DearBrothersandSistersinChrist,
ThisLentenseasonhasbeenmarkedbysomewonderfuleventsatSt.John’s.We
havecontinuedourweeklyFridayStationsoftheCrossandourWednesdayeveningEucharistandsupper.St.John’salsohostedaverymovingDiocesan24-HourPrayerVigil.Iamverygratefultoallwhoparticipated,andespeciallytoRonwhosemusicaddedsomuchtotheservices.
AswecontinuewithHolyWeekthisyear,wehaveanumberofmeaningfuladditionstoourworship.Our10:00amPalmSundayworshipwillbeginintheparkinglotofFirstBaptistChurchonStateStreet.Fromthere,membersofFirstBaptist,FirstMethodist,SheepfoldMinistries,andSt.John’swillprocessdownStateStreetandIrvineAvenue.Anyonewhodoesnotwishtoprocessorcan’twalkthatfarisinvitedtolineupalongIrvineAvenueoutsideofthechurchtowavepalmbranchesasthedonkey-ledprocessionwalksby.Aftertheprocession,wewillreturntothesanctuaryfortherestofourPalmSundayservice.
WewillholdourMaundyThursdayandGoodFridayservicesat7:30pm,withStationsoftheCrossonGoodFridayat12:05.
Thisyear,BishopSeanRowewillbejoiningusfortheEasterVigilonSaturdayat8:00pm.St.John’sandothercongregationsin
Saying Thank YouAsourNaturalChurchDevelopmentteamfocused
onlovingrelationships,oneareawelookedatwashowweshowappreciationasachurch.
OnewaywearehopingtodoabetterjobwithgratitudeiswithaThankYoubox.Thisbox,whichwillbehousedinthelounge,isaplacethatanyoneinthechurchcansay“thankyou”tosomeoneelseforsomethingtheyhavedone.Anyonewhosenameissubmittedwillreceiveathankyounotefromthechurchfortheirefforts.
Wewillalsobeselectinga“PersonoftheMonth”fromthoseentered,asawaytorecognizetheirefforts.Wehavesomanypeoplewhocontributesomuchtoourlifeasaparishthatwewanttoshowourappreciation.

TheoldsayingthatwarnedMarchmaygooutlikeaLionsureseemedtoholdtruethisyear.Andyet,withthelengtheningdaylight,
thereassuringstirringofsunrisebirdsongsandsproutingofearlyflowersmarkstheendingofLentandthewarmingembraceofEaster.JusttheothermorningIwasinspectingourWinterwornfirepit,planningonshovelingouttheoldashesfromlastyeartoreadyforanewseason,whenapairofBlueHeronsleapedfromthepondedgeintothesunrise.Soon,Ithought,soonitwillbetimetogatherfriendstogetherandlitethefirepitagain.
Inaway,IhopetheseasonofLenthasgivenyouachancetoclearawayyouroldashesandmakereadyforHolyWeekandEaster. IencourageyoutoplanonattendingtheEasterVigilandwitnessthenewlyblessedfireandTheLightingofthePaschalCandle.Whatbetterwaytoreset,recommitandrenewyourcommitmenttotherisenLordinourEpiscopalChurchfamily?
