Work experience placements for school students Workplace health and safety short course It is mandatory for all students participating in work experience to understand their obligations relating to workplace health and safety (WHS) prior to commencing work experience. Students must provide evidence of successfully completing a WHS course relevant to their intended work experience placement industry. e.g. certificate of completion of WHS course, White Card. Choose one of the below three options to meet your WHS training requirements for work experience. Option 1: Construction White Card Required for work experience in Construction, Plumbing, Electrical or occupations where you will be entering an operational construction zone. This course is delivered face-to-face by local by Registered Training Organisations (RTO). There would be a registration process and a fee payable to the RTO involved. You will need to source a trainer and obtain this qualification prior to work experience. I have a white card I do not have a white card I will need to enrol in a white card course Option 2: Statement of Attainment If you have completed WHS training relevant to your work experience placement, you are able to provide your Statement of Attainment for WHS competencies completed. This must be from a nationally recognised course through a Registered Training Organisation, for example: SIRXWHS002 Contribute to workplace health and safety. The statement of attainment must be relevant to your intended work experience placement industry.

Work experience placements for school students

Workplace health and safety short course

It is mandatory for all students participating in work experience to understand their obligations relating to workplace health and safety (WHS) prior to commencing work experience.

Students must provide evidence of successfully completing a WHS course relevant to their intended work experience placement industry. e.g. certificate of completion of WHS course, White Card.

Choose one of the below three options to meet your WHS training requirements for work experience.

☐ Option 1: Construction White Card

Required for work experience in Construction, Plumbing, Electrical or occupations where you will be entering an

Step 1. Go to https://smartmove.safetyline.wa.gov.au/

Step 2. Select SIGN IN

Have you registered on this site previously? Click the appropriate icon for

when you registered.

Never registered before? Click ‘I want to SIGN UP’.

Enter relevant details to create an account.

Activate the account after signing up using your email.

Step 3. You will arrive at the DASHBOARD

Select MY COURSES

Complete the GENERAL MODULE Review your results – you must pass

Go to the HOME tab on your dashboard

View the various industry modules available

Step 4. Select the INDUSTRY MODULE to match your work experience placement.

You may be required to do more than one Industry Module. E.g. a computer shop would require both Business and Information Technology and the Retail Modules.

PRINT a copy of your Certificate, White Card or Statement of Attainment

ATTACH your copy to your work experience application form
