becoming the rule, not justthe exception! You guys areall amazing and should bevery proud of your work.

So what do ya say?Let’s get to the May 2007issue.

Gus’ CorsairThis plane was built by anew reader by the name ofGus Hampton from scratchusing my own molds for thefuselage, cowl, canopy, wheel and brake hubs etc.Gus also machined theretracts and struts andinvestment-casted the scis-sor links. The cockpit wasbuilt completely fromscratch and he used a fiber-

glass wing center sectionand radome built by MikeMcIntyre. The fuselage plugwas done by Lee Cundiff.Gus’ Corsair started out asa practice plane to keepfrom damaging its prede-cessor while he waslearningto handle scale aircraft.Unfortunately, the scale-bug bit him hard during thebuild process and he justcouldn't resist adding adetailed cockpit, fuinctionalfolding wings, operationalcowl flaps, a tail hook andcanopy.

The model has a 75"wingspan, weighs 22 lbsand uses an OS BGX upfront. It has 17 servos and

is controlled by a JRPCM10 SXII. Gus’ firstCorsair was the same F4U-5NL Corsair except in ablack scheme with a built-up center section. The firstplane took 7 years becausehe had to create all of themolds and design all of theelectronics himself (cowlflaps, landing gear andwing-fold electronic con-trollers). “Annie Mo” tookabout 1.5 years to com-plete. Gus has been build-ing model planes since hewas about 10, and havebeen a U.S. Scale Mastersflight judge for about 15years.

Lee’s SE5aGood friend and Top GunJudge, Lee Henderson sentin this nice photo of hisnewest project he recentlycompleted, an RAF SE5a. It

is from Rich Uravitchplans. He stopped, restart-ed, stopped and restartedmany times but figured thiswinter he’d finish it. It hasa G-38 for power, is coveredin SolarTex and has Latexpaint, some markings arepainted and some are MajorDecals. It weighs about 22pounds, pilot was paintedby his wife Deanie. Leemade many changes to theplans and added quite a fewdetails to make it a littlemore scale, like the wind-screen and gun-sight thatare made of brass tube and

sheet. The exhaust is func-tional. The overflow fuellines on the top wing aremade from copper tubingwith hose clamps madefrom sheet brass and heatshrink tubing. The SE5a asnot flown as yet. Hope youenjoy the pictures.

Gerry’s CamelHere’s my newest warbird,a little Sopwith Camel ARFfrom Powerline Hobbies. This 37.5 inch span classicis powered by an 28mmoutrunner electric motorand features a pull-pullrudder and elevator control, all included for less than$200. Flies great!

Well, so much for yetanother issue, Next monthI’ll have a bit more to writeabout as I’ll have some war-bird info from the Toledoshow! Have a safe and funspringtime, and get thosewarbird ready for a new fly-ing season.
