History and Development of Global Studies Degree

• Began as a Certificate Program• Morphed into an AA Program• Finally Developed as an AAS Program• Primary Goal was to Globalize the Curriculum

and Develop more Globally Literate Students• Most of the Courses Comprising the GS Degree

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Global Studies

Degree Competencies• Demonstrate an awareness of the interconnectedness of economic, cultural,

ecological, and political systems both locally and globally• Identify the impact of decisive ideas and world events both inside and outside the

Western context• Evaluate the existence of different cultural norms, values, and attitudes• Demonstrate a basic level of proficiency in a language other than English• Demonstrate knowledge of world geography• Demonstrate knowledge of current international affairs• Demonstrate an awareness of self as an individual member of a multicultural global

community• Identify social and cultural bias• Demonstrate an understanding of diverse communication styles within and between
