Working with Colored Pencils

Step 1:

• Begin with a light pencil sketch.

• Use the colored pencils to roughly lay in the main colors

Step 2:

• Begin to shade by layering colors.

• Some details can be added using a graphite pencil, as was done in the lacing of the baseball

• The addition of lights and darks while layering gives the objects form.

Step 3:

• Continue layering colors.

• A kneaded eraser can be used to lift and adjust colors.

• Add richness to the drawing by using effective color combinations.

Step 4:

• The last step usually doesn’t involve additional layering.

• Drawing details are added.

• Values are adjusted.
