Worship ServicesMay 22, 20168:30 and 11 a.m.

6:30 p.m.

Welcome

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God

in memory of Mary and Lucius Bultman.

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available in the Welcome Center. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms before the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room located beside Nursery 1, and the Geneva Room is designated as a Cry Room for parents with fussy children, equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew’s Hall.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

†The Call to Worship ................................................................................Psalm 96:8-9

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations,

Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; Bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; Tremble before him, all the earth.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

(Text for meditation)On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,The emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and bestFor a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,Till my trophies at last I lay down;I will cling to the old rugged crossAnd exchange it some day for a crown!

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,Has a wondrous attraction for me;For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above To bear it to dark Calvary.

†The Confession of Faith .....................................The Westminster Shorter Catechism

Q. 45. Which is the first commandment?

The first commandment is: You shall have no other gods before me.

Q. 46. What is required in the first commandment?

The first commandment requires us to know and acknowledge God to be the only true God and our God; and to worship and glorify him accordingly.

Q. 47. What is forbidden in the first commandment?

The first commandment forbids the denial of, or failure to worship and glorify, the true God as God and our God and it forbids giving that worship and glory to any other which is due to God alone.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ................................................ from Zephaniah 3Sing, O Daughter of Zion, shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord your God is with you and he rejoices over you with singing.

God of everlasting love, we confess that we have been unfaithful to our covenant with you and with one another. We have worshiped other gods: money, power, greed, and convenience. We have served our own self-interest instead of serving only you and your people. We have not loved our neighbor as you have commanded, nor have we rightly loved ourselves. Forgive us, gracious God, and bring us back into the fullness of our covenant with you and one another. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

(Text for meditation)Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,Naught be all else to me save that thou art;Thou my best thought by day or by night,Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Riches I heed not nor man’s empty praise,Thou mine inheritance now and always;Thou my great Father and I thy true son,Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,Still be my vision, O Ruler of all!

Offering

Offertory—Blest Is the Man (Psalm 32) ................................................Watts, Wilbur

Text: Isaac Watts, 1719, Blest is the Man (Psalm 32) | Tune: DISTRESS, 1835, adapted Gregory Wilbur, 2008 | © 2010 Ligonier Ministries

Blest is the man, forever blest, Whose guilt is pardoned by his God, Whose sins with sorrow are confessed And covered with his Savior’s blood.

Blest is the man to whom the Lord Imputes not his iniquities; He pleads no merit of reward And not on works but grace relies.

From guile his heart and lips are free; His humble joy, his holy fear, With deep repentance well agree And join to prove his faith sincere.

How glorious is that righteousness That hides and cancels all his sins, While bright the evidence of grace Thro’ all his life appears and shines!
