New Partnership Initiatives…AnewAsthmaClinicopenedMarch8.InternistsfromNorthwestern Memorial Hospital whohavecompletedafellowshipinallergyimmunologywillberunningthismonthlyclinic.
Tofurtherenhancetheservicesavailabletopatientsstrugglingwithasthmaandotherpulmonologyconditions,CommunityHealthwelcomestheRespiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicagoasournewestpartner.RHAMCisprovidinganon-sitehealtheducatortoworkdirectlywiththispatientpopulation.

Thanks to a $200,000 legacy gift from the Louis R. LurieFoundationandCRASHUSA,anOralHealthProgramisnowupandrunningatCommunityHealth.MembercompaniesofCRASHUSA: Admiral Heating, Anning-Johnson, Clune Construction,ContinentalElectric, FlooringResources,GreatLakesPlumbingandHeating andWhitneyDesign donated their services valuedatmorethan$110,000tobuildouttwodentaloperatories,a labandx-rayroom.“BuildingthedentalsuiteatCommunityHealthwasthelargestprobonoprojectforanon-profitorganizationever
undertakenbyCRASHUSA,”saiditspresidentPatSullivan,whoisalsopresidentofSuperiorMechanicalSystems.
Oral Health Program Brings Smiles to the Uninsured
CRASHmemberswereunanimous inwanting to takeon thejobbecausetheybelievesostronglyinthehealthcenteranditsmission.They havemade an invaluable contribution thatwillbenefit patients for years to come. Thanks to the recruitmentof volunteer dentists, hygienists, and assistants, we were abletolaunchtheprogramonDecember2,2009.Thehighlightedquotes are from the February 16, 2010 reception and ribboncutting where more than fifty funders, partners, volunteers,andfriends joinedCommunityHealthincelebratingthegrandopeningoftheoralhealthprogram.

Okema lives on the north side of Chicagoand it takes her one hour and fifteenminutes by public transportation to get toCommunityHealth.Shehasbeenunemployedfor fivemonths; prior to this sheworked asan administrative assistant for a real estateoffice. She looks forward to starting schooltobecomeamedicalassistant.Duetolackofinsurance,ithadbeentwoyearssinceOkemasawadentist.Theresultsofherexamrevealedthefollowing:• Neededtoothextraction• Twofillings• Frontchippedcrown
Okemawaspleasedwiththecareshereceived.“When itwas time topullmy tooth, Ikeptfeeling pain; the doctor was so patient andprovided the medication I needed to feelcomfortable.”Okema said she is happy thatshecangetgoodoralhealthcareandnotjustanemergencyfix.“Itwasagreatexperience.”
Because the dental clinic is not yet a fullservice operation, only exams, cleanings,fillings and extraction services are providedatthistime.Wearelookingtopartnerwithdentallabstoprovidecrowns,bridges,partialsanddentures.
