Strack RollingSenior guard Lisa Strack leads AU in scoring with 14.2 ppg, which included 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in AU’s win over Mount St. Mary’s last Friday. She was 6-of-12 from the fl oor as her 24 points matched her career-high. The Patriot League Player of the Week on November 14 also leads the team on the glass with 7.4 rpg.

McGeorge From DeepSophomore guard Ti’Asia McGeorge has had the hot hand from three-point range early in the season as she has knocked down 13 trifectas in the fi rst 4 games on 41.9 percent shooting. This includes a 5-for-7 performance from deep against Mount St. Mary’s last Friday.

Grand TheftAU has recorded 12 steals in each of its last two games and currently leads the Patriot League with 9.0 steals per game.

Big Expectations for 2011-12American has been picked fi rst in the Patriot League preseason poll, the second straight season the Eagles have been selected to win the league. Additionally, Strack, an All-Patriot League Second Team performer last year, has been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

20-20 VisionThe Eagles fi nished the 2010-11 season with a 22-9 record, marking the fi fth time in program history they have reached the 20-win plateau. AU’s 22 wins were tied for second-most in school history with the 2009-10 team.

View From the TopAmerican captured a share of the 2011 Patriot League regular season title for the third time in four years. The Eagles’ .714 winning percentage (10-4) in conference play is tied for the third-best mark in program history.

Enjoying the RoadThe Eagles won 12 games last season away from Bender Arena -- nine true road games and three neutral-site contests -- which tied the program-record for most away-from-home victories in a season. AU also earned 12 triumphs away from home during the 1986-87 and 1997-98 seasons. This year, the Eagles are 2-0 away from home.

Gettin’ DefensiveLast season, American allowed 53.7 points per game, which led the Patriot League and was ranked 15th in the country. AU held its opposition to under 50 points 12 games last season, each of which have resulted in victories with the exception of the Patriot League Championship Game loss at Navy.

60 is the NumberAmerican fi nished last year a perfect 18-0 when scoring at least 60 points, a streak that was broken on November 13 with the 68-64 2OT loss to James Madison. Going back to the 2009-10 season, the Eagles had won their last 30 games when hitting the 60-point mark. Prior to James Madison, AU’s last loss when reaching 60 came on December 20, 2009, when Maryland defeated the Eagles, 75-64.

Cleaning the GlassAU was 15-1 last season when outrebounding its opponent, and had won 18 games in a row when its held a rebounding margin before its February 23, 2011, loss at Navy. In that game, the Eagles held a slight +1 rebounding margin (37-36) to snap the streak.

Shoot for the StarsThe Eagles fi nished a perfect 20-0 last season when shooting a higher percent from the fi eld compared to their opponents. Additionally, AU was 16-0 when outshooting its competition from three-point range. AU won all six of its games last year when reaching 50 percent shooting as a team and was a perfect 9-0 when registering at least 40 percent shooting from beyond-the-arc.

A Little Help from Your FriendsA big reason for American’s success last season was the strong play of its bench. The Eagles’ reserves outscored their respective opponent’s bench in 22 games of their 30 games this season with AU holding a 16-6 record in

these contests. This year, AU’s bench has outscored that of its opponents in four of its fi ve games.

Strong Out of the GateAU completed non-conference play with a 10-4 record last year, which was tied for the third-most non-league wins in program history. The 10 victories were one shy of the 1985-86 and1986-87 squads that registered 11 non-league wins in each season.

Setting the PacePrior to the defeat to Army on January 19 last year, American had won 11 games in a row, the sixth-longest winning streak in Division I at the time. The Eagles had not lost a game since falling at Texas Tech on November 27, and had outscored their opponents by 12.0 ppg during the stretch. The 11-game run tied a program-record

for most consecutive wins, which was also accomplished during the 2007-08 season.

Record-Setting Pace to 50The win over Brown on December 31st last season was Head Coach Matt Corkery’s 50th career victory. In his third season at the helm at American, Corkery has a 66-33 record, and he became the fastest coach to reach the 50-win milestone in program history.

The 2011-12 season is Matt Corkery’s fourth as the head coach at American University and his seventh overall on the staff. Corkery has accumulated a 66-33 career record at the helm in his four years, including

a 32-10 mark in Patriot League play.

In his three seasons, his squads have earned two Patriot League regular season championships, two appearances in the Patriot League Championship Game, two WNIT berths, and he was honored with the 2010 Patriot League Coach of the Year award. Corkery has coached one Patriot League Player of the Year, three Patriot League All-Rookie Team honorees, fi ve All-Patriot League selections, and 21 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll picks.

Corkery has already etched his place in the Patriot League record books with his .670 career winning percentage, which is second all-time in conference history. Kevin Morris, who coached at Fordham from 1993-95, owns the best career winning percentage in Patriot League history with his .678 mark. Additionally, with a victory over Brown last December 31, Corkery became the fastest coach in program history to reach the 50-win plateau as it took him only 76 total games to that point.

The 2010-11 season was a successful campaign for Corkery’s Eagles, as they earned a share of their second straight Patriot League regular season crown with a 10-4 record. AU reached the Patriot League Championship Game for the second straight season after winning at Lehigh, the league’s two-time defending champion, in an overtime thriller in the semifi nals. American fi nished with 22 victories on the season, matching the 2009-10 team for the second-most single-season wins in program history.

The 2010-11 squad also set history with its 11-game win streak from November 28, 2010 through January 29, 2011, which matched a program record. During that span, the Eagles captured the Hawk Holiday Classic with victories over Binghamton and Brown. AU also extended its home win streak to 14 games with a midseason victory over Holy Cross, a mark that tied another program record.

The 2009-10 campaign, Corkery’s second as the head coach, was a historic season for the Eagles as they fi nished Patriot League play with a 13-1 Patriot League record, their best ever conference record. This 13-1 mark earned AU a share of the Patriot League regular season championship. American’s 22-10 overall record gave the Eagles only their fourth ever 20-win season, and the 22 triumphs were the second-most in school history. As a result, AU was rewarded with its program-record third straight postseason berth and Corkery was tabbed as the conference’s coach of the year, American’s second-ever honoree.

In Corkery’s inaugural season of 2008-09, he led American to a 19-12 record, which included the program’s second consecutive postseason appearance. The Eagles’ 10-5 non-conference record was the best in program history, and their 19 total victories were the most since the 1997-98 campaign. The Eagles defeated two NCAA Tournament teams, Drexel and Lehigh, during the season.

In addition to on-the-court success, Corkery has helped bring increased interest to the

program. The Eagles have set new attendance record in Bender Arena twice during his tenure, the fi rst time occuring on February 7, 2009, when 1,177 fans saw the Eagles defeat Lehigh, 65-56. A year later on February 13, 2010, 1,291 spectators came out to Bender to watch American roll 82-47 past Colgate.
