Parent Math Night

Our scheduled SAC meeting for Tuesday, March 25 will be a parent Math Night instead! Come on out and

join other parents to learn more about Math instruction and assessment at Woodland and in DSBN. Child

care will be provided at the school.

On Wednesday, February 5th eleven Grade 5 & 6 stu-

Woodland Public Speaking contests. Class representa-

tives from the Junior Division were: Austin, Mason,

Josh, Charlotte, Tori, Lucy, Cara, Jordan, Aurora,

Molly, and Madeline. Intermediate speakers included:

Have you heard about DREAM BOX?

Woodland has purchased Dream box Learning’s Math Program for Grades 1 –8, an

online, Intelligent Adaptive Learning ™ program that helps all students achieve better,

faster math proficiency. It is extremely important that you do not help your child while

they are working through a lesson. The program will eventually adjust to your child’s

level. It is also important that they finish each lesson that they have started and that they

are the only one using their account. Our subscription lasts all year, which means it is

available all summer long! The students should know their login and password. Your

student can access Dream box on our school website! It’s available 24 hours a day, 7

days a week! This is a great homework activity for all Woodlanders!

Woodland Supports Pink Shirt Day—

Wednesday, February 26th

Woodland supported the message, “Bullying Stops Here!”

again this year when several of our students and staff

stand against

bullying by

taking part

along with

many others

across our

country.

Creative Minds 2014 is coming back to Woodland this spring! I’m

excited to see how all of you will get involved with this year’s

theme: “Celebrating Niagara”

Celebrating Niagara can be displayed in so many of our categories. Build the Welland Canal out of Lego, or wood – take pictures or draw/paint many of the beautiful vineyards, nature hikes, fruit orchards in full bloom or in full harvest. Make Brocks Monument out of any material that you can imagine! Write a story about your favourite place or person in Niagara. Cook or bake up something yummy that can only be found or grown in Niagara! The possibilities are endless and the creativity is to-tally up to you! Go out and explore Niagara and come up with an entry that will help us all celebrate Niagara – a beautiful place to live J

Congratulations to the February students of the

Month. They were recognized for the character trait

of OPTIMISM. A special presentation featuring the

dramatization of Pete The Cat and His Magic Sun-

glasses was made by Mrs. Masterson’s Grade 1/2

class which included the main message, ―With a

positive outlook on life, you can transform a grumpy

day into an awesome day!‖ Prior to the assembly we

enjoyed the uplifting songs , I Love My White Shoes

and Rocking in My School Shoes on the announcements. The intermediate basketball teams and junior

basketball teams were acknowledged by Mr. Ott and Mrs. Wiens. Mrs. Mussari reminded us of our up-

coming events including the FUN IN THE SUN dance-a-thon and Creative Minds. The BLUE team

was the colour house champion for February. In March, our focus will be on PERSEVERANCE.
