Weekly Message Dear Parents, This week has been a little quieter in terms of external events, although I must mention Grace Du who travelled to the ABC studios at Ultimo on Wednesday to participate in the state final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee. There were over 40 finalists in the senior section of the competition, and Grace gained a very creditable 7 th place. The standard of spelling and complexity of the words tackled by these 11 and 12 year olds was amazing, and I must admit that I was challenged by many of them. Well done Grace and congratulations on your spelling prowess and your poise under pressure as such a worthy representative of our school. Also on Wednesday, our Year 6 Peacekeepers held a mufti day to raise funds to support their recognition excursion later this term. The Peacekeepers provide a very valuable service in student well being in our school, with members on duty in the playground every day. They nprovide advice and support to students in solving disagreements, making decisions around game rules and ensuring that all students are safe and happy in our playground. We thank them for the great work that they do in our school. Congratulations are in order for Mrs Neaves, who this week received confirmation of her gaining the Assistant Principal’s position here at Wollongong PS. This was the vacancy created by the departure of Mr Campbell earlier this year and I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Mrs Neaves on her appointment. On Tuesday night our P&C had their monthly meeting, and we discussed fundraising plans for the remainder of this year and also for 2018. I also shared with them an outline of our school plan for the next three years and sought some initial feedback around parent concerns or requests for that plan. This will be an ongoing discussion with P&C so if you would like some input. Please come along to our next meeting. Weekly Message Dear Parents,

This week has been a little quieter in terms of external events, although I

must mention Grace Du who travelled to the ABC studios at Ultimo on

Wednesday to participate in the state final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee.

There were over 40 finalists in the senior section of the competition, and

Grace gained a very creditable 7th place. The standard of spelling and

complexity of the words tackled by these 11 and 12 year olds was amazing,

and I must admit that I was challenged by many of them. Well done Grace

and congratulations on your spelling prowess and your poise under pressure

as such a worthy representative of our school.

Also on Wednesday, our Year 6 Peacekeepers held a mufti day to raise

funds to support their recognition excursion later this term. The

Peacekeepers provide a very valuable service in student well being in our

school, with members on duty in the playground every day. They nprovide

advice and support to students in solving disagreements, making decisions

around game rules and ensuring that all students are safe and happy in our

playground. We thank them for the great work that they do in our school.

Congratulations are in order for Mrs Neaves, who this week received confirmation of her gaining the

Assistant Principal’s position here at Wollongong PS. This was the vacancy created by the departure of

Mr Campbell earlier this year and I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Mrs Neaves on her

appointment.

On Tuesday night our P&C had their monthly meeting, and we discussed fundraising plans for the

remainder of this year and also for 2018. I also shared with them an outline of our school plan for the next

three years and sought some initial feedback around parent concerns or requests for that plan. This will

be an ongoing discussion with P&C so if you would like some input. Please come along to our next

This morning we had a very moving commemoration for Remembrance Day (November 11) which falls

tomorrow. Two of our school leaders acknowledged the sacrifice paid by many Australians in war over

the years and we held a minute’s silence in their honour.

Tonight is of course Movie Night and we are looking forward to a relaxing time in the hall watching

School of Rock and munching on popcorn! Tickets are still available at the door, which will open at

6.00pm for families to claim their spot for pillows and blankets etc with the film starting at 7.00.

Next Monday Stage 2 are going to Elizabeth Farm at Rose Hill as part of their learning about early

European settlers in Australia. It is a very big day and Stage 2 students are reminded that they need to be

at school by 7.30 am so that they do not miss the bus! Students are expected home by 3.30pm.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the work of Mr Summerfield, our General Assistant, who, this week has

been erecting some new seating around the gardens between A and B Blocks. He has used the garden

edges as framework for the seats, which he designed and built himself.

Thanks Mr Summerfield!

Have a happy and safe weekend.

Kind regards,

Harold Cosier Principal

‘THUNDER ROCK’ Band

Due to their hard work and commitment, Ava, Keeleigh, Matthew and Akira qualified to perform at Hurstville Entertainment Centre in the Music Bus Band Slam National Competition.

On Sunday 5th November, their band 'Thunder Rock' performed Katy Perry's 'Chained to the Rhythm'. The children thoroughly enjoyed the stage experience as their proud families cheered on, waving 'Thunder Rock' signs! We were all impressed with the extraordinary talent from the Wollongong region.
