After much prayer and consideration Hillcrest will be changing its Sunday Worship start time to 10:00 a.m. The reason for this is we feel we can reach more people with a later start time. The traditional hour for worship in our nation is 10:00 a.m. with anything earlier than 10:00 a.m. considered an early service. While many prefer the early start time we feel the majority prefer the more traditional time. It is our hope that more will be able to connect for corporate worship at this time. This earlier time also allows the opportunity for people connect for encouragement, learning and care in small settings at the church prior to the service. Please feel free to connect early for coffee, fellowship and learning prior to the service. The building is open for gathering at 9:00 a.m. and the doors to the sanctuary will be open at 9:45 a.m. for personal prayer, enjoying pre-worship music and preparing your hearts to connect with God. Carols! One of the hallmarks of the Christmas season around the world is the playing and singing of holiday hymns and timeless Christmas Carols. Songs such as Away in the Manger, Silent Night, Joy to the World and my favorite Hark, the Herald Angles Sing all take us to the heart of the message of Christmas…God’s love for us. Throughout December we will not only sing these and other great Christmas carols but we will also receive a Christmas message each Sunday that is rooted in scripture and celebrated in these timeless songs. I invite you to join us on Sunday, November 30 th at 10:00 a.m. as we kick-off this series here at Hillcrest. Thanksgiving! Here is a riddle…parents long for it, even wait for it and celebrate it when it comes. The answer is a “Thank you!” God loves it when we give thanks. The bible says, “Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” 1 Chronicles 16:8 Starting on November 9 th Hillcrest will have a “Thank Tree” in its lobby for you to express your thanks unto the Lord. Upcoming Events: Sunday, November 30, 11:30a.m. annual

“Hanging of the Greens”! Come and join us following the morning worship service. We will unpack the Christmas decoration closet, distrib-ute boxes to their designated rooms, have an awesome “pot luck” lunch and then decorate. You may even hear a few Christmas carols.

Saturday, December 6, at 3 :30 p.m. , our annual “All Adult Christmas Party” at Ann

& Tony’s Restaurant in West Jefferson.! Plan to arrive at Ann & Tony’s a few minutes before 3:30 p.m. to be seated and place your dinner order. Each person pays for his or her dinner at that time. After dinner we head back to HBC for dessert and “gift exchange”. If you wish to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a $5 wrapped gift that is appropriate for a man or women. If your gift is strictly for a “guy” or “girl” please mark it so. We always have such fun with this “exchange” and we hope you can join us! Even though we do not need to “pre-pay” we do need a “head count”, so sign up soon! Contact Diana Ammon or Susan Schultz for details or to sign up. If you don’t want to go to dinner you can join us for dessert and gift exchange or just dessert.

Love Auction News

by Cathy Wright

The countdown is on… just 3 weeks away until the annual Love Auction. On Tuesday, November 25, the Fellowship Hall will be filled with the scent of homemade baked goods and decorated with holiday items, gift baskets, etc. which will be raffled or auctioned. This year the Hillcrest women’s group have been busy working on a quilt which will go to some lucky winner in a live auction. This quilt commemorates the history of Hillcrest and was made to honor Chris Baker, an avid quilter and supporter of the Love Auction. All raffle items, baked goods and other contributions need to be at the church by Tuesday at 5 pm. Proceeds of the Love Auction are divided between the American Baptist Love Gift which supports national and international mission projects and our local outreach programs such as school supplies for neighborhood children, meals for the West Side Free Store, missionaries Chuck and Ruth Fox, etc.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

5:30 p.m. Registration – Receive your silent auction number

5:30 p.m. Dinner Served – hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, popcorn at affordable prices

6:00 p.m. Silent Auction Bidding Begins; purchase raffle tickets and submit bids

6:45 p.m. Bidding and raffle sales end.

7:00 p.m. Winners Announced for the silent auction and raffles

If you have questions or would like to donate any items, please contact Cathy Wright.

New Year’s Eve at HBC What better way to usher out 2014 than a family

game and activity evening? Bring the family and

friends to an evening of euchre, bingo, board

games and children activities. This will be on

December 31 from 6 pm – 10 pm. Bring your

favorite appetizer or dessert to munch on during

the evening. Mark your calendar now so you

don’t miss it. More details later. If you would

The annual Christmas Cookie exchange will take place on Saturday, December 13th at 9:30 a.m. here at HBC. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall at the end of this month for anyone that would like to participate. WE ARE THANKFUL here at HBC

in the Pioneer Clubs ministries. What a blessing to come every Wednesday evening to learn more about God’s promises in a safe and FUN environment. Thank you to all of the leaders and helpers that have dedicated time and resources to make Pioneer Clubs so great for so many young children. Also, thank you for the students and their families for committing to be a part of this program each week. We realize that everyone is so busy and many things demand your time, what an honor to know that you choose to come to HBC weekly to meet with us. We are truly blessed! We hope that you find many things to be thankful for as you go into this next season of Thanksgiving and that God continues to bless you in your journey to know Him more.

Operation Christmas Child HBC will be supporting the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministry this year. We are asking for donations to fill boxes and/or families to bring completed shoeboxes to send over seas to children that don’t otherwise receive Christmas gifts. Complete details and information about what can be packed in the boxes are available on the welcome center table in the church foyer. Pioneer Club classes will be packing 2 boxes per club to their corresponding ages. For example, the Skippers club will pack 1 boy and 1 girl box for children ages 2 to 5. Our deadline for the clubs to finish their boxes is Wednesday, November 12th. However, if you choose to pack a box on your own please have it to church by Sunday, November 16th as we will have a special prayer for the boxes before they are delivered to a central processing area for shipment. More details will go home with the students so be watching on how you can help! Thank you!

All Club Party of Thanks On Wednesday, November 19th, we will gather for our all club party of thanks. Students should first meet in their classrooms so the fellowship hall can be cleaned up from dinner and then we will come down for a special party. Each group will have a chance to make a harvest craft, play a game, have a snack and contribute to a special mission project. We will be collecting travel size toiletry items to give to the Ronald McDonald House at our very own Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The toiletry items are much appreciated by the many families that use their facilities while staying with a child to endure various long/short term hospital visits. Items can include toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, soap/body wash, lotion, Kleenex, hand sanitizer…..all travel size please. Any parent interested in volunteering to help with the party, please see Stacy Lee as we can definitely use the extra help-ing hands!

All Church “Carol IN your PJ’s” Polar Express Night ALL Aboard! We are venturing into a night of Polar Express fun. On Wednesday, December 17th we invite EVERYONE to join us for a fun night of Christmas Caroling up in the church sanctuary. Just like the Polar Express….you are invited to wear your pajamas (appropriate ones please!) as we join in singing Christmas Carols. Of course there will also be Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. Invite your friends and family for a fun night you won’t want to miss. Did I mention this is for EVERY ONE of all ages? Hope to see

you there!
