Lesson 1

Objective of Lesson #1 is to introduce the five pillars and there importance

in our everyday lives, and to emphasis the oneness of Allah, and to show

how the oneness of Allah is an absolute oneness.

Knowledge is sought as a means to Allah

The Amir al-Mu'minin, Abu Hafs 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "I heard the

Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'Actions

only go by intentions. Everyone gets what they intend. Anyone, therefore,who emigrates to Allah and His Messenger, his emigration is indeed to

Allah and His Messenger. But anyone who emigrates to gain something of

this world or to marry a woman, his emigration is to that to which he

emigrated.'" [Agreed to be sound]

He (the Messenger of Allah) said Faith , "It is that you believe in Allah

and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the LastDay, and in fate (qadar 

Six Pillars of Belief(Iman):

1) Belief in Allah

2)Belief in the Angles

3)Belief in the Divine Books

4)Belief in the Messengers sent by Allah

5)Belief in the Day of Judgement6)Belief in the Divine Decree and Destinty

So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no God except Allah” 47:19 Qur’an

Islamic Belief ( Aqeedah) is about one’s relationship with Allah ta’ala.

The basis of Islamic Belief is that there is no Ilah ( God) but Allah.

Steps to know Allah:

The first thing every Morally Responsible person is to know and that is to

know Allah ta’ala. This ‘knowing’ Allah is a two step process the process is

1) to know Allah ta’ala ( ma’rifa), and 2) have affirmation in one’s heart

( tasdiq). The fruit from this is what one’s says does.

What is Aqeedah? That what you firmly believe in

What is Faith ? Everything that the Messenger of Allah ( sall Allahu alaihi

wa sallam) came with that is necessary known of the relgion. Not just

prayer, fasting giving in charity, but includes business dealing and the like.

Knowing Allah ta’ala and reflection on his greatness will help us in having

humility before him so when we Pray we will exalt the one we are praying

to who says in Surah Taha; :  Establish Prayer for my remembrance”20:4.

Conditions for one to be deemed morally responsible:

1)Posse one of the signs of puberty

2)Be of sane mind

3)Message of Islam reach them clearly

How does Allah describe himself in Qur’an:

In Surah al-Iklhas he said:

Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, (1) Allah, the Eternal Refuge. (2) Heneither begets nor is born, (3) Nor is there to Him any equivalent." (4)Qur’an 112:1-4

 A person can to the Messenger of Allah and said, "I love this Surah(Surahal-Iklhas) immensely." The Holy Prophet ( May Allah bless him and give himpeace) replied: "Your love for it will cause you to enter Paradise. " [Ibn

Kathir].

Tirmidhi has recorded on the authority of Sayyidna Abu Hurairah ( May Allah be pleased with him that once the Messenger of Allah ( May Allah bepleased with hiom) asked the people to gather and said:"I shall recite to you a third of the Qur'an?" When the people hadcongregated, he recited Surah al-iklas and said:

"This is equal to a third of the Qur'an." [Muslim].

There is no limitation to Allah
