book series are usually that I want to see what happens to the world and the people in the

books, and because I like the authors style or the themes that they follow.

One more recent reading that really stands out is Anathem by Neal Stephenson. This is

a lengthy book (nearly one thousand pages). It is a book of speculative fiction that explores

many scientific themes and provides social commentary. One interesting theme has scholars

segregated from the rest of society. I recently reread Anathem for a second time. It is good to

go back and reread stories, because as a person you have changed. You will experience the

story from a different viewpoint, and interpret the meaning of the text differently.

The most extensive writing project I have ever worked on was my Graduation Project in

high school. The project was research-based, and I worked on it during both junior and senior

years. It consisted of a project proposal, an outline, several drafts, a final draft, a timeline, a

pamphlet, a letter to a public official (Kay Hagan), a letter to the presentation board, and a

PowerPoint presentation. Since I knew I was going to spend so much of my time working on

this project, the topic had to be one in which I had a deep interest. The topic I chose was

network neutrality. Most succinctly, network neutrality means no discrimination against

Internet traffic based on its contents, ownership, or destination. I picked this topic because it is

very relevant to my life. Being a geek and a gamer, I just hadto do something computer-

related. The other reason I was drawn to this topic was my personal feelings about censorship

and the human right of free speech.

Upon reflection, I am quite proud of the work I accomplished on this project. It took an

enormous amount of work over many months. I learned a lot from putting together the

different components of the project. After all the work, I was glad it was appreciated so highly,

and I got an A on the project.

Reflecting on the books I have read in the past brought the experience of reading them

back to me. I remembered what I enjoyed about them and what made them worthwhile to me.

Going back to discuss my graduation project, I recalled the amount of work involved, as well as

the pride in completing such a complex endeavor.
