Workshop on ‘Millets Mission in Tamil Nadu’

A workshop on Millets Promotion in Tamil Nadu was organized by State

Planning Commission, along with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore on

25th October 2012 at IIT, Chennai under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Vice

Chairperson, State Planning Commission. The prime objective of the workshop is to

design strategies to give fillip to millets cultivation and its value addition in the State.

Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development), Member (Agriculture and

Irrigation), Secretaries to Government, Head of Departments, Member Secretary,

State Planning Commission, Joint Secretary (Seeds), Director (Millets), Department

of Agriculture and co-operation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India have

also participated in the meeting. All the stakeholders in millets promotion viz.

farmers, officials, researchers, NGOs, SHGs, nutritionists, processors attended the

workshop. A small exhibition portraying the live specimens crops and various value

added products of millets was also arranged for creating better awareness among

the consumers.
