THE WORSHIP OF GOD

- All are welcome here - We want to get to know you -

Please sign the Attendance Pads on the Tables near the Entrance

We ask that guests and first-time visitors provide an email address.

Members and regular attendees may check the appropriate box.

The Centering Bell - Lighting of the Light - The Life of LOCC

L: This is a new day the Lord is making P: Let us worship God!

Gathering On Eagle’s Wings (Psalm 91) Michael Joncas all are invited to sing the refrain each time it occurs

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, Who abide in His shadow for life; Say to the Lord: “My Refuge, my Rock in whom I trust!” Refrain ALL

The snare of the fowler will never capture you; And famine will bring you no fear; Under His wings your refuge; His faithfulness your Shield. Refrain ALL

For to God’s angels, God’s given a command To guard you in all of your ways; Upon their hands they will bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. Refrain ALL

*Call to Worship based on Isaiah 40:21-31

L: Do you not know? Have you not heard? It has been announced to you from the beginning. God lives in the horizon and makes its inhabitants like locusts; Dignitaries are made useless and judges become nothing. God spreads the sky like a curtain; a tent for dwelling

P: We look up at the sky and wonder. We fear our days are hidden from the Lord; That our struggles are ignored. L: Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God; Creator of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach. He gives power to the tired, and revives the exhausted.

ALL: Our hope is in the Lord who renews our strength. We will be raised up on wings like eagles. We will run and not be tired. We will walk and not be weary. Thanks be to God!

*Hymn Come and Find the Quiet Center Shirley Murray

Gospel Lesson Mark 1:29-39 Common English Bible 29 After leaving the synagogue, Jesus, James, and John went home with Simon and Andrew.

30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed, sick with a fever, and they told Jesus about her at once.

31 He went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

32 That evening, at sunset, people brought to Jesus those who were sick or demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered near the door.

34 He healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases, and he threw out many demons. But he didn’t let the demons speak, because they recognized him.

35 Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer.

36 Simon and those with him tracked him down.

37 When they found him, they told him, “Everyone’s looking for you!”

38 He replied, “Let’s head in the other direction, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.”

39 He traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and throwing out demons.

L: The Word of God for the people of God. P: Thanks be to God!

Sermon God Will Raise Us Up David W. Key, Sr.

Response You Raise Me Up Løveland/Graham

When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary; When troubles come and my heart burdened be;

Then I am still and wait here in the silence, Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;

I am strong when I am on your shoulders; You raise me up to more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger; Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;

But when you come and I am filled with wonder, Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

The Giving of Gifts

*The Presentation and Blessing of our Gifts

L: We give thanks for all that God has given us. P: May God bless all that we offer: our prayers, our presence, our gifts, and our service.

*Passing of the Peace L: The Lord be with you! P: And also with you! Greet one another with signs of peace.

*Song of Fellowship Give Thanks Don Moen

Prayers of the People

Silent Prayer - Pastoral Prayer - Lord’s Prayer

Response He Lifted Me Charles Gabriel

Solo: In loving kindness Jesus came, my soul in mercy to reclaim; And from the depths of night and shame, through grace He lifted me. Refrain ALL

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, And the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

3

Solo: Now on a higher plane I dwell; And in my soul I know ‘tis well.

Though how or why I cannot tell; I know He lifted me.

Refrain ALL
