Students submitting assessment tasks at the staff room should only submit these tasks to their teacher or a nominated representative from the faculty. If the task is collected by anyone else the student MUST ask for a signed submission receipt. Year 11-12 students will receive a zero for failing to submit their assessment task by the due date unless they have a doctor’s certificate stating the nature of their absence. This is in line with NESA’s ACE manual. If you are absent on the due date you must submit the assessment task with a doctor’s certificate on the first day that you return to school, whether you have the class or not.

Task Description:

Section One: You are to complete your own research to answer questions regarding employment

obligations. These questions must be answered in your own words in the spaced provided. Please

discuss with your teacher before adding extra paper to your responses.

Section Two: You are to analyse media articles discussing current issues in the workplace in Australia

regarding employers’ responsibilities. You will complete your analysis on the templates provided in

this booklet. You must complete these templates in your own words in the spaces provided. Please

discuss with your teacher before adding extra paper to your responses.

Section Three: You are to complete an extended response for the question ‘Compare and contrast the

advantages and disadvantages of TWO types of employment.’ You will need to use your research to

complete this task as well as make use of the coursework covered in class. This must be submitted on

the due date with the rest of this assessment as a hard copy only.

Submission Notes:

You are able to submit one draft (hard copy submission only) of the Section Three Essay Component

of this assessment task, no later than 3pm Wednesday 25th March 2020 (Wednesday Week 9).

You must submit this booklet and your extended response on the due date in the period the class

occurs that day.

contracts and employers’ responsibilities. Complete each of the questions provided. Your answers to the

questions need to be in your own words. Handwrite your answers in the space provided.

Types of Employment Contracts Research Questions (30 marks)

Answer the following questions in full sentences and paragraph structure where appropriate.

11. Explain the ‘award’ system (referring to pay rates and conditions) in Australia and provide a specific example of one award system in Australia. (Explain 2 marks, Example 1 mark, 3 marks total)

12. Explain the concept of an enterprise agreement (also referred to as a ‘registered agreement’). Your answer should include a definition of the concept, what groups this can apply to, the pay rates associated with an enterprise agreement, and how long agreements apply for. (4 marks)

13. An employee who is not covered by an award or agreement is considered to be award and agreement free and thus under an individual employment contract. Describe the minimum wages and conditions for employees who are award and agreement free (this should include pay, hours of work, and public holiday and leave entitlements as well as the National Employment Standards). (4 marks)

14. Explain how the preferred type of employment might change for people throughout their working lives. Think about how employment types can change for people as they finish studying and grow older as well as how gender, skills and career goals can impact this. (5 marks)

Section Three: Extended Response (15 marks)

Write an essay response to the following question:

Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of TWO different types of employment.

Your answer must comply with formal essay structure and fulfil a word limit of 600-900 words.

This response must be submitted on the due date in hard copy form with the rest of this assessment task. It will

need to be printed in either Arial or Times New Roman 12pt font with double spacing.

Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of TWO different types of employment.
