• Escaped from slavery on September 17, 1849• Adopted one daughter named Gertrude• Died from pneumonia March 10, 1913 at age 91

• Born February 4, 1913• She was an African American civil rights activist• She was named the first lady by the United States
Congress• She was secretary of the NAACP• She died October 24, 2005
