1. Fabricator/installer shall be responsible for providing permits, work, and materials in accordance with all codes, ordinances and regulations applicable at the project location.
2. These drawings are intended to provide sufficient information to convey general design intent to the sign fabricator/installer. Additional technical advice and detailing may be required for successful completion of this project and is the sign fabricator/ installer’s responsibility.
3. Sign fabricator/installer shall be responsible for checking contract documents, field conditions, and dimensions for accuracy and confirming that all work is buildable as shown before proceeding with fabrication. If there are any discrepancies or omissions which would interfere with satisfactory completion of the work, the sign fabricator/installer shall obtain a clarification from the architect/designer before proceeding with the work in question.
4. Dimensions are not adjustable, unless noted (+/-). The sign fabricator/installer shall not scale drawings.
5. Sign fabricator/installer is responsible for the means, methods and techniques of installation, safety precautions in connection with the work, and for the acts or omissions of the subcontractors.
6. Provide shop drawings for each sign type showing fabrication, mounting system, and installation details. Include fabrication plans, elevations, and component
details. Indicate materials, fittings, finishes, fasteners, anchorages, and accessory items.
7. Install all manufactured items, materials, and equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer’s recommended specifications.
8. “Typical” (TYP.) means identical for all conditions that match original condition illustrated unless otherwise noted. “Similar” means comparable characteristics of the condition cited.
9. Sign fabricator/installer shall maintain site in a clean and orderly condition at all times.
10. Sign fabricator/installer shall protect all surfaces not involved in the work from any damage.
11. Sign fabricator/installer shall repair all surfaces damaged during the installation of the sign system.
12. All materials and workmanship shall be guaranteed by the sign fabricator/installer for one (1) year from the day of substantial completion.
13. Sign fabricator/installer shall provide adequate erosion control during the course of the project.
14. Sign fabricator/installer to provide for all electrical design as required by sign design.
15. All wood in contact with the ground, slabs on grade, or masonry to be pressure treated.
16. Standardization of Sign Location & Mounting Heights: Signs requiring different decisions by the road user shall
be spaced sufficiently using the MUTCD Standards as a guideline. Signs installed at the side of the road in rural districts shall be at least 5 ft., measured from the bottom of the sign to the near edge of the pavement. Where parking or pedestrian movements occur, the clearance to the bottom of the sign shall be at least 7 ft. clearance above grade. Directional signs on freeways and expressways shall be installed with a minimum height of 7 ft. clearance above grade.
17. All graphics will be supplied in digital EPS (encapsulated postscript) form. All type shall be outlined and supplied in digital EPS form.
18. Actual sign locations to be verified with county representative and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) prior to installation.
19. Sign fabricator/installer shall coordinate with Loudoun County representatives and Virginia Department of Transportation on the final locations for the primary and secondary monument gateway signs.
20. Sign fabricator/installer shall be responsible for contacting Miss Utilities before start of project.
21. Sign fabricator/installer shall follow the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) guidelines for Lateral Offsets. See section 2A.19 Lateral Offset in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 2003 Edition.

SIGN PANEL:OPTION 1:Decorative shape panel to be boxed aluminum with custom extruded aluminum cap and raised border.OPTION 2:Decorative shape panel to be high density urethane with custom formed cap and raised boder.
1. All text will be outlined for digital output. See general note #17, sheet WS0.1.
2. Use all capital letters for “LOUDOUN COUNTY”. Raised flat formed letters to be high density urethane and securely attached to face of sign panel. Letters to be painted Metallic Gold.
3. “Welcome to” and “EST. 1757” to be P3 (light green) and painted/silk-screened onto sign panel face.
4. All reinforcement shall be internal to sign panel. No fasteners, fittings or brackets shall be visible on sign face. All exposed fas-teners, fittings, and brackets on sign shall be painted so as to be inconspicuous.
MOUNTING:1. Sign face to be mounted to masonry sign base, refer to WS2.1.2
for stone wall details and specifications. a. Masonry base to be constructed of concrete block with
a fieldstone veneer. Fieldstone veneer to reflect historic characteristics and pattern of stacked fieldstone walls found throughtout the county.
b. Architectural precast shall be used for the masonry base coping. Color of precast coping to coordinate with colors of stone veneer.
2. Sign fabricator/installer to provide installation details for the attachment of sign panel to the masonry base, see GENERAL NOTES, #6, WSO.1.
3. Sign fabricator/installer shall determine proper windload requirements for sign. Sign mounting shall be so constructed as to hold sign in a proper and permanent position.
4. Sign locations/installation shall be coordinated with representative of Loudoun County.

reinforcement shall be painted green, P2 to match back of sign. 2. Silk-screen colors over sign face as indicated. Back of sign to be painted green, P2.3. Border to be 3/4”, high intensity reflective sheeting. 4. All type shall be outlined. Digital files will be provided to fabricator/installer as an Adobe
Illustrator EPS file. See GENERAL NOTE #17, WS0.1.
MOUNTING:1. POST - Holophane - North Yorkshire Series, catalog number AOLXXXXX-NY10/17-
CIS/BLACK or a comparable product, with invisible mounting system. Post is designed with bracket for mounting of sign panel and decorative brackets. Post shall have a 4” round finial.
2. No through bolts visible on sign face.3. Fabricator/Installer to determine wind load requirements for this sign type.4. Sign fabricator/installer shall coordinate with post manufacturer. SIGN INSTALLATION:1. Sign posts, foundations, and mountings shall be so constructed as to hold signs in a
proper and permanent position, and to resist swaying in the wind or displacement by vandalism.
2. Exact sign locations shall be determined by representative of Loudoun County and/or by a representative of the Virginia Department of Transportation.

4. Provide 3/4” - 3M High Intensity Reflective sheeting border on edge of sign face as shown.
MOUNTING:1. Ground-mounted sign supports shall meet Virginia Department of Transportation’s breakaway standards and shall be
breakaway as required.2. Sign posts, foundations, and mountings shall be so constructed as to hold signs in a proper and permanent position, and
to resist swaying in the wind or displacement by vandalism. Installation shall meet existing Virginia Department of Transportation’s specifications and regulations for the proper installation of signs.
3. The sign posts will be 4”x6” pressure treated square wooden post painted to match P3 with exterior, satin, Benjamin Moore Paint: # 522, Dried Parsley.
