thefollowing table to rename eachgroup.

Change the group posted for thewindows viewport.

a. Select the windowsviewport by clicking insidethe viewport.

Note that the viewport default_viewport does not change, but that theviewport windows contains the body panel without any windows
