Making connections through various meetings Kanto area returnees, Returnees in Kanagawa, International Community Fellowship for foreign students and, Mitaka small group, seeking to be an encouragement as I connect with returnees.
A l l N a t i o n s R e t u r n e e s Conference ANRC will be held in November, south of Tokyo in Shizuoka. Previous conferences have birthed returnee networks, lay led, and unique to the regions of Japan. ANRC is Nov. 22-24. Please pray for returnees to come to ANRC and make connections to help them grow spiritually. We have a kick-off meeting in September to encourage folks to attend ANRC.
Summer many returnees return from studying abroad. Please pray that we can help them make connections to find a home church and fellowship in Japan, so they can be effective witnesses and “shine their light” to those around them. Some of
my returnee friends are struggling with the pressures of working for Japanese companies after living overseas.
Visiting supporters in Mass. in October. One missions conference is planned. I was just invited to a conference in California to represent both TEAM & CRASH. Let me know if I can stop in your area to share about Returnee & Diaspora Ministries. For the East Coast part of my trip, I will need to borrow a car.
I have started using a mail server called “Mail Chimp” to send out email updates. It looks like only 40-60% of my personal supporters open them. I hope this changes
One year back in Japan, 21st year serving with TEAM. A large part of this first year back, a new town, a new ministry, while working at CRASH and with returnee networks a key factor has been building
connections & relationships of trust. As part of that we have a diaspora “brainstorming” group to discuss ministry to returnees & internationals.
CRASH Japan budgets are being decreased gradually and that will mean more staff cuts in the next months.

Prayer request from the Merryman's
Dear Praying Friends, Everything has been such a whirlwind here that we haven't been able to put together a prayer request list to send to all of you in a long time, but a friend asked me last night if I had a group of faithful prayers back home giving us solid prayer cover, which finally got me back in gear. For those who might want to read more or understand more about what we do here, I've provided some quick summaries--you can scroll down to the very bottom. But to spare all of you who have heard it before, I'll just cover prayer requests directly below: In sum, the Lord has blessed us with graciously allowing Adrian and I to continue to serve here in two very Christ-centered ministries---Adrian at SEDA and me joining Children in Christ. Addison has become our volunteer IT specialist and manages all our field photos for Children in Christ, and Anna is getting involved too. Adrian:
Continued favor with the government, local government officials Further wisdom in leading Worldvision's microfinance here and also the agricultural work for local farmers Continued health, after recovering from malaria and brusellosis Protection and safety on Mt. Kilimanjaro as he leads our two teenagers and my visiting brother on a Mt.
Kilimanjaro climb June 16th - 23rd (the one thing my brother really wanted to do when he was here)---protection and safety and health for me and Grace, as I care for her alone for the week.
Continued health for Adrian's mom back home, as we are far away from her

Strength and capacity to do Children in Christ work---only through the Lord's help can it be done-- it seems daunting when I spend any time contemplating it
o Trying to oversee 16 countries and ministry leaders and the Lord is opening doors for 3 new countries--need a lot of wisdom
o This is a full-time job, though volunteer, and only the Lord can help me do this work and also do a good job of being wife and mom---I have to restrain myself from getting too 'absorbed' in the work
Strength and capacity to continue homeschooling Grace in a way that would please the Lord and give her all the love, nurture, and Godly wisdom she needs to grow in Him
Health for all of us in the family. We have all had bouts of unwellness--but praising God that all seem to be on the mend or well.
Wisdom--asked by Tanzanian Baptist women's church group to provide teaching on godly womanhood and also dealing with unforgiveness--Friday night June 30th and Saturday July 1
o This request came out of the blue just recently and I need much wisdom on what the Lord would have me teach and how to teach a local group of women in a way that would bear fruit and be useful
Safety for Rob, my brother, who is visiting us for two weeks beginning tomorrow, the 8th-23rd June--and safety and health for all on Kilimanjaro
! o That this trip might be a great encouragement to him spiritually and that he would experience the very
presence of the Lord and His love while here and draw near to Him Tanzanian Teen ministry on Saturday nights---wisdom and teaching that would grow these teens in their faith
and knowledge of the Lord--and that they would develop a love and thirst for His Word that will last a lifetime Health and protection for my mom and dad back home and safety for all of us as we soon leave for the States
July 6th to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and enjoy fellowship with them, other family and friends
Addison and Anna:
Fruitful ministry on campus--the Bible study they lead in the primary school--that it would bring light and truth to the students there, and that those students would grow in their faith and become faithful stewards of all that God has given them
Wisdom about whether to begin a junior high type of ministry this coming fall and help lead as student leaders Addison---peace and rest after taking 9 exams, wisdom in serving Children in Christ, ability to reach the lost in
his school sphere, wisdom as he gears up for college applications next year Anna--peace and trust that the Lord will guide her in every conversation with her peers, for at least one person
with whom she can relate (it is very hard to find friends in such a spiritually dark place and her one friend just left TZ)
Safety and wisdom for both on the mountain June 16-23rd (and that no one gets grumpy with little sleep and lots of exhaustion :-) )

For friends (again, it is easy to find ministry here--difficult to find real friends) For growth, knowledge, and joy in the love, truth, and hope of the Lord Jesus Christ For her ministry to kids who don't know Jesus---she has a heart to share the Gospel and continues to do so . . . For health and protection

Your Sister in Christ, Jen + + + + + + + Extra Background on Ministry Work Here: Adrian- SEDA continues to be a growing team of very Christ-focused ministry workers who provide loans to the poorest of the working poor. Adrian is also working with agricultural improvements for farmers here in Tanzania. He has spent many days in rice paddies . . .oddly enough! Rice in Tanzania?? Yes! The Lord has really blessed these two areas of ministry, opened doors, allowed for major spiritual content to be inputted. The director of WorldVision here in Tanzania is sold out for Christ, which makes it a joy to be a part of this team. He has become a dear friend and wise counsel. Every opportunity to share the Gospel is being explored and pursued. . .which is joy to both of us. Jen--(and Addison, Anna) Children in Christ (CIC): Even though children make up the majority of the population here in Africa, they are the most marginalized part of society. This becomes a stark reality in living here. Churches generally focus on adults only--most churches don't have Sunday School or any child ministries. CIC (volunteer-based ministry) has local ministry leaders
! who go to local churches upon invitation by pastors, and provides Scripture-based inspiration, training and equipping on how to minister to children --many churches begin Sunday School and kids' programs after this and the local church grows. But we also share the heart of God to reach all children--even the unreached-- for Christ. Thus, CIC helps inspire churches to join other area churches to establish weekly children's clubs for child outreach (that meet in a village field or an open space). The clubs are very much like an outreach VBS without any of the frills--but they meet every week with games, teaching Bible lessons that start from Genesis all the way through the NT, teach & spend time in prayer, worship, etc. When churches get this vision, they begin to send out pastoral staff to start "CIC Clubs" in adjoining regions that are mostly unreached peoples. CIC Clubs are therefore mostly to the unreached (more than 65% are Muslim or Animist children). The volunteer staff train club leaders and club children to lead and run the clubs. We have clubs in 16 countries (established) and are in start-up in 3 other countries across Africa--many in the 10/40 window. All of our volunteer staff are committed local ministry workers, many having given up paying jobs to serve the Lord full time--their dedication to the things of Christ, their selfless devotion, their humility, their passion for God's Word, their desire to see all children come to Christ--is truly an inspiration to me. The only non-Africans here with CIC are me and Terry (the founder) and our whole job is to be the back office that serves and equips the ministry leaders in the field---we have two Americans back in the States helping us with systems.
