Welcome

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

The King’s Brass Tim Zimmerman, director

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available outside of St. Andrew’s Hall. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms before the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 109) located in the wing behind the sanctuary and to the left, and the Geneva Room is designated as a Cry Room for parents with fussy children, equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew’s Hall.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

Theme: Jesus Is Lord

The Prelude—Great Is Thy Faithfulness ............................................... arr. Diane Bish

†The Call to Worship .............................................................................. from Isaiah 43But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Lift thine eyes to the mountains, whence cometh help;Thy help cometh from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He hath said, thy foot shall not be moved;Thy Keeper will never slumber!

*Doxology ......................................................................................... Old Hundredth

Q. What do the Scriptures say concerning Christ, who being eternally God, became man for us? A. Though Jesus was in the form of God, he did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ................................................... Ephesians 1:7-8In Jesus Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Almighty, eternal God and Father, we confess and acknowledge that we were conceived and born in sin, and are therefore inclined to all evil and slow to all good, that we transgress thy holy commandments without ceasing, and ever more corrupt ourselves. But we are sorry for the same, and seek thy grace and help. Please have mercy upon us, most gracious and merciful God and Father, through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ. Grant to us and increase in us thy Holy Spirit, that we may recognize our sin and unrighteousness from the bottom of our hearts, attain true repentance and sorrow for them, die to them wholly, and please thee entirely by a new and godly life. Amen. from Martin Bucer’s Strasburg Liturgy (1539)

*‡The PeaceThe peace of the Lord be with you always.

And also with you.

Women’s Choir

Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away;To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away!

I’ll fly away, O glory; when I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away!

When the shadows of this life have gone, I’ll fly away;Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I’ll fly away.

Just a few more weary days and then, I’ll fly away;To a land where joys shall never end, I’ll fly away!

The Shorter Catechism, Question 18:

Q. What is sinful about man’s fallen condition?

A. The sinfulness of that fallen condition is twofold. First, in what is commonly called original sin, there is the guilt of Adam’s first sin with its lack of original righteousness and the corruption of his whole nature. Second are all the specific acts of disobedience that come from original sin.
