WOOD- wood is the raw material used for carpentry work. Various types of

wood are: (1) soft wood (2) hard wood

Soft woodthis belongs to tree with narrow leaves. These trees are

    -light in color

    - Light in weight

    - Color of sapwood and heartwood is not different

    - Example pine wood kail deodar

Hard wood- belongs to trees with broad leaves

    -dark in color

    - Comparatively heavy

    - having more strength than soft wood

    -e.g. shisham, shal,neem

    FITTTING SHOP

    EXPERIMENT NO 1

OBJECT-to study the various tools used in fitting shop

    (a) Marking and measuring tools-

Steel scale, trysquare, combination set scriber, caliber, gauge,

    divider, surface plate.

    (b) Holding and supporting tools-vices block angle plate

    (c) Cutting tools-hand hacksaw, files, chisel

    (d) Striking tools-(hammers) ball peen, crosspeen, straight

    peen

    (e) Drilling and threading tools-twist drill, tap set, with die

    with die holder

    EXPERIMENT NO 2

OBJECT- To perform the various fitting operation on a M.S flat

SAWING-IT Sis the operation required to cut the metal in

different shape and sizes cutting takes place only during the

forward stoke whereas backward stoke is either coolant

should be used during the cutting

FILLING-it is the operation perform by files pressure for cutting

or rubbing should be exerted during the forward stroke

whreas backward stroke is ideal,it is done 3 ways first of all

cross filing is done for more stock remoble followed by

straight filing and for final finishing draw filing is done.

SCRAPPING-this operation is mainly done in a fitting shop for

producing more accurate finish than obtained by filing. Stoke

removal for a localized portion in scrapping

TAPPING- it is the process cutting internal threads with the

help of tape and tape holder

DIEING- it is cutting external threads with the help of die and

    die holders

    EXPERIMENT NO.2

OBJECT- To perform the various carpentry operations like

    measuring, marking, sawing, planning, chiseling.

MARKING-it is the process of setting the dimension on a piece

of wood for required shape. Marking is done with the help of

pencil, scriber, tri-square, marking gauge, mortise gauge etc.

SAWING-IT is the cutting process of wood in required shape

and size like straight inclined or curved. Sawing is done with

the help of various saws in work piece is held in bench wise

PLANING- it is the process of smoothing the surface of a piece

of wood by a planner. First job is held in holding device like

bench wise. Pressure is applied on the plan during the forward

stroke and relived during the backward stroke.

CHIESLING-it is the process cutting the Smallwood stock to get

the desired shape. chisel should be hit by a mallet

    EXPERIMENT NO.3

    Welding Lab

    1. OBJECT-: To study welding, types of welding, common material that can bewelded and welding equipments.

WELDING-welding is a process of permanently joining two material pieces

preferably pieces of some metal with or without application of pressure

with or without use of filler material but with application of heat.

WELDING CAN BE BROADLY CLASSIFIED AS-

1.PRESSURE WELDING-usually metal to be join do not melt alwayspressure is applied to affect the weld.no filler metal is added

2.FUSION WELDING. Metal pieces to be joined are melted locally no

    pressure is applied .

    TYPES OF WELDING PROCESS-

    1 ARC WELDING

    2 GAS WELDING

    3 RESISTANCE WELDING

COMMON MATERIAL-Cast iron, Stainless steel ,Nickel and

    nickel alloys

    Safety

Make sure there is proper ventilation in the area that you are welding in.Always wear a functional welding helmet while welding.

    Alway

s wear a leather apron and leather gloves while welding. Long sleeved

    shirts are also recommended.

    People wearing nylon

    -

topped shoes should wear a pair of leather spats when

    welding.

Do not attempt to touch recently w elded objects (even with gloves) until

    they

    have cooled.
