I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditures excludes them. – C.S. Lewis
We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give. – Winston Churchill
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost. – Ignatius of Loyola

It’s an exciting time to be at Second Baptist Church. There is an energy
here that is not always easy to describe. God is doing some wonderful things in
us and through us, and we don’t want to be merely passive participants in that.
I am grateful for the generosity that has brought us this far. So many of you
have chosen to allow God’s generosity to flow through you over the past 24
months. You have given of your time, your talents, and your resources in ways
that have enhanced our church’s ability to pursue the dream of God together.
I am grateful for the mark you continue to allow God to make upon you, our
city, our region and our world through the spiritual practice of generosity.
Jesus taught us to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and God’s will to be done
on earth as it is in heaven. There are many ways to rephrase that prayer in
modern language, but one of my favorite ways goes like this: God, may all of
your dreams for us come true.
Over the next few weeks, we want to challenge you to prayerfully consider how
God is calling you to participate in the big dream. Not only is this challenge
about going on a journey with God that will impact the lives of people in our
community for years to come, but it’s also about God changing our lives. This is
about becoming a catalyst for God’s Kingdom.
Oh, and our cows are back! Kasey + Moe are here to keep
us from taking ourselves too seriously and to keep all the
baggage we attach to “giving” from bogging us down. Just
think of them as a bonus, a GIFT, they are our comedic relief.
In fact, the cows themselves are truly symbols of generosity.
2BC’s very own Bob Holt, the creator and animator behind
Hallmark’s famous Hoops and Yoyo characters, generously
created these cows just for the 2BC “Cattle-List” initiative.
Bob’s hours of generous creativity and animation can truly
be an inspiration to us all. Welcome back Kasey + Moe.

Getting ConnectedEach Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), our Connections Team is waiting to help you get “connected.” This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the days’ activities and schedule.
