Scope: The aim of this task is to allow the students to demonstrate their ability to applyvarious concepts, theories and processes studied/developed in the class.

Question 1

A simple supported single span beam supports a non-trafficable roof. It is subjected tofollowing loads.

Dead load = 7 kN/m

Live load = 15 kN/m

Ultimate & serviceability wind loads = 25 kN/m & 15 kN/m respectively

If the above wind loads are acting upward direction (opposing the dead and live loads), statethe load combination and values which require consideration when assessing the member forstrength and serviceability limit states.

Question 2

Determine wind action pressure at a height of 20 m for a tower, which is required to have apost disaster function. The tower is located in 10 km inland from Mackay and is an opencountry area. No significant hills or escarpment in the area and no shielding. The tankexpected to have a 50 year life.
