“Within the one Being that is God, there exists eternally three coequal and coeternal persons,
namely, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
The Trinity
What is it that makes Christianity distinct?
The bedrock of our faith is the identity of the God we worship.
Deut 6:4 “Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
Isaiah 43:10 “Before me no God was formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the Lord…”
Isaiah 44:6 “Thus says the Lord: I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.”
1 Cor 8:4 “There is no God but one.”
Gen 1:26 “God said, ‘let us make man in our image’.”
Isaiah 6:8 “Whom shall I send, who will go for us?”
Psalm 2:7 “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.”
2 Cor 13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
Eph 1:17 “…the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit…”
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.”
Phil 2:6 “Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped…”
Matt 28:19 “…make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

John 17:20-23
I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that
the world may believe that you have sent me.
John 17:20-23I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will
believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in
me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in
them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me
and loved them even as you loved me.
God in our Relationships
The Trinity is the model for unity amongst God’s people
This is particularly true within marriage
1 Cor 11:3 “I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her
husband, and the head of Christ is God.”
John 4:34 “My food is to do the will of him who sent me.”
John 14:26 “…the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name.”
1 Cor 15:28
