Commander Pear will help you remember imperative sentences! Commander Pear gives commands just like imperative sentences. Commands include orders, advice, and instructions. Sometimes Commander Pear is in a bad mood and can be quite rude. Other times he is in a good mood and he can be polite. Commander Pear may leave the subject of the sentence out because he is talking only to you!

When commander Pear is in a good mood, he will be nice and use words like please.

“Please pass the mash potatoes.”

But when commander Pear is grumpy, watch out! He will tell you what to do!

Ms. Clair Bear is a teacher and she will help you remember declarative sentences! Ms. Clair Bear teaches her class facts, opinions and makes arguments just like declarative sentences. The declarative sentence is the most common type of sentence. They do not require any actions. Declarative sentences end in a period.

When you say exclamatory, can you hear the word “clam” in the middle of the word? When you hear the word “clam” in exclamatory, it will help you remember the meaning of exclamatory sentences.

Sam the clam will help you to remember exclamatory sentences! Imagine that the dot at the bottom of all exclamation points is a clam, like in the picture to the left. Exclamatory sentences are just like declarative sentences but they express strong emotion. Exclamatory sentences all end with an exclamation point.

Rog the frog will help you remember interrogative sentences! Imagine that Rog the frog has a terrible memory. He is always asking questions. Like Rog the Frog, interrogative sentences ask questions. These types of sentences always end in a question mark.
