Wireless Pressure Monitor The Guardian gives you full time, “In Cycle”, hydraulic pressure monitoring. The Guardian is the simplest monitoring sytem to install and maintain. No transmitter pairing is required -- add new fixtures easily and hassle free. Guardian’s sealed system ensures positive pressure monitoring even in the harshest environments. Best of all, you will enjoy constant pressure monitoring with no interference issues.

Guardian Base System Shown
The Basics Of Guardian Operation:
Step 1. Install Vektek pressure switches on fixture.
Step 2. Find a place on the fixture for your transmitter. Step 3. Find a place on your machine for your receiver.
Step 4. Wire your Control Box with as few as four wires.
Step 5. No more tool crashes!
IT IS THAT SIMPLE.
Attributes & Advantages!
Guardian Base System combined with a Simple System monitors both fixture positions.
What does Guardian read and confirm? The Vektek Guardian Critical pressure monitoring system is designed to confirm pressure is present and notify your machine tool of loss of pressure on a fixture while inside the machine or at the load station.
What if I want to check a pallet before it is shuttled to a machine or before it goes into the machine?
The simplicity of the Guardian allows for additional remote Machine Tool Receiver components to engage with the Fixture Transmitter component to check at any point. You can confirm pressure as a pallet is removed from storage, while it is on the way to the machine or even just before indexing. Just add a system at any point in your pallet travel path.
How does Guardian know what transmitter to read? The Guardian uses focused field communications bubble to monitor a fixed area with limited dimensions. Typically the focused area is within the interior of a machine tool enclosure. The Guardian Receiver is typically mounted toward the top of the enclosure pointed down toward the fixture and its transmitter. Once the fixture and transmitter enter the focused field it is actively monitored (As shown in the illustration).
How do I “pair” a transmitter to receiver? The Guardian critical pallet pressure monitoring system does not need to be paired with the Fixture Transmitter Unit component. The focused field communication bubble engages once the components enter the focused field. This allows for simple addition of any fixture with a pressure switch and Guardian transmitter.
Why are the transmitters unpaired? The reason for “unpaired” transmitters is the normal limit of number of allowable paired transmitters works against you. This number may be limited to a maximum of 8/12/24 or 32 paired (or readable) units. The Guardian has unlimited reading rights to its unpaired transmitters. Only one unit within the focused field can be read at one time, however thousands of transmitters may be brought into reading range over time WITHOUT the time effort and inconvenience of “pairing.” The basic function is not to see ALL the transmitters, only to WATCH the transmitter while in the machine or load station!
What about battery failures? The Guardian Fixture Transmitter component has no batteries, so you will never need to be concerned about battery replacement or maintenance. The Fixture Transmitter component is powered by the Guardian Machine Tool Receiver using advanced energy harvesting technology. The Receiver component generates power by any local source (Machine tool, or external transformer) offering 10-36 VDC.
Things to Consider1. Where are the M-Code terminals on your machine, and do you have any available?
2. Where are the Feed-Hold or E-Stop terminals, are they open or will you need to tie into currently dedicated E-Stop, Feed Hold relays?
3. Is your machine positive or negative case ground (which is switched on/off)?
4. What length of cables is going to be necessary to mount the Machine Tool Receiver to the Master Control Component?
5. For the best visibility to the status display, where will the Guardian Master Control Unit be mounted?
6. Where will you pull the power for the Master Control Unit?
7. What placement location in the machine enclosure will you put the Guardian Receiver that is clear from being hit by the pallet or spindle?
8. Where will you locate the Guardian Fixture Transmitters on your pallet that is visible to the focused field?
9. What is the critical pressure lower limit at which you want the machine to stop?
10. Will you need help from your Machine Tool Distributor’s service staff or does your staff have the ability to install the Guardian?

Mounting Considerations ForInstalling Fixture Transmitter
The Fixture Transmitter should be mounted for line of sight communication to the Machine Tool Receiver. Due to the ability of the Guardian to identify the Fixture Transmitter under interrogation, the units should be mounted to provide the best possible clear path of communication and within 6 feet of the Machine Tool Receiver. The Guardian units should be mounted so they do not obstruct machine operation or are directly subjected to high pressure coolant spray. The label on the front of the Machine Tool Receiver should face the monitor area where the Fixture Transmitter will be located. The Focused Field of Communication is broadcast from the face of the Machine tool receiver in the direction of the label. For multiple hydraulic circuit fixtures, 2 and 4 circuit transmitters are also available.

The illustrations shows the BEST transmitter locations; however, only one Fixture Transmitter per fixture is acceptable.
How do I set the pressure switch to notify my Guardian that pressure is below the critical set point?
The pressure switch needs to be set to the predetermined “critical pressure” where part quality or stability may be affected. If your system pressure is 4000 psi and there is a minimum pressure to make good parts at 3000 psi, it should be set to send an alarm just above the 3000 psi reading. Note: The pressure needs to be falling when the switch is adjusted to break continuity at some level above 3000. It is unreliable to set the declining pressure by adjusting while pressure is rising. Likewise, it is not recommended that pressure is adjusted too close to the operating pressure as temperature fluctuation may cause a false loss of pressure signal (we recommend at least 3-500 psi allowable drop from the stable pressure after adiabatic fluctuation is stable.)
Guardian Maintenance
The entire Guardian system is designed to be nearly maintenance free. With the exception of a 1.5A fuse to protect the Master Control and the Machine Tool Receiver, all of the units require no periodic maintenance. Vektek does suggest that the face of the Master Control Unit be cleaned periodically with a mild cleaner (i.e. glass cleaner) to remove foreign matter from the screen. The Fixture Transmitter and Master Tool Receiver should be inspected occasional to check for damage to the enclosures. If they are damaged, they should be replaced. Coolant penatration could cause unreliable operation.
Simple Model1. Wire the Simple Guardian (only 4 wires) to the M-Code terminals that you want to call to check in your program.
2. Adjust the pressure switch to send a fault signal at critical pressure when pressure is falling.
3. Write the “call” into your program as often as you want to monitor, typically done during tool changes to reduce demand on production time. Base Model1. Wire the Base Guardian (only 6 wires) into the Feed Hold, E-Stop, or In-Cycle circuit of your machine. Alternately, you can use M-Code terminals and a program call.
2. Adjust the pressure switch to send a fault signal at critical pressure when pressure is falling.
3. Guardian will activate the Feed Hold or E-Stop as necessary if an unpressurized pallet is in the Focused Field. If an M-Code is used, a line of code must be added to check as often as necessary.
Note: Base models require an “in-cycle” signal which tells Guardian to “watch-me-now.” This allows the machine to index without sending a fault signal. During the indexing function there is a period during which neither pallet is within or closest to the Focused Field which is prevented within the Guardian program by the lack of an “in-cycle, watch-me-now” signal.

Base Guardian
The Base Guardian system requires six wires and continuously monitors only the pallet in the machining envelope. The pallet being loaded is ignored during the unload/reload process until it enters the machine. Once inside the machine enclosure, Guardian monitors the pallet as often as your control requests the confirmation signal. You can set the interval between signals via simple M-code queries. Accomplish immediate full-time machine communication by wiring directly into a feed-hold or e-stop control.
