In 1917 food shortages caused by the loss of British shipping to German U-boats meant the British government banned the use of rice at weddings and the feeding of pigeons.
The most successful fighter pilot of the entire war was Germany’s Ace, Manfred von Richthofen ‘The Red Baron’ (1892-1918). He shot down 80 allied planes, more than any other World War One pilot.
