Brad Pitt is the only name on the poster indicating that the movie revolves around him and perhaps he may be the main protagonist or antagonist. The fact that only his name is on the poster also indicates how well known he is so he appeals to the audience as he does many action movies. He would also attract a female audience as he is adored by many females who support him and his movies. Thus the movie appeals to both genders. Establishing aerial shot – shows what is going on, the location and it also sets the setting in France and the genre of the movie to be dystopia end of the world/apocalypse. Poster – Shrieks out dystopia from the fire and smoke, the massive crowd of people dressed in black from top to bottom and iconic buildings being burnt down and through the use of colours. Colours – orange, black, red – Danger, nothing positive about it dark gloomy mood which suggests the genre of the movie to be dystopia – the end of the world this could also be interpreted as the end of the world through the title of the movie and the font colour. The ’Z’ is placed behind ‘World War’ and is bigger to attract the audiences attention as the ‘Z’ is red in contract to ‘World War’ which is in white. The ‘Z’ could also be interpreted as ‘Z’ for zombies or last letter in alphabet so this really is the end of the world unlike other zombie movies which focus on just one place, mostly America.

Eiffel tower – targets people in France therefore they have a French audience which gives the movie a global appeal as in other European countries, the poster would include an Iconic building of the country burning.

Poster placement is important for this particular advertisement of the movie as this particular poster would be placed on a bus stop as takes more time to analyse it and understand its meaning as you are unaware of the zombies unless you look closer and see them falling from windows, on the rooftops. However this poster would be less effective if it was placed on roadside as people would drive past it and the zombies would just look like a crowd of people in the city watching the Eiffel tower burn down.

The world – whole world has been empowered by these black figures in the poster falling from windows indicating that they are not humans as they are violent and animal like due to their over excessive behaviour. This movie differs from similar zombie movies as World War Z does not show just one country coming to an end, but the world which most dystopian zombie movies fail to do e.g. they would only film in one country, usually America.

A contrast of colours are used, the red ‘Z’ stands out of the poster as it signifies blood, violence and death which indicates its genre of being an apocalyptic action, horror zombie movie. The red also stands out of the pile of zombies falling off a military helicopter indicating their hunger for blood.

The font used for the title of the movie is bold and has a lot of space between each letter, this is effective as the poster does not include and further text which makes the title stand out. This also shows the effect of using only the title as the title gives all the information which makes the image used very effective. This technique is unique and works very well to sell the movie to the audience.

Only one name is used as Brad Pitt is a well known actor. This also indicates that the movie is fairly based around him or that he will have a significant and main role in the movie.

The black on the white background works very well as it creates a silhouette which creates a mysterious effect as although they are falling out of a helicopter, the image appears to be going in slow motion which makes it look peaceful but at the same time disturbing as they are all on top of each other and trying to crawl on one another to get to the top.

Limited information is given such as the month and year of the release which is to be in the summer of 2013. This use of limited text is effective as it allows all the attention to go towards the detailed image.

The production company is placed in the bottom corner of the poster as the audience are more likely to go watch the movie if they know that a well known production company; in this case Plan B which is Brad Pitt’s production company. This increases the likelihood of more people going to watch it as if it was produced by a less well known company, the production of the movie would not be as great as not a lot of money would be invested into it.

The image is shocking and therefore intrigues the audience as they want to know what these figures are due to them falling out from the helicopter and forming a large pile.
