There will be one 15 minute intermission.

Producer’s NotesThe JFed Players Community Theatre Ensemble has been in existence for six years.

As we move forward, we constantly try to find different types of productions that will challenge our players and attract new participants while entertaining our audiences. Our thirteenth production, The Twilight Zone, is just such a show, as it is comprised of four distinct episodes.

Producing four episodes of The Twilight Zone has been an interesting journey. Part of the challenge has been how to put them together, just like a puzzle. Each episode has its own story and set and exists separately from the other stories.

We used three directors for this project, one veteran and two of our upcoming directors, giving them a chance to show us their visions and styles. The three directors spent many hours together deciding how to integrate their own visions with each other, sharing set pieces, and ideas about how to bring these episodes alive for you in a way that would bring you back to the days the nation sat around the television watching Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone.

In our productions, we sometimes we use complete sets and sometimes we take a more minimalist view as we have done here tonight. What you see on stage are the actors – telling the familiar stories penned by Rod Serling. What we see – not visible to you - are the numerous people working hard to create these stories for you. I would like to especially thank the backstage production crew including set builders, for working on the pieces to give them a feel of the different periods that are being explored. To all of our assistant directors, costume people, technical support (lights and sound) publicity people, and of course, the directors themselves, I thank you for your amazing investment in this and every production you work on.

I hope you enjoy our production of The Twilight Zone tonight. If you’ve never seen it before, you will get a taste of what many of us grew up with. For those of you who remember it from your childhood, I hope this brings back fun and perhaps a little scary memories!

Please enjoy your foray into the “...the fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow — between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone.”-Rod Serling

The Twilight ZoneThe Twilight Zone is an iconic American television series created by Rod Serling

and ran on CBS for five years, 1959-1964. The episodes, many of which were penned by Rod Serling himself, are written in different genres, including fantasy, science fiction, and psychological drama, often concluding with an unexpected twist and, frequently, a moral. Serling presents his characters with uniquely challenging situations, compelling them to make difficult – and sometimes impossible --decisions, finally forcing the audience to look at life in a different way. In the end, we are left with a profound question: what would we do in the same situation?

The critically acclaimed series introduced its audience to common science fiction and fantasy. The original series ran on CBS for five seasons, 1959-1964. The series enjoyed critical acclaim during its run, eventually leading to a feature film, radio series, comic book, magazine and various other spin-offs spanning five decades. It is our pleasure to present four episodes from this iconic series – all penned by Rod Serling himself.

Who's WhoGeorge Roegler My current career as a paleofo-rensic archeologist has prepared me well for the characters I play in these episodes. Although my

“little black bag” contains equip-ment very different from that of

a physician, (no need for stethoscope, sphygmo-manometer, or lifesaving medication!), people do occasionally call me “Doctor”. Although, un-like Mr. Garrity, I make no claim of being able to resurrect the dead, I have dug up a few fossilized femurs. And, finally, my job has required me to ride on the New Haven Line, and I have actual-ly seen (and heard!) a Conductor. So, if any of this were true, these characters would be easier to “be” than the many others I’ve done with my friends in The JFed Players over the years. In any case, I’m delighted to be a part of it!

Michael DiRosaThe Twilight Zone, another feather in JFeds cap. This is a very unique production and Michael is proud to be part of it. He was last seen in Curtains as Oscar Shapiro; his previous

productions and roles include: Twelve Angry Jurors as Juror Eleven, Once Upon A Mattress as King Sextimus, Lord Dudley in Play On!, Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees, the Chef in Don’t Drink The Water, Ernie Cusack in Rumors, and Kolenkov in You Can’t Take It With You. After many roles in films and a part on “Days of Our Lives,” he still prefers the stage. His years of stage work have been his passion and once again thanks The JFed Players, his friends and family, for letting him sharpen his craft. Break A Leg Everyone.

Len Vandegrift Len is very excited to share the stage with his family. He has appeared in numerous proo-ductions with the JFed, includ-ing The Pajama Game, You Can’t Take it With You (Ed),

Mame (Older Patrick), In the Beginning (Avi), Don’t Drink the Water (Axel), and Once Upon a Mattress (Sir Harry). Len has also appeared in La Traviata for Opera Pasadena, Dial M for Murder with Sierra Madre Playhouse, Footloose

(Principal Clarke) at Covina Center for the Performing Arts and in Big Fish (Doc/General) and Shrek (Papa Bear, King, Guard) with Valverde Stage Productions Inc.

Neil Brown Neil is a veteran of all The JFed Players theatre produc-tions, having played Bellomy in The Fantastiks, the Fireman in Working, Mr. Paul Sycamore in You Can’t Take it With You,

Sid Sorokin in The Pajama Game, M. Lindsay Woolsey in Mame, Ben in In the Beginning, Kilroy in Don’t Drink the Water, Van Buren in Damn Yankees, Billy/‘Stephen Sellers’ in Play On!, the Minstrel in Once Upon a Mattress, Juror Twelve in Twelve Angry Jurors and Lt. Frank Cioffi in Curtains. He also co-directed Neil Simon’s Rumors with this talented company.

Earl TurnerEarl graduated from Newtown High School in Queens, New York City (as did Zoe Saldana and Gene Simmons) and is presently working on a screen-play based on his alma mater.

“Hurricane” Earl has performed stand-up comedy in shows hosted by Rick Dees and Tim Conway Jr., and has appeared as Lenny Ganz (Rumors). The Sultan of Bashir (Don’t Drink The Water), Saul/‘Dr. Rex Forbes’ (Play On!), Juror Two (Twelve Angry Jurors) and Saul Bernstein (Curtains) with The JFed Players. He loves teaching Writing, Comedy/Acting and English in Arcadia.

Jane Ryan HoFormer WCUSD third grade teacher, Jane Ryan Ho, is de-lighted to make the acquain-tance of The JFed Players and a new wonderful community of talented fellow actors, directors,

and crew! Treading the boards after a 15 year hiatus from community theatre is the perfect antidote to post retirement doldrums. Hope you enjoy the show as much as she did rehearsing this project in the fifth dimension for your con-sideration and entertainment.

Who's WhoTina Quick-SnedakerPerforming is a hobby for Tina, having performed in many plays and community theater musi-cals including The JFed Players’ productions of Curtains, Once Upon a Mattress, Damn

Yankees, In the Beginning, Rumors, Mame, You Can’t Take it with You, and The Pajama Game. In her real life Tina is a public school teacher, wife and mother of two.

Patricia BuninAfter years of running lines with husband, George Roegler, Patricia decided to step on stage with him, making her debut with The JFed Players in Play On! as the zany playwright,

Phyllis. She followed that with Righteous in dual roles as waitress and secretary, performed at The Pasadena Playhouse’s Carrie Hamilton Theater. She loves being a part of The JFed Players and is excited to appear with George in two episodes of Twilight Zone: “The Shelter” as the doctor’s wife, Grace; and “Mr. Garrity and the Graves” as Mrs. Douglas. Patricia is a writer and columnist. Her Senior Moments is published Sundays, print and online in eleven Southern California newspapers.

Jenna Vandegrift Jenna is excited to be on stage with the whole family again. The last Vandegrift appearance was in Shrek, in which Jenna played the Captain of the Guards. Other JFed stage credits include

The Pajama Game, You Can’t Take it With You (Alice), Mame (Gooch), and Don’t Drink the Water (Susan). Aside from acting, Jenna has also directed and choreographed In the Beginning Once Upon a Mattress, Us and Them, Winnie the Pooh, and various other productions on her middle school campus. She attended LACHSA, receiving the Directing Scholarship, and went on to receive her BA from The George Washington University with a degree in Theatre.

Phyllis SchissellPhyllis is a proud charter mem-ber of The JFed Players since its first production... Working. She has appeared in Curtains, Twelve Angry Jurors, which she considers a high point in her

acting experience, Once Upon a Mattress, Play On!, Damn Yankees, In the Beginning, Pajama Game, Rumors, Mame, Don’t Drink the Water, and was stage manager for You Can’t Take it With You. At PJTC, she performed in Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Fiddler on the Roof and The Music Man. She has loved being able to stretch to sing and dance as well as act. The JFed Players is an amazing ensemble of tal-ented, dedicated people who love what they do and support one another like a family. She feels privileged to be part of this wonderful group.

Karen Hochman BrownMs. Hochman Brown is a charter member of The JFed Players, hav-ing appeared in nine of its produc-tions, most recently as Carmen in Curtains. Other appearances with The JFed Players include: Twelve

Angry Jurors (Foreman), Damn Yankees (Sister Miller), Play On! (Polly/‘Lady Margaret’), Woody Allen’s Don’t Drink the Water (Marion Hollander), You Can’t Take It With You, Mame (Vera Charles), In The Beginning (Mavis) and The Pajama Game (Mae). She enjoys the friends she has made through theater and doubly cherishes the time she gets to spend with her husband and fellow thespian, Neil. When not on stage, she is a visual artist working with kaleidoscopic photographic imagery.

Thomas Vandegrift Even though he is only six years old, this is Thomas’ 6th produc-tion. His past credits include the Jester’s Assistant in Once Upon a Mattress, a dwarf in Shrek, a flower for In the Beginning, a

sheep in Winnie the Pooh, and numerous roles in Time Travelers, a Broadway Review. He is thrilled to share the stage with his family. When Thomas is not on stage, he is dancing at Valverde School of Performing Arts or playing on the soccer field.

Who's WhoScarlet Vandegrift Age nine, Scarlet is happy to be joining her family on stage again. Scarlet is not a stranger to the stage, but is excited to take on more speaking roles. Her credits include: Kaa the Snake

in Jungle Book Jr., a zebra in The Jungle Book Jr., a flower for In the Beginning, various roles in Time Travelers, a Broadway Review, a sheep and Velvet in Winnie the Pooh, and an orphan in Annie Jr. When Scarlet is not on stage, she is dancing at the Valverde School of Performing Arts or learning lots about history.

Jacob BashJacob is excited to be a part of The Twilight Zone and this amaz-ing team. This is his third show with The JFed Players after por-traying Juror Seven in Twelve Angry Jurors and Daryl Grady

in Curtains. Other previous credits include Hannibal in The Curious Savage and Trufaldino in Servant Of Two Masters at Glendora High School. He is looking forward to a great show and being involved in many more productions.

John Carlton John is a veteran of many of The JFed Players productions, each of which has been a unique, challenging and enjoyable expe-rience. This is his third opportu-nity to work back stage, which

he has enjoyed immensely. Many thanks to The JFed Players, which has become a wonderful group of talented artists and friends.

Norm GoldAlthough family and work commitments have precluded my appearing on-stage in this fall’s production, I am proud to offer my pre-recorded voice to the show! To the cast and

crew–break a leg! I miss you all! To those of you watching the show–thanks for coming and for your support–I hope you enjoy the show! You are in good hands!

Lori McKenna This production marks Lori’s sec-ond time as Assistant Director and first time as Costume madam. She also plays a very different madam in “Mr. Garrity and the Graves.” Her favorite on stage credits in-

clude: Georgia Hendericks in Curtains, Juror Four in Twelve Angry Jurors, Cassie Cooper in Rumors, Lydia in In the Beginning, and Violet/‘Diana Lassiter’ in Play On!, Dora in Righteous, a staged reading at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at the Pasadena Playhouse – a unique opportunity for The JFed Players. Lori enjoys being part of this fun and talented group of actors – fellow thespians and good friends – whether it be on the stage or not.

Thomas KeenanThomas fell in love with the the-ater during his freshman year at Alhambra High School. Guided by his favorite teacher, Ms. Rachel Fornari, and her family, the Snows, he went from mere dab-

bling in improvisational fun with Comedy Sportz, the High School League to a more dedicated focus to true theatrical arts. When he’s not scaring folks out of their wits in the AHS Haunted House, help-ing out at the local Mosaic Lizard Theatre, or play-ing video games, he turns his eyes to the boards. His first role, Cecil in The Odd Couple, quickly lead to many others: the Dentist Orin Scrivello in Little Shop of Horrors, Charles in Blithe Spirit, Bill in Kiss Me, Kate, and his current role, Juror #12 in 12 Angry Jurors, an Adaption.

Elizabeth Snedaker This is Elizabeth Snedaker’s (aka Lizzy) fifth production with the JFed Players including: Curtains, Mame, In the Beginning, and Once Upon a Mattress. Other non-JFed Player roles include Broadway

Live and Into the Woods Jr. in Covina, and Seussical, the Musical, Big River, and Oliver with MET 2. She also performs in and directs productions at Northview High School, where she is a senior.

Who's WhoSusan Cohen-RooksSince the creation of the Federation’s Cultural Arts Pro-gram, I have had the honor and pleasure of working with a group of terrific, talented people as we became The JFed

Players. Over the years I have played many parts. From being in the ensemble to one of the leads onstage and doing make-up, costumes and assis-tant directing behind the scenes, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in a fun and sup-portive environment. I cannot wait to see what we achieve in the years to come.

Mary GatterMary has appeared with The JFed Players in The Music Man, Pajama Game, Mame, In the Beginning, Dame Yankees, Twelve Angry Jurors and Curtains. She has appeared with

other community theatre groups in Boston and Connecticut and has enjoyed being the Assistant Director on several JFed productions. Off stage she is a retired gynecologist and enjoys singing with her Sweet Adeline’s group: The Verdugo Hills Chorus. She would like to thank the casts of “Shelter” and “Willoughby” for being such fun to work with, and her Assistant Directors Lori and Jacob for all their hard work.

Joanne KarrJoanne Karr is a retired high school theatre director who now works at the University of La Verne, supervising student teacher candidates. She spent twenty years teaching at various

schools in Los Angeles and then fifteen years at Walnut High School. Joanne is a two-time Fulbright Exchange teacher to the UK and a member of the Director’s Guild of America. She was the recipient of various education awards and fellowships throughout her career, and is now serving on boards for several non-profit groups. Her work with The JFed Players includes directing Play On!, appearing in Twelve Angry Jurors, and providing technical assistance for several other shows. She is a member of The JFed Players Steering Committee.

Lew SnowLew is always looking around corners to check if Rod Serling might be hiding there. He is honored to make his solo di-rectorial debut at the helm of Mr. Garrity and the Graves. Lew

was Associate Director for our spring musical, Curtains, and Assistant Director for last fall’s play, Twelve Angry Jurors. His JFed Players acting/tech roles include Twelve Angry Jurors, Once Upon a Mattress, Play On!, Damn Yankees, In the Beginning, and The Music Man. A sub-stitute teacher in the Alhambra Unified School District, Lew is the drama poppa at Alhambra High School (daughter Rachel is the Theater Arts Director), assisting with the upcoming productions of Twelve Angry Jurors (Nov. 16-18) and Annie (in April), as well as serving on the board of directors of the non-profit AHS Theater Boosters.

Shlomo SoferShlomo has been involved with The JFed Players working behind the scenes in various jobs. In previous musicals he has run spotlights and worked as a stagehand backstage. For

the JFed production of Damn Yankees he was Master Set Builder.

Edeena GordonEdeena has been involved in ev-ery production of the JFed play-ers since their founding in 2011. In all the musicals, she has been in the ensemble along with tak-ing on specific supporting char-

acters. Her acting roles were a Cubical Worker for Working, Ptapateepa In the Beginning, Stage Manager in Mame, Lady Rowena in Once Upon a Mattress, Mona for Curtains. Her non-acting support has been coordinating lights for You Can’t Take It With You, Assistant Stage Manager for Rumor, coordinated sound for Don’t Drink the Water, lights and sound for Damn Yankees, Montaigne and Play On!. For the Twilight Zone she is support staff, providing set and prop con-struction along with lights and sound support.

Who's WhoBrian GordonThis is Brian’s second venture into prop design and construc-tion, his first was Curtains. He worked stage crew for Once Upon A Mattress, and has been a involved with many of The

JFed Players productions as an usher, conces-sions, and anywhere needed in a non-acting role. In addition, since 2006, Brian volunteers as a mentor for his local high school FIRST Robotics team 589. He has been a passionate amateur woodworker for many years.

Vicki SnowVicki has been part of The JFed Players for a number of years. This year she returns to perform in two of the Twilight Zone Episodes after taking on the costumer role in last year’s

musical. She is also doing the costuming for “Mr. Garrity and The Graves,” which her husband, Lew Snow, is directing. Costuming has become a passion and she helps her daughter, Rachel Snow (the drama teacher at Alhambra High School), with her shows. They go costume hunting often and Vicki works hard to bring a feeling of au-thenticity to the stage.

Bill Kueppers Bill has enjoyed working on theatrical productions since the seventh grade! He has most re-cently been involved in running the sound for several local cho-ruses and school performances.

He is retired from long career in network, com-puter and scientific instrumentation, and is a proud member of the Audio Engineering Society.

Evan Primeau Evan is a sophomore at Arcadia high school and is fifteen years old. This will be his first show with The JFed Players and his second blackbox play as a lighting designer.

Jason MossJason has dedicated his life to working within the Jewish community helping people strengthen their connection to their Jewish identity. He is ex-cited that this show, as well as

other cultural arts programs, is one more way to let people connect with the Jewish community.
