    Researching Instructions (15%)OverviewThis part of the Learning Portfolio is comprised of three sections: 1) Analysing the Question; 2) ResearchingAnnotated Reference List and 3) Annotated Bibliography.

    Week 6 Workshop and online (Turnitin)900 words

    Presentation and formatStudents are required to download and fill in the assessment template by:1. Filling in all required details on the coversheet2. Typing responses into the blank fields as indicated3. Removing any blank spaces/lines and4. Inserting the required information in the footer.

    All the margins, fonts and spacing are already set so there is no need to make any further adjustments.

    Submission requirementsA hard copy of the assessment is due within the first 10 minutes ofyourassigned workshop in Week 6 alongwith a copy of the Turnitin Originality Report which should be attached to the back of your assignment.

    Assessments will not be accepted without the Turnitin Originality Report. Once the 10 minutesubmission period in the workshop is over, late assignments must be submitted to the School of Marketingsassignment drop box and late penalties of 10% per day will apply, including the day of the workshop.

    Note: A penalty of 10% per day will apply to any submissions to the School of Marketings assignment dropbox irrespective of the time of day.Hard copy is the only method of assignment submission. Turnitin-only submissions will not beaccepted.

    Extension of due date for submissionIf students need to apply for a short extension of time to complete an assessment item they should attach allsupporting documentation to the completed Request for Extension form which is available from StudentCentral, the UWS website or from the Support folder in the BAS vUWS site. Requests for extension must besubmitted no later than three working days prior to the due date of the assessment task to ParramattaCampus, School of Marketing, Building ED (Reception); Campbelltown Campus, School of Marketing Building22A (Bev Booth) or Bankstown Campus (TBA). After that period, requests for extensions will not be acceptedand students will need to apply for special consideration.

    Special considerationIf students need to apply for a special consideration, they should attach all supporting documentation to the

    completed Application for Special Consideration form which is available from Student Central, the UWSwebsite or from the Support folder in the BAS vUWS site. Requests for special consideration must besubmitted to Student Central and no later than two working days afterthe assessment due date.

    Note: Students should note that an application forextension orspecial consideration does not automaticallymean that it will be approved.

    Late submissionA student who submits a late assessment without approval for an extension of the due date will be penalisedby 10 per cent per day up to 10 days, i.e. marks equal to 10 per cent of the assignments weight will bededucted as a flat rate from the mark awarded. For example, the Researching assessment task that is worth15 marks will have 1.5 marks deducted from the awarded mark for each late day including Saturdays andSundays. Assessments will not be accepted after the marked assessment tasks have been returned tostudents who submitted the task on time.

    Section 1: Researching Analysing the Question (10/100)

    This part of the assessment will help students identify how broad or limiting the assessment question is;understand how it is to be presented; and be aware of what specific criteria the essay must adhere to. Assuch, it will help ensure that students understand the assessment question and what is required tosuccessfully research and analyse the subject area and write an academic essay.This section will evaluate what students have learnt in Week 3 Workshop.

    Details: Analysing the question

    Identify the words or phrases that indicate the topic, focus, instructions and limitations of the followingassessment question. Then rewrite the assessment question in your own words without altering its meaning:

    Assessment Question: Using three ethical principles of the Global Business Standards Codex,evaluate the employment practices of Wal-Mart.

    Section 2: Researching Annotated Reference list (40/100)

    This part of the assessment is designed to develop students research skills and ability to record thebibliographic details of various genres of resources including books, scholarly journal articles, and otherpublished material as well as electronic resources related to the topic area. This task also develops studentscritical reading skills as students are required to summarise the resources and evaluate the relevance of theresources to the assessment question.This section will evaluate what students have learnt in Week 4 as well as from the librarys onlinetutorials Successful Searching and Business Information Basics.

    Details: Researching Annotated Reference list

    Students are required to locate and accurately document the bibliographic details of ten (10) resources

    relevant to the assessment question below. You should NOT include any of the 5 resources provided inSection 3 of this assessment task (i.e. DO NOT use any of the five (5) readings found on vUWS in theAssessment subfolder called Five Required Resources). There needs to be a representative sample of bothscholarly and non-scholarly resources from six (6) different genres (newspapers, academic journals, books,websites, etc.). For reference details, students should refer to Chapter 6 in the BAS textbook or the LibrarysCiting Resources (Harvard) on their homepage for advice on the Harvard style of referencing.

    In addition to providing the bibliographic details (the citation) of each reference, students are required toprovide a brief annotation summarising the content and stating in their own words the relevance of eachsource to the essay question. The annotation for each source should be no more than 50 words each.

    To complete this part of the assessment task, it is highly recommended that students complete the homeworktasks for Week 4. Week 4 homework required students to go through the librarys Successful Searchingonline tutorial and complete the corresponding vUWS quiz. This tutorial explains locating items on the readinglist; searching the library catalogue; and obtaining other basic research skills. Once completed, studentsshould progress to the Business Information Basics online tutorial which builds on the foundations establishedwith Successful Searching. Here students are provided with a business-related assignment topic and shownhow to build a bank of relevant information using various business-specific resources.

    Note: All the references may not be appropriate for the final essay, but should demonstrate that you areaware of the various resources available and are able to record the bibliographic details accurately in

    Harvard style.

    Section 3: Researching Annotated Bibliography (50/100)

    An annotated bibliography records the bibliographical details of a source or publication as well as detailing thescope, content and objectives of the resource. This part of the assessment is designed to develop studentsanalytical thinking, reading comprehension skills and ability to identify the relevant information bysummarising, evaluating, and reflecting on the literature.This section will evaluate what students have learnt in Weeks 4 and 5 Workshops.

    Details: Annotated bibliography

    Students are required to annotate one (1) of the five (5) readings found on vUWS in the Assessment subfoldercalled Five Required Resources. The annotation should be 200 words (maximum) and should:

    1. Include the full Harvard Style Reference

    2. Address the 3 following questions surrounding the main argument and research:a. What is the author's thesis or main argument?b. What is the aim of the research and the methodology used? andc. What were the conclusions and limitations of the research?

    3. Address the 2 following questions surrounding usefulness and reflection:a. How does it help us address the question? andb. How will you use the resource?
