PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE Prevention of degradation of intact wetlands Repair of degraded wetlands Understanding the causes of the degradation, and ensuring that these are mitigated Protecting eco-system services such as water quality, flooding, biological diversity, soil conservation, and food security Addressing other causes of degradation, such as poor agricultural practices and invasive alien plants Use of legislation and advocacy to ensure that land-owners take the necessary steps timeously to prevent wetland degradation Building boardwalks, bird hides and interpretive signboards to enhance the recreational, tourism and educational value of rehabilitated wetlands
