Skinner Named SoCon Player of the WeekLee Skinner was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 7-13 ... Skinner recorded separate career-highs in two games through the week ... He recorded a personal-best 28 points in Wofford’s 79-75 overtime win against The Citadel and followed that performance with a career-high 15 rebounds as the Terriers fell at Chattanooga 70-69 ... Skinner recorded double-doubles in each game, averaging 19.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and shooting 53.6 percent from the field ... He added seven assists and a blocked shot in two games.

Mixing Up the StartersThe Terriers used eight different line-ups in 2013-14 ... The starting line-up of Eric Garcia, Karl Cochran, Spencer Collins, Lee Skinner, and C.J. Neumann ended the season at 4-1 ... In 2012-13, Wofford used nine starting line-ups in the 32 games ... Freshmen C.J. Neumann, Spencer Collins, and Justin Gordon had starts last season ... In 2011-12, the Terriers used six different starting line-ups with a total of 11 different players getting starts, including four freshmen.

Garcia Earns a Starting RoleAs a freshman, Eric Garcia started the season opener at Georgia ... He played for 34 minutes with three assists and three points, committing only two turnovers at point guard ... He started 26 games at the point, missing two games due to injury ... He scored 7.3 points per game and was second on the team in assists with 78 ... He had only 29 turnovers on the season.

Eric’s Point PlayEric Garcia had 78 assists and 29 turnovers in 2013-14 for an assist/turnover ratio of 2.7 ... The gold standard for Wofford point guards is Brad Loesing, a 2012 graduate who started 130 career games in his four years ... As a freshman, Loesing played in 30 games for 788 minutes and had 88 assists and 70 turnovers ... For his career, Loesing had 15 games where he did not turn it over ... Garcia had 13 games where he did not turn the ball over his freshman season alone ... He played in 31 games for 825 minutes .

The Lone SeniorThe lone senior this season for the Terriers was forward Aerris Smith ... A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Smith played in 31 games last season with 11 starts ... He averaged 1.5 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game, but his leadership on and off the court was immeasurable ... Minutes after Wofford won the 2014 SoCon Tournament Championship, Smith revealed in a radio interview to the Wofford IMG Sports Network that he would not be participating in the NCAA Tournament, because he was scheduled to have surgery on his knee ... Smith played with the injury all season and his radio interview went viral, getting picked up by numerous media outlets including Sports Illustrated, ESPN and CBS Sports.

A Balanced TeamThe Terriers primarily used nine players last season and no player saw more than 32 minutes on the floor per game ... Nine played 10 minutes or more ... Karl Cochran paced the team with 15.7 points per game, but then six players averaged four or more points.

Owning the SoConOver the past six years (2008-09 season to 2013-14 season), Wofford has the second-most wins in the Southern Conference ... Davidson led the way (87-21), followed by the Terriers (71-37), Western Carolina (61-47), Chattanooga (54-54), and Appalachian State (54-54) ... Wofford also has three Southern Conference titles in the last six seasons, while Davidson only has two and Chattanooga has one ... With Davidson no longer in the league (Atlantic 10), the Terriers now own the most wins over the past six seasons heading into 2014-15.

The DefenseThe Terriers again led the way in scoring defense among SoCon teams ... Wofford allowed just 62.2 points per game, with Georgia Southern a distant second with 70.4 points allowed ... Keys to this are field goal percentage defense (44.8 pct.) which was fourth in the league, and three-point percentage defense (32.0 pct.), which was first among SoCon teams ... Wofford held opponents to under 45 percent from the floor in 18 games, including 12 of the last 17 ... The Terriers also held opponents to under 40 percent from three in 13 of the last 18 games.

Taking the ThreeIn the 2013-14 season, Wofford took 544 three-pointers, which accounted for 30.1 percent of all shots taken by the team ... They made 5.9 three-pointers per game, which was seventh in the Southern Conference ... Ten different players ended the year with at least one made three.

SoCon Road WarriorsThe Terriers were very successful on the road in conference play, going 6-2 in visiting gyms and 3-0 on neutral courts ... This was a big improvement over the 2012-13 season in which the team was 1-8 on the road in conference play.

Dominating the Non-Conference at HomeSince the start of the 1999-2000 season, Wofford has posted a record of 47-4 (.922) in home non-conference games ... The only blemishes were a 66-62 loss to East Car-olina in 2005-06, a 64-49 loss to South Carolina in November, 2001, a 72-66 loss in overtime to Air Force on November 24, 2010, and a 63-60 loss to William & Mary on December 7, 2013 ... However, the loss to William & Mary last season puts Wofford’s current home winning streak at just two games.

Set to enter his 26th year on campus, including his 13th as head coach, Mike Young has built the Wofford College basketball program into an NCAA Tourna-ment fixture. With Southern Conference championships in 2010, 2011 and 2014, Wofford is one of 53 programs nationally to reach the NCAA Tournament at least three times in the last five seasons. The Terriers have totaled four postseason appearances and three 20-win campaigns over the last five seasons. A two-time SoCon Coach of the Year, Young has also received national recognition as the Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year by CollegeIn-sider.com. During his distinguished tenure, Young has seen many Terriers go on to play professionally. He has coached Olympian Mike Lenzly, All-American Noah Dahlman, Academic All-American Brad Loesing and 15 All-SoCon selections. Under Young’s leadership, the Terriers’ resume includes impressive non-conference wins over the likes of Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia, Purdue, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Wake For-est. Young believes in playing the best competition. A recent Wofford non-conference schedule was ranked as the most difficult in the nation by the RPI and Sagarin Ratings. The success Young has achieved on the court has complemented his emphasis on academics. Young’s program has a 100 percent graduation rate for stu-dent-athletes who have completed their eligibility at Wofford. One of the defining characteristics of Young’s pro-gram is the family atmosphere, evidenced by current assistant coaches Tim Johnson and Kevin Giltner both of whom wore the Terrier uniform. Newly announced Director of Basketball Operations, Drew Gibson, is also a former Wofford student-athlete. Young has seen a total of six players remain in the program, after their playing days, as members of his staff. The last five seasons have seen Wofford emerge as the dominant SoCon program. Young’s first postseason team, in 2009-10, tied a school record with a 13-game winning streak. It was part of a stretch that saw the Terriers win 22 of 24 games en route to a school-record 26 victories, including a 15-3 mark in league play. The Terriers won the SoCon South Division title and the tournament championship for the first time.

Wofford came back the next season with a share of the SoCon South Division title and another conference tournament championship. Prior to assuming the head coaching reins at Wof-ford, Young was an assistant coach to current athletics director Richard Johnson. Young’s 189 victories rank third on the Terriers’ all-time win list. His impact as a head coach was seen immediately. In his first season in charge, Young led the Terriers to their best record in eight seasons on the Division I level and a third-place finish in the SoCon South Division after Wofford was predicted to finish sixth. Young’s time at Wofford has spanned four decades and covered the Terriers moving from NCAA Division II to Division I Independent in 1995-96 and to the Southern Conference in 1997-98. He was promoted to associate head coach in August 1998. Young has been on the Wofford bench for 726 contests over the past 25 seasons. It’s all about the student-athlete experience for Young. Every player means the world to him, and it’s not just those 15 All-SoCon selections (Lenzly, Dahlman, Johnson, Loesing, Giltner, Tyler Berg, Ian Chadwick, Lee Nixon, Howard Wilkerson, Drew Gibson, Junior Salters, Cameron Rundles, Jamar Diggs, Karl Cochran and Lee Skinner). Chadwick (2000-01) and Dahlman (2010-11) have been SoCon Players of the Year, while Dahlman was the SoCon Tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer in back-to-back seasons (2010, 2011). Cochran received the honor in 2014. Young’s influence on incoming players has been seen with seven Terriers appearing on the All-SoCon Freshman Team (Chadwick, Berg, Loesing, Cochran, Justin Stephens, Spencer Collins, Eric Garcia). Chad-wick (1997-98) and Cochran (2011-12) were SoCon Freshmen of the Year. In 2012, each of our the program’s five graduates (Drew Crowell, Kevin Giltner, Brad Loesing, Joseph Tecklenberg and Matt Steelman) were named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team. A native of Radford, Va., Young came to Wofford after serving as a graduate assistant for one year under Oliver Purnell at Radford University. A 1986 graduate of Emory & Henry College, he was a four-year let-terman in basketball for coach Bob Johnson and the team captain his junior and senior seasons. He credits Johnson for having a major influence on his playing and coaching careers. Upon his graduation, Young became a full-time assistant coach for two years at Emory & Henry before moving on to Radford. Another mentor in his coach-ing philosophies is Fletcher Arritt, longtime coach of Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy. Young played one season for him before attending Emory and Henry. Young and his wife, Margaret, were married on Aug. 13, 1994 in her hometown of Camden, S.C. She is a 1992 Wofford graduate and a partner with Pricewater-houseCoopers LLP. The couple has a daughter, Cooper, and a son, Davis.
