WINTHROP FARMERS MARKET As spring gives way to summer and the days grow longer, we are pleased to announce that the Winthrop Farmers Market has returned to French Square in the heart of Winthrop Center!

Our all-volunteer committee has been busy planning the 2016 season and we are excited to unveil an expanded lineup of farms, artists, and vendors. With support from East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, JW’s Restaurant, Highland Real Estate, and the Winthrop Transcript, our

upcoming season will have 10 events, running every other Sunday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, on the following dates:

July 3, July 17, and July 31 August 14 and August 28

September 11 and September 25 October 9 and October 23

The Winthrop Farmers Market provides a unique opportunity for local residents to connect as one strong community, with healthy food, fun crafts, and great music. We will have giveaways, themed markets, and a variety of activities at this years’ market. With the generous support of our community, we were able to provide nearly $2,000 of charitable impact from our events last season – a tradition we hope to continue in 2016!

STREET SWEEPING

The Town of Winthrop conducts Street Sweeping operations on the last full week of the month (last week with a Friday) from April through October on the day of a street's trash collection. If there is a holiday on the week sweeping would normally occur, sweeping is done a week early.

The 2016 street sweeping dates are:

June 20-24 July 25-29

August 22-26 September 26-30

ANNUAL STREET LISTINGS AVAILABLE AT THE TOWN CLERKS OFFICE

Residents can stop by the Town Clerks office at the Town Hall to purchase a copy of Winthrop’s Annual Street Listing. Copies are $15. The Town Hall is open Monday and Wednesday from 8 am – 4 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 am – 7 pm. LISTING OF PERSONS SEVENTEEN YEARS OF AGE OR OVER Chapter 51: Section 6. Street lists Section 6. Except in any city or town as to which it is otherwise provided by special law, the registrars on or before April fifteenth in each year, shall prepare lists containing the names and addresses of all persons seventeen years of age or older listed by them under section four for the current year. Such lists shall be arranged in cities by streets, and in towns by streets or alphabetically by the names of the persons listed, and in cities and in towns of over five thousand inhabitants according to the latest national census, by the smallest subdivision of the city or town for the purpose of voting. On or before June fifteenth in each year, the registrars in all cities and towns shall cause a sufficient number of such lists to be printed, typed or mimeographed so as to furnish, free of charge, such lists, upon request, to all duly organized political committees and to all political candidates of the various districts in which the city or town is located. Such lists shall be made available by the registrars to business organizations and other nonpolitical committees and organizations at a fee to be determined by said registrars, and any such person or authorized representative of an organization or committee obtaining such list shall sign a log, maintained by the city or town clerk, placing in such log their name and address.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

SENIOR CENTER NEWS The Robert A. DeLeo/Winthrop Senior Center is selling raffle tickets to support the purchase of a new van. Tickets are 3/$5.00 or 7/$10.00 and WILL BE SOLD AT THE Senior Center and also at French Square this weekend. There will be one prize of $500.00 and the ticket will be drawn on July 27, 2016 at our Summer Fling Luncheon. Good luck and thanks for your support.

The Council on Aging would like to thank East Boston Neighborhood Health for their generous donation of a defibrillator to the Senior Center. It is a state of the art piece of equipment and they are also going to send one of their nurses over the train the staff. Speaker DeLeo stopped in the morning they presented the defibrillator to us on June 10th along with staff from EBNH, Steven Snyder-VP of Development, Mike Nicastro, Director of Outreach, and Patricia Diaz, Marketing Project Manager. Again, many thanks to EBNH for this generous donation and continued support.

FIND YOURSELF IN A DCR STATE PARK IN JUNE

Revere\East Boston Join a DCR Park interpreter to learn about the wonderful cultural and natural history of your state parks. All programs are free of charge and are open to the public. Programs are suitable for adults and children ages 8 and older but all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by adults. Where indicated, programs are accessible by public transportation and are suitable for persons using a wheel chair. Please pay close attention to exact meeting locations. Rain cancels. Be ready for sunny weather and a breeze off the ocean. We strongly recommend that you apply sunscreen and wear a hat, sunglasses and footwear suitable for walking on the beach, and on paths. There is no need to register for these programs, unless you plan on bringing a group larger than 5 persons. Be a Friend of Sea Animals Beach Cleanup *-Revere Beach Saturday, June 25th 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Adults and children can help marine animals by safely cleaning up the beach using litter grabbers. Please wear close toed shoes and read the last row for additional instructions. Meet at: Bandstand Pavillions adjacent to the beach on Revere Beach Be a Friend of Sea Animals Environmental Games –Revere Beach Saturday, June 25th 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m. Children can play active outdoor games and participate in fun activities while learning how to care for life on our planet Meet at: Bandstand Pavillions adjacent to the beach on Revere Beach Be a Friend of Sea Animals Litter Sculpture Flash Mob Parade *-Revere Beach Saturday, June 25th 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Help prevent the tragedy of sea animals dying from eating litter and/or becoming entangled in fishing line. Especially needed are people with some artistic talent of any level or type-choreography, dance, music, design, acting, cheerleading, juggling etc. Please read the last row for additional instructions. “GYPSY” PRESENTED BY THE WINTHROP PLAYMAKERS OPENS JUNE 18

A cast of over thirty local performers take the stage at Memorial Hall as the Winthrop Playmakers present the beloved musical Gypsy, opening June 18 and running until June 26. Directed and choreographed by Jason Hair-Wynn and musically directed by Cassandra Marsh, this production of Gypsy is one of the largest musicals the Playmakers have presented in recent seasons. Gypsy, with a book by Arthur

Laurents, music by Jules Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, tells the story of Rose, the ultimate stage mother, who has big dreams of Vaudeville stardom for her daughters June and Louise. After stumbling into the world of Burlesque, Louise is thrust into the spotlight and comes into her own as Gypsy Rose Lee, going on to become one of the most famous Burlesque performers of all time. Gypsy stars Susan Wentworth Austin as Rose, Amanda Arruda as Louise, Mike Haddad as Herbie, Amy Oldenquist as Dainty June, and with Haven Pereira as Baby June and Molly Girard as Baby Louise. Also featuring Bianca Marchetti as Tessie Tura, Kathleen O’Connell as Mazeppa, Lauren Amaru as Electra, Tom Kelleher as Tulsa, and Ron Vecchia as Pop. Jason Allen-Forrest, Brian Dion, Scott Forrest-Allen, Damien Dakotah LaCount, Brandyn Perry, Julie R. VETERANS SERVICES NEWS

Many have asked for US Veteran Flag Holders for deceased Veterans graves. Veteran Services expecting a small shipment in soon. The cost is $15.00 each - check payable to Roseann Mazzuchelli as she pre-purchased them. She is not able to get the lower price if ordering according to the various services, hence ordering the US Veteran one.
