    Wintotal Overview

The WinTotal software is a label management program. It is a powerful package that makeswire marker printing simple in an industrial environment.

WinTotal is designed to print Tyco Electronics identification products. System Six/Critchley,System 90 and System 2000 product lines are pre-loaded to fac ilitate marker design.

The fields on WinTotals standard products can be modified, creating customized userproducts. Entirely new products also can be added to the software.

WinTotal features a highly graphic al user interface to simplify operator training and minimizeerrors. All functions can be easily accessed using Windows' pull-down m enus. Many of thecommonly used functions can also be accessed with on-screen buttons.

The Windows environment gives access to a huge array of font options, inc luding non-Englishfonts such as Chinese, Japanese and Hebrew (when used with appropriate operating system sor add-on software).

The software will read files created in Raychem's DOS software, TMS TOTAL, without the needfor any conversion or import process. WinTotal's import function will easily convert mostASCII text files, inc luding LabelCraft files and Excel. WinTotal allows simple importing andmanipulation of graphics, logos and barcodes.

WinTotal will print Raychem TMS System Six/Critchley, System 90 and System 2000 productson all Tyco recommended printers. It also allows the use of standard Windows drivers. Markquality and permanence can not be guaranteed when non-Tyco tested printers and ribbonsare used.

Running behind the simple WinTotal user interface is LabelCraft, a powerful label- makingpackage. The software can be used to design and print general labelling applications suc h asrating plates and shipping labels.

WARNING: Make a backup copy of all data files. Backup copies of data should be maderegularly. It is especially important to make a duplicate copy of existing data beforemanipulating that data in a new software package.

WinTotal user data is contained in multiple files. The SET name assigned in WinTotal will bethe file name for all of the files. The file extensions will be .SET, .IND, .001, .002 .00n(where n is the number of products in the set).

    ASCII Import

Selecting the ASCII Text (A) file format the following options are available

One field per lineMarkers with more than one field (multiple lines or scores) can be separated on different linesusing this option. It may be necessary to also use the Field Separator depending on the filetype.

Skip first lineThis option does not import the first line of a text file. This is useful if the input file containsheader information not required to print .

Import Down AcrossScored markers are read by default from left to right one line at a time or one score at a timefrom top to bottom. This option changes this to left top to bottom then right top to bottom

Ignore Line BreaksThis option ignores all delimiters and line breaks and imports the file as a single list.

Field SeparatorThis allows selection of standard field separator which identify different fields in the input file.

  • Page 26

    Wintotal v4.9.00 - English

There is also an option to select a custom field separator by selecting User Defined andtyping in the required separator.

Quantity Field NoThis option specifies which field in the input file is used for spec ifying the number for the Qtyfield.

Physical Lines pr logicalThis allows the user to create a product with for example 3 lines but only import data on thefirst 2, leaving the last line empty for manual editing.

ASCII File OptionsThe fields within the simple ASCII format can be in a column, separated by carriage returnand line feed. Or a field separator can be specified (suc h as a comma or semi-colon), withthe data for each marker on a single line with a comma (for example) between each text field

Pre-scored entries are read in separate fields, filled in from left to right, one line at a tim e orfrom top to bottom.

Example 1 To create a set with 2 scores (3 fields across) and 2 lines. This exam ple is using the standardTMS import method (From left to right), with the xxx's representing the sc ores and the As,Bs, Cs etc. representing marker data.

    AAAABBBBCCCCDDDDEEEEFFFF

The following (two line) marker, is the result of importing the above data the standardmethod (From left to right), with the Import Down Across box un-checked.

Line 1- AAAA xxx BBBB xxx CCCCLine 2 - DDDD xxx EEEE xxx FFFF

Note that the Export function works in the same sequence.

The example above would look different with the Import Down Across option enabled

Line 1- AAAA xxx CCCC xxx EEEELine 2 - BBBB xxx DDDD xxx FFFF

    Example 2

To create a set with 2 lines of data per m arker and 4 separate markers, the import file wouldlook something like the file below and One field per line option would be checked.

    COMMS (XMT) Import

Comms (XMT) files are fully specified input files. They c ontain Set Name, Set Description,Product, Font and Data and Quantities. This allows the user to im port the correct datawithout mistakes.

There are however some options allowing the user to override the XMT file.

Value of font in XMT file given is physical CPI This makes the font code value the CPI value

Use this font This option overrides the XMT file specified font with a chosen font.

Horizontal AlignThis option allows the text to be horizntally aligned to Left, Center or Right.

Vertical AlignThis option allows the text to be vertically aligned to Top, Center or Bottom

BoldArial and Courier New fonts are available with a bold option whic h gives a darker mark when

printed. This is recommended for most applications.

Underline 6 and 9Arial and Courier New fonts are available to underline 6's and 9's. ie 6 and 9 this allows thecorrect orientation of the character to be determ ined.

Import Down AcrossScored markers are read by default from left to right one line at a time or one score at a timefrom top to bottom. This option changes this to left top to bottom then right top to bottom

Import into productsThis allows the user to select another product than the one in the XMT file.

User ProductThis allows the user to select a User Defined Product.

COMMS (XMT) Files OptionsComms or XMT files can be created to import data, product, font, colour, quantities andfilename to be created in a set automatically.

One file can be created to create one set with up to 100 different products in. The set name to be created is generated from the XMT file name. There are 6 or 7 recordtypes in each of these files.

System Id. Record This is the first line in the file. It must contain TMS90 in positions 1- 5.

File Header Record This is the second line and must contain a 9 in position 1. Positions 2-101 contain the setdescription field, if required

Product RecordThis is the third line and must contain an 8 in position 1 for a Standard produc ts or 4 for a User Defined LayoutPosition 2-21 should contain the product desc ription. See List Standard Products for productcodesPosition 22 should contain the COMMS (XMT) Color Codes Position 23-24 should contain the COMMS (XMT) Printer Embedded Font Codes or the COMMS(XMT) True Type Font CodesPosition 25 should contain an S or D to indicate whether there are entries for one (single) orboth (double) sides of the markers. Positions 26 onwards are only for continuous products used to specify their length. These c anbe set in mm or inches. M is used to identify mm and I is used to identify inches. MM valuesare in to 1 decimal place and Inch values are to 2 dec imal places. Examples 3 shows alloptions for continuous products.

Legend Header RecordPosition 1 must contain a 7 Positions 2-5 contain a 4-digit quantity (valid range 0001-9999) indic ating the number oftimes the following marker data is to be printed for each time the entire list is printed. Therecan be a maximum of 999 Legend Header Recs. for each Product Record.

    Legend Data Record

  • Page 30

    Wintotal v4.9.00 - English

Position 1 must contain a 6. The legend data for a single line or pre-scored section starts atposition 2. The first record in each group, which makes up one complete marker, must followa Legend Header Rec.

Reverse Side Legend Data Record This is the reverse side of the marker (this is only required if D is selected in Product record)and must contain a 0 in position 1. They must come after the front Legend Data Rec ords fora single marker. There must be the same number of front and back records.

End-of-file Record This signifies the last record in the file and must contain a 5 in position 1.

    Export

This function takes data from an existing WinTotal set and creates a text file out of it.

This feature allows users to convert their sets into simple ASCII files. This will allow the datato be imported into other software programs. Options are available to add a file header andseparate fields on a marker with a delimiter (such as a c omma) or output them in a columnwith one field on each line.

The output file name defaults to the set name with the extension TXT. The default locationwill be the current Directories. Both the name and the location can be changed.

An optional Header Information on line 1 will be sent as the file header. The export programplaces the product name and number of lines per marker in the header field. This record fieldcan be changed or deleted.

The sequence in which multiple fields are exported is the same as in the sequence of importedfields. Pre-scored marker fields are read in the following sequence: From left to right, oneline at a time. For example, in a marker with 2 scores (3 fields across) and 2 lines such asthe following (with the xx's being the scores)

AAAA xx BBBB xx CCCCDDDD xx EEEE xx FFFFF

The fields would be output in the following order:AAAABBBBCCCC

    Print Options

The following options are available to Print Current Set, Manual Print and Advanced Printmodes. Defaults settings are created with each product created. These can be user specifiedby using the Print Setup option in the Advanced Printer Setup in the System Setup screen.Products must be assigned to the correct printer for this to function. See Advanced PrinterSetup for more informationThese user options can be overridden at print time by the user if required.

Top MarginThe top margin will default to zero for all printers except the Zebra, T308, T312 and T408thermal transfer printers. It is critical to set this m argin for these printers to mark on thesleeves. The value is dependent upon the marker size and font. It will default to 0.12 inc hes/ 3 mm. The changed value will be saved with the label tem plate. Lowering the top marginvalue will move the text up on the m arker.

Back Side Margin This is the top margin setting for the bottom printer head on the TMS-QLS2001, T612M andT6112DS printers. This is only visible when these printers are selec ted.

Left MarginThe left margin sets the left edge of the printed text. The changed value will be saved withthe label template. Negative values can be entered.

Line SpacingThis option allows the user to increase or decrease the space between lines vertically on amarker. The default spac ing is displayed if more than one line per marker is present. If afigure too large is entered a warning message will appear.

RewindThis option is for Zebra, T308, T312 and T408 thermal transfer printers. This option puts theprinter into rewinder mode, which eliminates the back-and-forth motion of the printer. If theRewind check box is not selected, the printer will run in Tear Off m ode. When the last markeris printed in Tear-Off mode, it will be moved forward, out from under the print head. Printingin Tear Off mode may cause a back-and-forth movement in between groups of printedmarkers.

Swap LinesThis will print multiple lined markers with the lines in reverse sequenc e. For example, a3-lined marker will print line 3 first, line 2 second, and line 1 third.
