KEY CLUBMay 2012

Hello Division 5 Key Clubbers,

I hope everyone is having a great year so far and gearing up for summer. First off, I would like to start with discussing our first DCM of the year.

UPCOMING EVENTSMay is the month of many amazing service projects and new ways you can become involved with your community such as Yell & Tell. The Yell and Tell program is aimed at the young child who sees something dangerous, feels afraid and doesn’t know what to do. Many times this child will run away or be quiet because he/she doesn’t want to get into trouble or be called a tattletale. Sometimes a child is so afraid, he/she is too scared to do anything. The Yell and Tell program teaches children how to take action and be a hero. If you are interested in starting a Yell & Tell program in your local school district send me an email and I can help you set one up.

Also a fun idea for a fundraiser for the upcoming summer season could be a car wash or brat fry. For a car wash just grab your buckets and hoses and get washing. It's an easy way to

make money, just make sure you pick the right location and do lots of advertising. A brat fry can also bring in lots or money, contact a local grocery store or gas station to see if they will let your group do a brat fry on their property. Make sure you get a few adults to run the grill and don't forget to advertise a lot!

And to finish I would just like to say congratulations to all of the graduating seniors, but just because you are graduating doesn't mean you have to be completely done with Key Club. Stay connected and join the Key Club Alumni Association, it's free and open to all alumni. (Link: http://sites.kiwanis.org/Kiwanis/en/Alumni/Key-Club-Alumni/ForKeyClubMembers.aspx )

My congrats also go out to all of the newly elected officers, I know this is going to be a terrific year filled with service and fun.

The Yell and Tell program has been developed by Jean Davidson. When Jean’s 4 year old grandson, Ryder, died in an accident that could have been prevented if the child standing nearby would have known how to react.  Because of this and learning of similar losses, Jean has developed a program called “Yell and Tell."Go to www.yellandtell.com to learn more.
