World Language Newsletter October 2017 World Language Curriculum We will be integrating the social studies standards and content into 1st—3rd grade Spanish class. These students receive 30 minutes of instruction, three times a week. In 4th grade, some social studies and some other content will be integrated into Spanish class. These students receive 30 minutes of instruction, two times a week. Every year your child will learn about a new Spanish- speaking area of the world. In first grade, they will explore Honduras & Central America. In second grade, they will learn about Mexico. In third grade, they will focus on Spain. And in fourth grade, they will learn about Peru in South America. World Language Newsletter October 2017

World Language Curriculum We will be integrating the social studies standards and content into 1st—3rd grade Spanish class. These students receive 30 minutes of instruction, three times a week. In 4th grade, some social studies and some other content will be integrated into Spanish class. These students receive 30 minutes of instruction, two times a week. Every year your child will learn about a new Spanish-speaking area of the world. In first grade, they will explore Honduras & Central America. In second grade, they will learn about Mexico. In third grade, they will focus on Spain. And in fourth grade, they will learn about Peru in South America.

Units Covered This Month Kindergarten

My School Day: classroom expectations, classroom mater ials, school in the United States and Cuba

Counting and Calendar: numbers 1-30, days of the week, months of the year, weather

Five Senses: what we see, hear, smell, taste, touch in fall

Fall: fall is one of four seasons in WI, fall symbols, colors and weather

First Grade

Weather and Seasons: Describe weather in Honduras & WI, identify the four seasons in WI & two seasons in Honduras, identify the months in each of WI’s seasons and clothing for each season

Second Grade

Mexican Independence Day: dates of Independence Day in the United States & Mexico: July 4 & September 16, Mexican Independence Day traditions, dates, birthdays, timelines, history of Mexico, native groups of Mexico

Halloween and Day of the Dead: symbols of Halloween and Day of the Dead; Halloween is a “for fun” holiday in the USA, Day of the Dead is a special day for families to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away

Third Grade

Noticias del Idioma Mundial octubre 2017

Plan de Idioma Mundial Estaremos integrando los estándares de ciencias sociales en el grado 1o—3o en la clase de español. Estos estudiantes reciben 30 minutos de instrucción, tres veces una semana. En el grado cuarto, algunos ciencias sociales y algún otro sujeto serán integrados en la clase de español. Estos estudiantes reciben 30 minutos de instrucción, dos veces una semana. Todos los años su niño aprenderá acerca de una nueva área Hispanohablante del mundo. En primero grado ellos explorarán Honduras y Centroamérica; en Segundo grado ellos aprenderán acerca de México. En tercer grado, ellos se centrarán en España. Y en cuarto grado, ellos aprenderán acerca de Perú en Sudamérica.

Mi día escolar: expectativas de la clase, mater iales de la clase, escuela en los Estados Unidos y Cuba

Contando y el calendario: números 1-30, días de la semana, meses del año, el tiempo

Los cinco sentidos: lo que veo, oigo, huelo, saboreo, y toco en el otoño

El otoño: el otoño es una de las cuatro estaciones de WI, los símbolos, colores, y tiempo del otoño

Primer Grado

El tiempo y las estaciones: describir el tiempo en WI y Honduras, identificar las cuatro estaciones en WI y las dos estaciones en Honduras, identificar los meses de cada estación de WI y ropa para cada estación

Segundo Grado El Día de la Independencia de México: las fechas de los Días de la

Independencia de los Estados Unidos y México: el 4 de julio y el 16 de septiembre, tradiciones del Día de la Independencia de México, fechas, cumpleaños, líneas del tiempo, la historia de México, grupos nativos de México

Halloween y el Día de los Muertos: los símbolos de Halloween y Día de los Muertos; Halloween es un día feriado “para la diversión” en los EE.UU., el Día de los Muertos es un día especial para las familias para recordar y honrar a los difuntos

Tercer Grado Concluir con la Introducción a España: repaso de las características culturales de España (idioma, capital, líderes, moneda, arte, música, celebraciones) La Fiesta Nacional: tres celebraciones con tres perspectivas distintas que se celebran en la segunda semana de octubre: el Día de Colón, el Día de la Resistencia Indígena, y la Fiesta Nacional en España

Cuarto Grado • Continuación del estudio de Perú: la hora (la rutina diaria), moneda (contando nuevos soles), comidas tradicionales
