World Languages & Cultures The third quarter has come to a close for our World Languages & Cultures classes. Students studied about a third country and a fourth country in our class rotation. (Please refer to the included schedule.) These students experienced hands-on learning activities that included crafts, puppets, stories, music, manipulatives, costumes, and much more. We hope the pictures in this newsletter show some of the learning and fun that happened in each classroom. For five weeks the bulletin board next to the office in McGuffey Hall will be dedicated to each of the five countries we are covering this year (Mexico, Japan, Kenya, Brazil, and China.) Please stop by and find information about each country, student work, and pictures. There are some interesting cultural events happening in and around our community in the coming months: The Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival will be held Saturday, March 23rd. This is a celebration of spring and friendship between Japan and America occasioned by the blossoming cherry trees, which are part of a ten-year mission to plant 1,000 cherry trees throughout Nashville. It will include a cherry blossom walk, an arts and crafts tent with demonstrations, and exhibits of Japanese culture, a Ginza Marketplace with Japanese products for sale, and the opportunity to taste Japanese foods. http:// nashvillecherryblossomfestival.org/ The TACA Tennessee Crafts Fair is May 3rd-5th at Nashville's Centennial Park. This is a celebration of Tennessee's rich craft heritage on the lawn of Nashville's famed Parthenon. http://tennesseecrafts.org/craft- fairs.html I hope to attend one or more of these events with my family. Maybe I will see you there! I would love to hear from parents! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have regarding WL&C JK-1.
