Fiona’s story...With a history of anxiety, depression and panic attacks, Fiona often had difficulty controlling her emotions in the workplace. Despite her enthusiasm for work, Fiona’s lack of control over her emotions often lead to confrontations with her colleagues and managers.

Having unsuccessfully engaged with several employment support services in the past, Fiona’s employer contacted RBLI following a recordation received from a partner organisation.

RBLI were able to assess Fiona’s circumstances and place a more appropriate Job Coach for support, and source funding to cover all of the costs involved. Responding well to her new support, and the experience which he brought, Fiona was able to develop her confidence and control her emotions at work.

With the help of RBLI, and the support funding we were able to source for Fiona, her output and communication ability has improved and her job is no longer at risk.

“with unemployment an underlying concern, manyemployees exhibit symptoms of work-related stress”

Fiona would often find herself behaving aggressively towards her work colleagues, often with periods of crying and depression. As a result, her performance was slow, and her position was at risk.

With the help of a Job Coach, Fiona has been able to focus on the task at hand, and develop coping strategies to manage her emotions at work. As a result, her output has improved dramatically.

Fiona is now beginning to develop her skills, and move on to the next step in her career. With the help of funding secured by RBLI and the support of her employer, Fiona is working towards an NVQ.

Richard’s story...In his early 50’s and with Cerebral Palsy, communication difficulties and learning difficulties, Richard was struggling at work. Despite his desire to perform well and an impeccable attendance record, Richard was having difficulties managing his work-life balance and his working relationships with colleagues.

Richard had been supported by a welfare-to-work programme, but with this service now ended his manager contacted RBLI in the hope of finding a solution.

An RBLI Job Coach arranged a meeting with Richard and his employer to discuss the issues they were facing, and following a funding application, Richard’s employer was awarded with 250 hours of fully-funded support.

RBLI quickly identified that Richard needed to be coached on the differences between personal and professional relationships, along with coping strategies to manage his health conditions at work. With the help of a Job Coach, Richard is once again a valued member of the team.

“digital information technology in the workplacehas blurred the lines between work and home”

THEN NOW NEXTRichard had been having problems dealing with other employees and social networking. The employer had restricted his movements around the site due to issues occurring with work colleagues.

By better understanding the differences between work and home, Richard is now able to communicate appropriately and professionally with his colleagues, and be an effective team member.

With the support of the employer, RBLI’s Job Coach will now be delivering disability awareness training to Richard’s colleagues, so that they can better understand the difficulties he faces at work.
