JURIED REGIONAL EXHIBIT 2019 Exhibit Dates: Feb. 9 – Mar. 21, 2019 with an opening reception Fri. Feb. 15th, 5-7pm

2019 JURORS:

Stephanie Kyriazis, Chief of Interpretation, Saint Gaudens National Historic Site

Penny Whitman, Community and Economic Development Field Specialist, UNH Cooper-ative Extension

Penny and Stephanie have been serving on a Sullivan County Cohort to bring Creative Placemaking to the county and region. The function of Creative Placemaking is to bring economic and cultural development to a community through the arts. This work has been funded by a grant from the Americans for the Arts And the National Association of Coun-ties through a two year grant including training and guidance while developing out-comes. The Cohort includes members from different sectors of the community as well as representation from key Arts Organizations in the county.

We had far more entries than ever—168 pieces from 96 artists–and we were able to ac-cept fewer pieces than usual as there is a separate show in the West Gallery during the Juried Regional this year.

Congratulations to our members Carol Corliss, Jeanne Thieme, Gill Truslow & Karen Win-terholer.

Congratulations also to Carol Corliss for being 1 of 8 artists chosen to display a larger body of work for SELECTIONS 2020.

Painting Group

Hello MAAA Artists,

Due to the Keene Public Library's renovation plans for the Heberton Hall annex, the

Painting Group that has meet at the library for a number of years on Thursdays from

10 – 12 will not be meeting there until the renovations are completed. The other meet-

ing rooms in the main library space, such as the Green Room and the Trustees Room

do not have adequate lighting to use for a painting group. In the renovation plan,

there will be meeting rooms with windows and good lighting for the community to use.

Hopefully, when the renovation is complete, there will be renewed interest in using the

library for a Painting Group weekly event.

In the meantime, if anyone has a suggestion of an alternative meeting space, please

reply with your comments or questions to:

Liz Winchester-Larson

[email protected]

603-352-17742017

Every Thursday 10-12 Heberton Hall

All members are invited to attend the Painting Group, meeting every Thursday morning at 10:00

A.M. in Heberton Hall. Heberton Hall is located right next to the Keene Public Library and has won-

derful lighting for painters. This is a joint program of the library and the Monadnock Area Artists As-

sociation. There is no charge, of course and no instruction. This is a social opportunity for artists to

exchange information and perfect their art abilities. Almost all media are represented. We look for-

ward to seeing you there.

SPRING 2019 Village Arts of Putney

All levels are welcome to participate in this comprehensive study of oil Painting Portraiture from Life & Photos. Tina will share her methods for achieving a like-ness in your portraiture and how to make an ordinary painting a work of art. Students will learn how to pose the model, take great photos with just your smart phone and edit them so they can inspire great art. Students will learn how to choose the correct color palette and how to mix beautiful color that breathes. Tina is an ARC Associate Living Master, a two-time ARC Salon Purchase Award winner, an Interna-tional Artist Magazine People and Figures Grand Prize winner, and Oil Painters of America Online Showcase 1st prize winner. Tina is a proud Portrait Society of Ameri-ca Cecelia Beaux Forum Mentor and teaches annual workshops at Village Arts of Putney, The Scottsdale Artists’ School and The Florence Studio in Florence, Italy and various studios across the country. MAY Painting Vermont with Charlie Hunter Friday—Sunday, May 24-26, 2019 10:00am-5:00pm Tuition: $525.00 *Recommended for intermediate to advanced painters Come paint Vermont as the extraordinary Charlie Hunter sees it! Three days immersed in the Ver-mont landscape of small towns, working farms and the evanescent tragedy of post-pastoral, post-industrial New England. The point of this workshop is to offer a new perspective about why we choose to paint what we do and to try out some new techniques in the field. In this fast-moving, wide-ranging workshop, Charlie Hunter will lead a class focusing on his unique ap-proach to painting and sense of composition when painting from life. Hunter will start with a morning painting demonstration using his limited-palette, carefully-observed technique. After a lunch break, the class will then concentrate on their own paintings. At the end of the day, participants will gather with their work for spirited critique and dis-cussion. “Hunter’s paintings are simultaneously soft and crisp; through his flawless perspective and the accu-racy of his shadows, we almost get an impression of photo-realism. But look for just a moment longer, and you see the grace of his brushstrokes, a feeling of haze, of human-handedness. The technical skill is sharp, but the tenor of the work is as ethereal and mysterious and reverberating as our emotions and our memories.” – Christy Woods, ARTSCOPE

NOTE: A $25 discount will be given for participants who are also attending Diane’s back to back three-day workshop “Painting Beautiful Flowers.” Color mixing can be exciting and fun, instead of scary and frustrating!! For some folks, color mixing may be completely intuitive, but for most of us, we need a simple and practical method for finding accurate color. This workshop offers just such a method, with plenty of time to practice! Award-winning artist and seasoned instructor, Diane Reeves, developed this fun and exciting, hands-on workshop to provide a specific means of consistently mixing beautiful, accurate color. Diane will first cover the foundational concepts about color, then participants are given the oppor-tunity to engage in fun and very practical exercises that teach how to control value, intensity and temperature. Next, she demonstrates how easy it is to apply four simple questions to confidently mix virtually any color. Diane then guides participants as they practice over and over using these questions, so they leave with a thorough understanding of the process as well as lots of experience in mixing accurate color. Diane’s students enjoy her warm and encouraging teaching style and how well she explains both concepts and demos. They’re excited by the valuable guided practice exercises and leave with a new confidence and excitement about mixing color – accurately! This workshop is open to all levels.

These three days will focus on the beloved canine as Fine Art. We will concentrate on the dog’s un-derlying gesture as well as its unique personality. Through lively brushwork we will capture our sub-ject’s essence as well as likeness. We will have an opportunity to study a live model to further un-derstand our photo references. Expect demos throughout the workshop beginning with a head study and then proceeding to specific parts such as the eye and nose. We will always be mindful of form, values and edges with temperature bringing up the rear. Fur can be challenging but we will tackle that no problem.
