Overview

Overview

FeaturesThe CBK-WA100/CBK-WA101 Wireless Adapter is the wireless adapter that connects the Solid-State Memory Camcorder (called “camcorder” in this document) such as PMW-500/400/300/200/160/150 or Portable Memory Recorder (called “recorder” in this document) such as PMW-50 to a computer or mobile device via wireless LAN, or connecting to the 3G/4G/LTE line and sending files via Internet.

Remote operation of the camcorder/recorder via a wireless LANYou can operate a camera or media of a camcorder/recorder remotely from a smartphone/tablet/computer that is connected to the wireless adapter via a wireless LAN.

Creating and recording a proxy fileThe wireless adapter creates a proxy file (low resolution) and records it on an SD card that is inserted into the wireless adapter, from the video and audio signals that are shot or played on the camcorder/recorder and are input from the HD-SDI connector. The created file is called “XAVC® Proxy.”Recording starts/stops automatically by interlocking to the camcorder/recorder with the Rec/Stop control signals that are included on the HD-SDI signals.

Uploading a file via a 3G/4G/LTE line, wireless LAN, or wired LANYou can upload a proxy file (low resolution) that is recorded on an SD card or original file (high resolution) that is recorded on the camcorder/recorder to a server on the Internet via a 3G/4G/LTE line, wireless LAN, or wired LAN.

Monitoring the video of a camcorder/recorder via a wireless LANThe wireless adapter can create a stream (H.264) from the video of a camcorder/recorder. You can monitor the video stream by using the “Content Browser Mobile” application that is installed on the smartphone/tablet/computer via wireless LAN.

“Content Browser Mobile” application*You can operate a camcorder/recorder remotely by monitoring the audio/video of the camcorder/recorder, and perform the settings of the wireless adapter from a smartphone/tablet using the “Content Browser Mobile” application.

* For details about the “Content Browser Mobile” application, contact your Sony dealer or a Sony service representative.

Streaming the video/audio of a camcorder/recorder via a 3G/4G/LTE line, wireless LAN, or wired LANThe wireless adapter can create a stream (H.264/AAC-LC compression) from the video/audio of a camcorder/recorder. You can watch the video/audio streaming via a 3G/4G/LTE line, wireless LAN, or wired LAN.

Note

If you start streaming, proxy recording and file transferring cannot be performed.

High quality streaming transmission function with Sony’s QoS TechnologyThe wireless adapter can perform high quality streaming transmission and file uploading via CCM when using the wireless adapter by connecting to the Connection Control Manager (called “CCM” in this document) of Sony Network RX Station PWS-100RX1 (optional).

Note

If you set the network client mode that performs streaming with Sony’s QoS Technology to on with the proxy recording enabled, the streaming bit rate is limited depending on the proxy recording setting. The file uploading stops when starting streaming.

Operations

Recording the Video/Audio of a Camcorder/RecorderYou can create a proxy file* from the video and audio signals that are input from the SDI IN connector. You can then record the proxy file on an optional SD card by interlocking to the recording start/stop operation of a camcorder/recorder that is compatible with the wireless adapter.

* When the proxy file is recorded automatically by interlocking to a camcorder/recorder that is compatible with the wireless adapter, the proxy file inherits the information and size from the original file. When the proxy file is recorded manually, or recorded by a device that is not compatible with the wireless adapter, the proxy file does not inherit the information and size from the original file.

PreparationsThis section explains about an SD card that is used for recording, and the format setting for the proxy file.

Usable SD CardsSDXC memory card* (Speed Class: 4 or higher)SDHC memory card (Speed Class: 4 or higher)

* Indicated as “SD card” in these Operating Instructions.

Recommended Sony SD cards• SDXC/SDHC UHS-I memory card (Class 10)• SDXC/SDHC memory card (Class 4)• SDHC memory card (Class 10)• microSDXC/microSDHC UHS-I memory card (Class

10)• microSDHC memory card (Class 4)

Operations are not guaranteed for all the memory cards.

Note

The wireless adapter cannot format an SDHC card as exFAT or an SDXC card as FAT32.

Inserting an SD card

Important Notes on Operation

Use and storage locationsStore in a level, ventilated place. Avoid using or storing the adapter in the following places.• In excessive heat or cold (operating temperature

range: 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F))• Remember that in summer in warm climates the

temperature inside a car with the windows closed can easily exceed 50°C (122°F).

• In damp or dusty locations• Locations where the adapter may be exposed to rain• Locations subject to violent vibration• Near strong magnetic fields• Close to radio or TV transmitters producing strong

electromagnetic fields.• In direct sunlight or close to heaters for extended

periods

Do not subject to strong shocksDo not drop the adapter or subject it to strong shocks. The adapter may be damaged.

Do not wrap in a cloth or other covering during operationInternal temperatures may rise, causing malfunctions.

MaintenanceClean the cabinet and panels by wiping lightly with a soft, dry cloth. If they are very dirty, use a cloth dampened with a small amount of neutral detergent, then wipe dry. Avoid the use of volatile solvents such as thinners, alcohol, benzene, and insecticides. They may damage the surface finish or cause it to peel off.

TransportWhen transporting the adapter by truck, ship, or air, or whenever it may be handled as freight, always pack it in the original protective packaging, after removing the camcorder, adapter, and cables from the camcorder support.

TransferAvoid transferring the camcorder/recorder and the adapter as mounted on the camcorder/recorder. Before transfer, dismount the camcorder from the camcorder

support. Otherwise the adapter may fall off the camcorder support during transfer, causing injury.

On condensationIf the unit is suddenly taken from a cold to a warm location, or if ambient temperature suddenly rises, moisture may form on the outer surface of the unit and/or inside of the unit. This is known as condensation. If condensation occurs, turn off the unit and wait until the condensation clears before operating the unit. Operating the unit while condensation is present may damage the unit.

Life expectancy of the electrolytic capacitorThe life expectancy of the electrolytic capacitor is about 5 years under normal operating temperatures and normal usage (8 hours per day; 25 days per month). If usage exceeds the above normal usage frequency, the life expectancy may be reduced correspondingly.

FragmentationIf pictures cannot be recorded/reproduced properly, try reformatting the SD card. After repeatedly recording/playback with an SD card for an extended period, files on the SD card may be fragmented, preventing proper recording/storage. In such a case, make a backup of clips from the SD card, then reformat it.

Note when using the batteryWhen supplying power to the wireless adapter from the BP-U60T Battery Pack, be sure that the battery power is fully charged before using the wireless adapter.
