Wood Middle School Electives for the 2014-

2015 School YearRising 7th and 8th graders will fill out next year’s course registration sheets through their math classes starting today. Registration will continue through January 31st.

Please use the note sheet provided by your teacher to circle electives you want to

take and write any questions you might have.

WORLD LANGUAGESSpanish and French

Next year, as an elective, seventh and eighth graders can sign up for a World Language class.  We offer levels 1, 2 

and 3 of Spanish and French and we also offer Spanish for Native Speakers 1 (SSS 1).  For SSS 1, you will be given a placement test in seventh grade to determine if you can take the class as an eighth grader.  You’ll need these 

credits for high school, so why not take them now?   All of the World Language teachers look forward to seeing you 

next year.   ¡¡Nos vemos!!        À bientôt!

Note: Any student planning to go into an IB or magnet program for high school will need at least one level of a

language.

Introduction To Engineering Design (PLTW) – 8th Grade (CADD/ARE Preferred)

This is the capstone course to the Engineering  Pathway here at Wood MS. Introduction to Engineering DesignTM (IED) is a high school level course that is appropriate for students who are interested in design and engineering and are strong in mathematics (preferably taking Honors Geometry). The major focus of the IED course is to expose students to design process, research and analysis, teamwork, communication methods, global and human impacts, engineering standards, and technical documentation.

Our school has 5 instrumental ensembles to choose from: 2 orchestras and 3 bands

graders who have completed at least one year of band in middle school

graders who have completed at least one year of orchestra in middle school and have been recommended by Ms. Tauber after an audition

Advanced groups attend the Music in the Parkscompetition at the end of the school year at HERSHEY PARK! Festival performance in the morning, enjoy the park the rest of the day!

ALL instrumental music groups perform at

concerts in and outside of school, during the school day and in the

evening!

Chorus• For 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who would like to develop their 

singing skills! We sing pop songs, “classical” choir songs, as well as songs in foreign languages!

World MusicThis music class is an introduction to general music where students 

will encounter the following:

• Students will learn about music theory which includes learning how to read music through rhythm and melody.  abilities of 

middle school students.

• In addition to beginning music theory, students will be introduced to the World Music Drumming curriculum.

• Students will explore the varied styles of popular music, history, and culture. Students are able to perform in public, live 

performances.

counseling, or Mr. Bush!! Remember, what electives you choose on

your registration form now will dictate which elective classes are offered next

school year so, make your choices carefully. Finally, it’s very important that

you hand in your forms on time. If you turn forms in late you may not get your

first choice electives.
