World of Darkness Hunter Campaign
Central Concept
A cult based in and around Boston, consisting mostly of edgy teenagers and other
similarly disillusioned people, is attempting to use a Necronomicon-esque book to draw
upon eldritch powers and summon an Old God (essentially an extremely powerful
abyssal demon) into the physical world, for reasons unknown. The goal of the hunters is
to investigate the cult, communicate with local hunter organizations, and prevent the
coming of an Old God.
Major Plot Points
Someone has stolen a copy of an Arabic book bound in human skin (The
Necronomicon) from Harvard's library
o Purpose of stealing unknown to players, but given its The Necronomicon,
it can't be good
o Can act as a reason for Null Mysteriis, Lucifuge, Malleus Malefecarum,
Long Night, and Loyalists of Thule people to show up
A janitor at Harvard is found dead, public story is a heart-attack, information not
released to public includes the fact that his body cavity was filled with a grey
residue, and his liver, heart, and intestines had been partially degraded and,
apparently, consumed
o Reality is that the janitor discovered some Harvard students performing a
ritual animal sacrifice, was going to report them, was used as a
sacrifice/incubator for "something" they pulled into reality
o Can act as a reason for Union, Task Force: VALKYRIE, Cheiron Group,
and Network Zero people to show up
Ashwood Abbey chapter at Harvard has its own reasons for being here
Players arrive
Investigation phase, can talk to Ashwood Abbey to get info on local students,
Null Mysteriis to hear from the academics, Union about the death of the janitor
and other strange happenings (hardware store provides a lot of knives that cultists
buy), can track known cultists (mostly rebellious teenagers) to interrogate them,
perform autopsy on dead janitor
o Abbey points towards places at schools where cultists can be found, as
well as any monsters observed
Among suspicious groups is a "dining club" at Harvard
o Null Mysteriis can provide ample information on what to expect as far as
threats are concerned, as well as ways to counter the threats
o Union will provide info on local happenings in the less prestigious parts of
Boston, can provide supplies and weapons, will direct towards
o Cultists will direct towards Anime Boston, site of future sacrifice
o Autopsy will, if the hunter has the skill, reveal that the janitor had some
kind of mollusc-like creature incubate inside of him and eat his organs,
before escaping
First combat encounter in an "abandoned" house in (Southie? Medford?), where
one of the teenagers attempts to perform an eldritch ritual, resulting in him calling
monsters
o Will use either corpses/people infected with polyps, zombies, or
something else Lovecraftian (maybe Deep Ones)
o Kid decides to just say no to interacting with monsters from beyond time
and space, will provide information
Anime Boston
o Interpretation of the Necronomicon leads cultists to believe that they need
virgin sacrifices
o As they are trying to beckon an Old God, they need a very big sacrifice
o Anime Boston provides a place where cultists both in uniform and with
various mutations to blend in, as well as a large concentration of virgins to
sacrifice
o The maintenance tunnels below Hynes Convention Center provide a good
place for a setup and a final encounter
o Two major enemies: Wilcox and the Nauticock that was incubating in the
janitor
Factions Present
Null Mysteriis
o Prominent at local universities
o Most interested in studying the cosmic and biological implications of what
the cult is doing
o Concerned about the theft of the book, as well as an increase in monster
sightings
o Livingstone called in for investigation
o Interviews will mostly discuss implications of college kids being in
possession of a tome of eldritch lore
Ashwood Abbey
o Skull and Bones Club-like organization, big chapter at Harvard
o LOTS of sex, drugs, alcohol, fighting
o Comes from old money in Massachusetts
o Interviews will result in more leads regarding the activities of local
students
The Union
o All over Southie and Dorchester
o Some probably in the janitorial/working class people at Harvard, will be
pissed to find out about a janitors death being swept under the rug
o Can provide reinforcements, weapons, tools
o Some will have information about the local cult practices
Cult
o Led by charismatic cult leader with influence at Harvard (dining club)
o Two major subdivisions
Rank and file are mostly innocent people, will scatter when shit
goes down
A cell of the Faithful of Shulpae, gone rogue, attempting to
summon and consume not just mummies, vampires, or
werewolves, but Old Gods from beyond time and space to gain
their powers (and use in calamari recipes)
o Can draw upon eldritch powers, summoning tendrils, and can command
monsters from beyond
Major Characters
Adrian Rose
o Major player in the local Union cells
o Profession: Laborer (Sewer worker)
o 6'5 ginger, stands out in a crowd
o Gruff, but understanding man, still very much concerned with protecting
Southie from outside forces
o Reached his position mostly through political maneuvering and favors
Livingstone
o Legendary level Null Mysteriis character
o Profession: Scientist
o 6'2, heavily built
o Very skilled combatant
Uses large knife, shotgun
o Expert tracker, uses a wolf
o Specializes in biology, secondary expertise in chemistry
o Will be very useful in investigation, may also be used in combat
encounters
o Influence has caused Null Mysteriis to branch out
Still primarily focused on study, but has begun forays into
"treatment"
Henry Wilcox
o Cult leader
o 5'11, gaunt appearance
o Former Faithful of Shulpae member
o Wants to summon an abyssal demon into the physical world so he can eat
it
o Cunning and charismatic, but also insane
o Has already consumed two Deep Ones, unknown other monsters
o Has access to blood magic, other Lovecraftian powers, rendering him
unstable in both the physical and mental sense
o Commands the Nauticock
Nauticock
o Boss level Eldritch Monster (above Deep Ones and very dangerous to
players, but no where as powerful as an Old God)
o Abilities
Flight
Dread Powers
Fury
Terrify
Tendrils
o Roughly the size of a truck
o Can shoot ichor from siphon below mouth
Winifred Dyer
o Professor of Anthropology, Null Mysteriis member
o Profession: Academic
o 5'8, starting to feel her age
o First becomes aware of the theft of the book, brings it to the attention of
the university and Null Mysteriis
o Is unsure of what people would want to do with the book, but since it is, in
her words, "an Arabic book with an unpronounceable name bound in
human skin" it can't be good
Piers Norwood
o Primary Ashwood Abbey contact
o Profession: Athlete
o ~5'10, wiry muscular
o Something of a party animal, but has some compunctions about the
activities of the Abbey
o Not particularly lacking in intelligence, but also not academically inclined
o No real connections to the Abbey prior to joining it, but is using it to get in
good with old money
o On an athletic scholarship for baseball, uses a baseball bat to devastating
effect
o Doesn't really know much about occult lore, but is a competent fighter and
has suspicions of a dining club at Harvard
Lavinia Du Pont
o Secondary Ashwood Abbey contact
o Profession: Socialite
o 5'7, extremely pale, but not unattractive
o Has a family history with the Abbey, uses connections to get into school,
acquire drugs, info, etc.
o Much more in line with what is expected of Abbey members
o Strongly hedonistic
o Uses a katana because, quote, "it's totally badass"
o As likely to fight a monster as she is to fornicate with one
o (Note: for inspiration, check out Lavinia Whatley)
Christopher Ward
o A (Medford? Southie) teenager who has been recently inculcated into the
cult
Medford provides access to the Fells, a forest environment for
combat, good way to break up the otherwise urban setting
Deep Ones could come up river
Southie has access to the ocean, would make more sense if
summoning Deep Ones, but have no real places for combat to take
place
o 5'9, looks like he's in the early stages of transformation into Tim Burton
o Is desperately trying to rebel against societies norms (in his mind. In
reality, he's a pretty well off)
o Performs an eldritch ritual, briefly "opens the gate", allowing for a few
creatures to step into the physical world, including a few small amphibian-
like creatures, and two nine-foot tall Deep Ones (May change this later,
Deep Ones live in the ocean, not other dimensions)
o Following an encounter with eldritch monsters, decides he doesn't want to
be involved with the cult anymore, will provide info on and location of
cult
