InAprilof2011,theorganizationtookcontroloftheemploymentlistingwebsiteWorkNOLA.com,whichhad
previouslybeenmanagedbyMakeNewOrleansHome.
GNO,Inc.isseekingtheservicesofanexperiencedwebsitedesignfirmtoredesign,develop,implement,and
providehostingandmaintenanceservicesforWorkNOLA.com.Thisprojectwillutilizepostedlistingsandaccounts
fromtheexistingwebsiteaswellasnewfeatures,capabilities,anddifferentvisuallayoutassuggestedbyGNO,
Inc.andthefirmselected.
BackgroundGreaterNewOrleans,Inc.playsavitalroleastheregionaleconomicdevelopmenthub,servingtocoordinate,
consolidate,andthencatalyzeeconomicdevelopmentinitiatives.Theorganizationsaimistogeneratewealthand
improvethequalityoflifeintheregion.Attractingandretainingbusinesses,advocatingforpoliciestoimprovethe
competitiveclimate,andensuringtheavailabilityofahigh-qualityworkforce,GNO,Inc.intendstocounter
negativeperceptionsandensurethatthereisaclearunderstandingofthesupremeopportunitiesavailableintheGreaterNewOrleansregion.
Theorganizationhasembarkedonademand-drivenhumancapitalstrategyinordertoensurethattheregion
meetsworkforcedemands.Underthatmission,GNO,Inc.hasmaintainedtheemploymentlistingsite
WorkNOLA.cominitscurrentformbutrequiressomeenhancementsinresponsetothegrowingneedsofour
regionsemployers.
ProjectObjectives
ThegoalofWorkNOLA.comistoprovideasimplebutcomprehensiveno-costemploymentresourceforthe
GreaterNewOrleansareawhilefunctioningasamarketingtoolfortheregion.Thecurrentsitefeatures
employmentlistingsforavarietyofindustries,butlacksinbothvisualdesignandfunction.
Theredesignedsiteshouldfeaturegreatercontrolofaccountsfortheapplicants,employers,andGNO,Inc.staff
aswellasenhancedcontentcapabilitiestobettersharethelistingsonthesiteandfeaturesuitableinformation
abouttheregionforapplicantswhomaybemovingfromoutsideofthearea.
Equallyimportantistheneedforthesitetotakeonasophisticateddesigntoaccuratelydepictourregionasahub
ofdigitalservices.
Thewebsiteshallmeetthefollowingcriteria:
Visuallyappealinglayoutthatfunctionsindesktop,laptop,andmobileenvironments.WorkNOLA.comshouldfeatureaveryobviousNewOrleanslook.
EasilyupdatedCMSfromthefront-endandback-endforgreatercontroloverlistingsandaccountsbyapplicants,employers,andGNO,Inc.administrators.
Abilitytoacceptafullrangeofresumeformatsforuploadbyapplicants,addedabilitytostoremorethanonecoverletter.
Siteshouldbeeasilyupgradable.

Desiredimprovementsinclude,butarenotlimitedtothoselistedbelow.Additionalenhancements,atthe

AccountManagement
Greatercapabilitytomanagejobs,accountname,anddetailsofeachlisting.Additionally,ifemployeeleaves,eachcompanyneedstheabilitytochangetheiraccountadministratoreasily. Jobapplicantsshouldhavefullabilitytomanageallaspectsoftheiraccounts-username,password,avatar,
profile,resume(s),coverletter,portfolio,professionalattachments,abilitytobeaddedtoworkforcebank.
Employersshouldhavefullabilitytomanageallaspectsoftheiraccountsusername,password,avatar,profile,applicantintakemethod,accountadministrator,socialmediasharing.
Siteadministratorshouldhavefullabilitytomanageallaspectsofalluseraccounts(applicantsandemployers)-usernames,passwordreset,avatar,profile.Thisfunctionalityshouldincludepermissiontoadd/removejobs,
changeemployeradmins,addordeleteaccounts.Administratorshouldbeabletochangeanyaspectofany
accountorlistingatanymoment.
SiteshouldincludeadetailedsetofinstructionsandFAQforusers.SiteAdministration
Siteadministratorshouldhaveabilitytoanalyzemetricsofsitehowoftenlistingsarepostedbyindustry,howmanyapplicantsineachindustry,etc.
TraffictrackingshouldallowforGNO,Inc.toeasilymonitortheactivityofusersforinsightintopossiblechangestoterminologyorhierarchyofthesite.
ThesitemustutilizeastandardCMSorsimilarsiteadminenvironmentwhichissimpletomaintainandbeabletoaccommodateavisualoverhaulperformedwithskillsrequiredbytypicalwebstandards.
SitemustbecompatiblewithGNO,Inc.webserversandmustfitappropriatespecificationsforfullusageoncurrentconfiguration.ThecurrentlistingsexistsinaMySqldatabaseandthehostingenvironmentsupports
PHP5.2+,MySQL5.2+,andrunsonanApachewebserver.

Fullintegrationwithsocialmediaforeasysharingoflistingsbyapplicantsandemployersalike,addedabilitytoeasilyemailalisting
Providecomprehensivedirectoryoflocalworkforceforemployerstosearch,withoptionforaccount-holderstooptout(alaLinkedIn)
DatafeedviaRSSorAPIforexternalsitestoeasilyfeaturelistings Theabilitytosortjobsbyjustcategoryandindustry,inadditiontotheaddedabilitytocategorizejobsbyskill
sets.Employersandjobseekerscouldbothsearchforskillsets.
