Welcome back! It has been 10 months of hard work but we are ready to play again. I would like to thank you all for your patience and support during this renovation. The golf course looks fantastic with the white dunes, green turf and beautiful lakes – it is breathtaking. We also created a short course on the driving range which will be a great place for learning the game as well as just a lot of fun. I want to thank the team of Bill Bergin, Medalist and Kelly Barker and our golf maintenance team who have all worked tirelessly to make it all come together. We are also very pleased with the renovation of the pro shop and Schoony’s of which I would like to thank Karen Schoonover, Dan Hendrix, Kelly May, Ashley Loyd, Steve O’Brien and Greg Calhoun who assisted with the design and the construction of the clubhouse makeover.

The outside of the club house and teaching facility has been painted, new gutters added as well and they look great. We also have completely redone the landscaping and hardscapes at the club house. The back patio will be a very popular place to hang out with friends. I would like to thank Chad Horton for his design of the landscape renovation. It is truly something special. Carter’s “Shed” has been transformed into a state-of-the-art teaching facility that is as good as it gets. Carter now has trackman and V1 Pressure Mat to help with teaching and club fittings. We are now the designated fitting facility for PXG golf and also can fit Titlest and Taylor Made clubs.

I believe we now have the finest facility in the area and are the talk of the town. This has been years in the making and none of this could have ever been possible without the dedication of our current and previous Board of Directors, supportive members and dedicated staff. I hope to see everyone out at the course very soon and I hope you will be as proud of our new club as I am.

On Saturday, October 23, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club (SRGBC) proudly unveiled its beautiful new course and club upgrades following a multi-million-dollar renovation. Local media and club members attended the grand re-opening event and tournament that showcased the new overall course, short course, teaching facility, club house and more. The celebration began with a special ribbon cutting by the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Club President, Robert Reeder and others spoke before the excited crowd.

The grand re-opening day was one for the books. Leading up to reopening, the team at SRGBC had several game-changing surprises up their sleeves.

Jan. 10, 2019 – SRGBC announced plans to break ground on a new short game area at the golf club beginning spring of 2019 with an anticipated opening date of late summer. Selected by Golf Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 10 most innovative people in golf, Bill Bergin of Bergin Golf Designs has been chosen as golf architect for this highly anticipated project.

April 4, 2019 - In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club announced its multi-million-dollar course renovation to break ground the first quarter of 2021. The club has selected Bergin Golf Designs to lead this milestone project.

Dec. 2, 2019 – SRGBC released a video interview showcasing golf course architect, Bill Bergin who unveils what club members and the community can expect when “the new course” opens. Renovations are planned to begin winter of 2021 with a fall 2021 completion date.

July 24, 2020 - Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club is the club to watch in the coming year. SRGBC’s story is unique and began more than 50 years ago with a group of Santa Rosa residents, many of which were military members, and their unified love for golf and sense of community. The club’s founding members

shared a vision for a beautiful, scenic coastal nine-hole golf course and community center. This vision came to life in 1969 and has since seen many changes and expansions. In the past five decades, the club has added a back nine - creating a beautiful 18-hole golf course, a beachfront restaurant – Vue on 30a (formerly known as The Beach Club), a private beach club with pool and beach access and also an expansion of its golf practice areas to include the short game facility which opened in the fall of 2019.

2021 will set a new milestone for this member-owned golf and beach club as they embark on a more than three-million-dollar renovation to its course. Once complete, SRGBC’s new design will be challenging for the most skilled golfers, yet fun and friendly for the recreational player. The club also has plans to renovate its clubhouse during this time.

June 30, 2021 –The club’s staff is also starting to ramp up and re-envision new beginnings. Several new additions were introduced to the management team. Zach Philips will be taking over as the new director of golf and managing the operations at the club. Carter Murchison, former director of golf, has moved to PGA director of instruction. With a

new trackman system in place and enhancements being made to the teaching building, it will provide for the ultimate experience for individuals seeking to learn golf for the first time or simply wanting to step up their game. Other additions to the team include Dan Drake, the new food and beverage director, and Jessica Clark, the new director of member experience.

July 29, 2021 – After more than 50 years, SRGBC unveiled a new and impactful logo to coincide with its course and club renovations. The club and its membership had a strong desire to not only pay tribute to the past but also realize its future. After months of research and design, the club’s board of directors and committees unveiled the what they felt would reflect how the community, members, member experience, club amenities and facilities have evolved – focusing on the unique and shared characteristics of the golf and beach club.

Sept. 13, 2021 – SRGBC announced the transformation of their past teaching building into a sophisticated instruction facility. As part of the renovation of the course and club, this facility provides members with a new learning experience unparalleled to any other instruction facility in the Emerald Coast area.

Dear Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club Members,

October 23, 2021 was one of the best days I have had the pleasure of experiencing at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club. Re-opening this beautiful golf course was amazing. So much work has been done by so many people to make this whole thing a reality. I want to especially thank the Board of Directors, our golf course architect Bill Bergin and our building contractors Medalist Golf. The teamwork and dedication that went into the golf course was truly something great to be a part of.

Fall has come to the area and with that has come a very busy season for private events at Vue on 30a. With many events being moved from the previous year because of COVID, we are looking at our busiest private event season in many years. This means that unfortunately there are many dates, especially Saturday’s, where the Vue will be completely closed or partially closed. While we understand this isn’t always ideal, we want to continue to encourage member usage and thank each of you for your support. We have extended Member’s night with the 35% discount to include Friday. While I am sure this will prove to be very popular, we ask to please remember to make reservations so that we can make it the best experience for everyone on that night.

In the last few months, the club has been able to promote some very deserving employees. The first of those is Allison Ragan. Allison has been with us for almost 6 years and is transitioning from Office Manager to the Director of Club Accounting. Allison is such a valuable resource to the rest of the staff of the club and is great at handling

member inquiries. The second promotion is for Orville “Eddie” Edmundson to Sous Chef. Eddie has been a stalwart of the kitchen staff and will be able to take on more responsibility and become even more of an asset to Chef Isley and the rest of the kitchen. The last promotion is Gustavo McCalla to an Assistant Superintendent for Golf Course Maintenance. Gustavo has been with us for sometime and has worked very hard to move up the ranks. Before this promotion he was our irrigation tech with day-to-day responsibility for all irrigation systems. Please join me in congratulating on of these employees.

We all keep saying this, but this is such an exciting time for the club. What we are accomplishing at this time will set up the club for a bright and successful future. As always thank you all for being members of Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club. The growth and the ability to re-invest back into the club is direct result of your continued support.

Sincerely,

I have had the distinct honor of serving members of Santa Rosa for more than seven years and have seen many exciting changes along the way. While I’ve had the opportunity to work at a few spectacular resort locations in the Panhandle and beyond prior to my time here, not a single experience tops how great this club is today.

Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club is different than any other club in our area because it is owned by its equity members. As many have learned, what this means exactly is that Santa Rosa Club has heart and soul. Santa Rosa is completely and wholly dedicated to improving the experience and lifestyle of its members and we have seen time and time again the saying come to pass…if there is a will there is a way. The grit and love that the club radiates is unmatched.

Now, from time to time I am asked, what members have been at the club the longest and who they are. I’d like to take that question a step further and recognize club members who have held membership for 30 years or more. These members have some of the best stories in town and have seen so many changes to the club along the way. Thank you to the following members for their loyalty and support throughout the years:

JAMES AND DORIS BREENMEMBERS FOR 54 YEARS

LYNN STONEMEMBER FOR 41 YEARS

Without the members, the hard work put in and the stories of old, Santa Rosa would be just like every other place but it’s not. Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club is the talk of the town and the future

has never looked so bright.

IN CASE YOU MISSED ITSRGBC is governed by its ByLaws and membership capacities are enforced for the enjoyment of the club’s membership to ensure ease of access to amenities. At this time, membership is sold out and wait lists are full. As excitement for the new facilities are at an all-time high, we are seeing less attrition and are unable to accept names for our wait lists at this time.

The Loop, designed by Golf Architect, Bill Bergin, is a 6-hole short course situated on six acres just steps away from Santa Rosa’s clubhouse and teaching facilities.

A growing trend for the seasoned golfer, but also inviting to those new to the game, The Loop is a place for practice, training and also to put the rules aside for an hour and have a little fun.

Founded in 1969, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club’s roots began as a 9-hole golf course, creating a playing loop from the beautiful beaches along 30A and back.

Available to golf members only and their accompanied guests at no cost on Friday and Sunday afternoons as allowed and directed by the professional golf staff.

Have a little fun every day.

The Sassy Sisters kicked off Season Six with a Celebration Of Our Inner Child in a Carnival by the Sea setting. This group was formed in 2016 to enhance the enjoyment of female members, and provides a range of social opportunities as well as educational presentations, day trips, outdoor adventures, cultural events and philanthropic

projects. Our season runs from September through March. Following a year of limited get togethers, it was truly a celebration of having some fun together and getting to know a lot of new Sassy Sisters.

In addition to fostering a sisterhood and enhancing the club member experience, the Sassies have historically worked together to reach out to our community in a variety of philanthropic efforts. This season, we are focusing primarily on the Emerald Coast Children’s’ Advocacy Center, whose mission is providing service for children that have been abused, neglected or assaulted by bringing together all of those needed to assist the children and families through the investigation process through healing and restoring their childhood. The carnival kick off event included a raffle of amazing items donated by various Sassy Sisters, and several carnival games set up to play on the terrace. Tickets sold to participate in the raffle and games raised more than $1,600. In addition, many donations were made to the philanthropic fund at the time of member registration. We are so proud of the generosity of our members and have raised all together $3,600. There is still plenty of time to join this wonderful group and build some wonderful friendships among other SRGBC members.

Many times, its not the team itself but who is on the team and how they work together that make something great. Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club’s 2021 renovation to the golf course is no exception to that rule. From Bill Bergin, the golf course architect to Detrick Brock with medalist construction to Kelly Barker, golf course superintendent and his entire maintenance staff, these men took in their hands an opportunity of a lifetime for your course and have created a masterpiece. For almost all, they have collectively played part in more course renovations than one could even imagine but the unique characteristics of Santa Rosa’s new course have made this renovation project special. The great comradery and joy found among this group is something you just don’t find every day.

Leading this vision, Bill Bergin describes the excitement of reopening and also educates golfers on what to expect with the first 1-2 years as the course matures.

We are not perfect but this course is so exciting and so much fun to play and we’re going to continue to improve. The third fairway is brilliant - it’s firm it’s fast and it contours great. The drainage is excellent. On other fairways, we’re still working on drainage. In fact, we had nearly 12 inches of rain the week before our grand opening which is good news and bad news. This high level of rain allowed us to know where we had a little more work to do in places and gave us the opportunity to fix these areas prior to opening. We are working to make all of the fairway’s function like the third.

Now let’s talk about the golf course, this golf course epitomizes my belief that golf should basically be an ebb and flow between challenging holes and opportunities to score - a bit like a roller coaster which is much more fun than a straight shot. This golf course really does that in spades as the first time you open with a birdie opportunity

but then holes two and three will prove to be great challenging holes. The fourth and fifth out by the beach showcase a lot of sand and a lot of movement in the dunes but both birdie holes. Then you hit a stretch of 6, 7 and 8 where you better hold on because they are really challenging holes. The golf course continues that way the entire way with scoreable holes on nine, 10 and 11 but lots of risk when you hit the meat at the back nine with the 12th and the 13th where pars will be great scores on those holes. Then we give you an opportunity to make some birdies or pars as you finish on number 18. Hopefully some of your friends will be sitting on the back patio watching you come in and make that putt for par. Number 18 will be a par well earned.

I can’t wait to see you guys play the golf course. It’s going to be a lot of fun and it’s going to be exciting.

It takes a couple years for golf course to really hit its prime but once we get to the warm weather of next spring the golf course is going to get better every week. Each week you will be wowed and each week after that it’s going to get a little bit better. Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club is truly the premier course in your area now and it is a course you will enjoy playing for years to come.

Dear Membership,

As we welcome cooler weather, golf at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club is back! Projects around the club are complete and everything looks amazing. We were excited to unveil the new logo merchandise during our opening weekend in the Golf Shop and enjoy seeing everyone sporting their new SRGBC gear. The outside dining looks phenomenal. It will be a great setting for tournament results and member gatherings. The driving range and short course are ready for play as well.

Our golf practice facilities are of the best in the country with the short game area, updated driving range, new short course “The Loop”, and Carter’s teaching building. The short course is going to provide an exciting way for juniors and beginners to learn the game in a relaxed environment, while also providing players of any skill level with another way to enjoy the game. Play on the new short course will be as allowed by our professional golf staff in the afternoons each Friday and Sunday.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you already and I look forward to getting to know the rest of you very soon. Stop by the golf shop to check all the improvements and meet your new professional staff. In this newsletter, you will see some new faces joining our professional golf staff – Lindsey Harrison and Kevin Snyder. These two have an excellent background in customer service, junior golf activities and professionalism. It has been exciting for Karen, Lindsey, Kevin and I to bounce ideas around and develop a game plan to provide an exceptional golf experience. The rest of the outside service staff will be joining us very soon.

I look forward to continuing with a fun, inviting culture while increasing the club’s service experience. Cool weather and members playing the new golf course are finally here which is what I’ve been looking forward to the most!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kevin Snyder and I recently moved to the area from Inverness, Florida where I held the First Assistant Golf Professional position at Black Diamond Ranch, located in Lecanto Florida. Fortunately, I have been given the opportunity to continue and further my career here at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club. I have been in the golf business for the last three years and have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect that the job has provided.

I grew up in Elmira New York and moved to Florida to further my education at Webber International University where I played baseball and graduated with a sports business management degree. Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and spending time at the beach. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and can’t wait for opening day.

Hello Members,

My name is Lindsey Harrison, and I am one of the new Assistant Golf Professionals at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club. I was born and raised in Panama City Beach, Florida, where at the age of seven I was introduced to the game of golf. It was clear to me early on that I wanted to take golf to the next level, wherever that would be. After years of competing in junior tournaments all over the Panhandle, my childhood dream came true when I received an athletic scholarship from Troy University in 2015. During my four years of collegiate golf, I fell in love with the coaching aspect of the sport. I was lucky enough to travel all over the United States and meet collegiate golfers from more than 30 different whom all had the same passion for the game. In June of 2019, I graduated with a degree in hospitality, sport and tourism management, and a minor in psychology.

Fresh out of college I began my Professional Golf Management (PGM) Certification and took a job at Bay Point Golf Club where I assisted in starting a junior program in addition to working in the golf shop and cart barn. When you get to know me (which is not hard) you will find out quickly that I am very passionate about two topics: golf and Grey’s Anatomy. After a short time at Bay Point, in May of 2021, I had the opportunity to move to Birmingham, Alabama, where I took an Assistant Golf Professional job at Vestavia Country Club. At Vestavia, I oversaw managing and growing the junior program of around 100 junior golfers, running the Ladies’ Golf Association, and operating the mixed golf events. At Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club, I am looking forward to meeting all the members and growing the game of golf to all ages.

What to Expect When you Arrive

The Bag DropA staff member will be available to greet you and aid getting your clubs out of your car. They will also be waiting for you upon completion of your round to clean your clubs and get your clubs back in your car. Please note that if you park your car without using the bag drop, it is assumed that you prefer to get your clubs on your own. During peak times, the bag drop will be staffed with one of your professional staff members to assist.

The Cart BarnWe will have your clubs/pushcart waiting for you when you arrive. If you are just coming to practice and are not on the tee sheet for the day, please give the golf shop a call and we will pull your clubs out. The cart barn is a high traffic area, and it is a safety hazard having members entering and exiting. The staff is happy to pull your equipment out for you and return it when you’re done.

The Practice FacilityWe will do our best to have the practice facility always staffed with a team member. They will be cleaning clubs and working with the starter to help get groups to the tee on time. During peak times, one of our professional staff will also be on the range to assist.

New Comfort Stations

The new comfort stations are available for use and will soon be fully operational. In the meantime, the access code can be obtained from your professional golf staff and we ask that you please write in the book what items you purchased.

Course MarshallingThe golf professional staff will be lapping the golf course backyards to monitor pace of play and greet you and your guests. We look forward to hearing about all your great shots and are available to assist with any questions during your round.

Taking Care of the CourseWe kindly ask that all members do their part to fill divots throughout the round. Extra sand bottles are available during the round at the comfort stations on #4 and #13.

Handicap Committee & Posting ScoresIn an effort to further elevate our club the Golf Committee has created an additional branch in the Handicap Committee. To be clear this is not a police force nor is it a grievance committee. Our focus is to evaluate, teach and inform our membership on the correct ways to input and maintain their scoring to insure the most equitable and enjoyable events, as well as build a Handicap Index that will travel the world with you as a player. Creating this committee also gives us credibility and ensures that we maintain the proper guidelines to be recognized as a compliant golf club.

In addition to the Handicap system our goal is to inform the membership about rule changes, scoring changes or anything else that pertains to the integrity of the game. Expanding our knowledge from our most dedicated members down to our foundation and future in our Junior Golf program.

In an effort to narrow in the data to build the most accurate rating we are asking that each round be posted hole by hole. (This does take more time but per the FSGA the GHIN system for inputting scores is moving in that direction as long-term goal)

Men’s and Women’s Golf Associations Are Gearing Up for FunThe Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club’s Men’s Golf Association promotes interestin golf with a focus on fellowship and sportsmanship among members and toencourage active participation within our club. From monthly tournaments, Endof Season Ryder Cup format for season point leaders, social events, and plan tripsto other area courses and more.

F R O M T H E S H E D T H E H I G H S A N D LOW SO F P I TC H I N G T H E B A L LThe key to having a great short game around the greens is your ability to control contact and trajectory on all pitch shots. With consistently good ball contact, you will be able to create trajectory control (high or low), which will determine where you can land the ball and how it will react when it hits the green. Most players don’t have consistently good contact, therefore, inconsistent trajectory which makes it difficult to determine where the ball should land. Next time you are working on your pitching on the club’s awesome short game area, try these simple drills to improve shot trajectory.

Notice how the clubhead passed your hands through impact and the clubhead finished in a much higher position, (Photo 3). Apply your left hand and feel that finished position, (Photo 4). Hit a few shots trying to replicate the same finish position. You will get the feeling that the right hand is throwing the clubhead past your body. This will ensure that the hands are not in front of the clubface producing a higher, softer shot.

SANTA ROSA GOLF & BEACH CLUBBUILDS GOLF INSTRUCTION FACILITY WITHCUTTING-EDGE GOLF TECHNOLOGY

Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club (SRGBC) announced the transformation of their past teaching building into a sophisticated instruction facility. As part of their renovation of the course and club, this facility will provide members with a new learning experience unparalleled to any other instruction facility in the Emerald Coast area.

The indoor, year-round golf instruction facility will showcase expert teaching and learning programs along with a certified club fitting, and some of the best golf instruction technology in the world. The instruction provided will be similar to having a group of experts in the room at all times. While other training facilities have similar building and instruction, SRGBC’s full technology package and the level of instruction by their PGA staff make this facility far superior to any other on the Emerald Coast.

The facility will include industry-leading technology like the Trackman 4, with optically enhanced dual radar tracking technology. This system allows tracking of all types of shots and putts with unrivaled accuracy which allows for a perfect analysis with fact-based confidence.

“We are thrilled to be able to not only provide an upgraded course but also a new teaching facility that will truly make Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club stand out amongst other golf facilities in the Emerald Coast area,” said Carter Murchison, director of instruction for the club.

Additionally, SRGBC will offer a V1 Pressure mat in the teaching facility. This advanced mat measures pressure, velocity, and dynamic force throughout a golf swing. The new mat includes a new wave of technology with sensor fabric to measure three key forces in a golf swing to improve ground feet mechanics and overall swing performance. Lessons are available for purchase for members and the public. However, access to practice areas will be restricted to members only.

The transformation of the teaching facility has been extensive over the last few months. The building renovation includes painting of the interior and exterior, hardscaping changes around the building, as well as new lighting and flooring. Exciting new additions to the facility include a new hitting mat area, holes for putting, TV monitors, grip repair and a loft machine room. The improvements of the teaching facility are set to be complete by October, just weeks before the course and club renovation is complete.

What a wonderful couple of months we have had here at Vue on 30a. With all the incredible work being done on the golf side of the club, Vue on 30a has become an energetic hub of food, drink and social time for so many of our members, and for that, we couldn’t be more grateful. Live music, card games and Sassy Sister events have all been a part of our recent goings on and each one has been a pleasure. To top it all off, we were so glad to have our friends from the Wagner Family of wine come and join us for a fantastic wine dinner this past month. Chef and his team really outdid themselves, the service staff delivered their quality care, and the wine was wonderful as well. We look forward to having the opportunity to do more events like these in the coming months, so be on the lookout for information and signups.

As we move into the holiday seasons ahead, ensure you mark your calendar for some of the restaurant’s staple events like the Thanksgiving Brunch and New Year’s Eve dinner. Reservations for these events will be made directly through our hostess staff by calling 850.267.2305.

Fall is my favorite season of the year. There is something about the cooler weather that brings family and friends close together. It’s a time for holiday celebration, cozy clothes, comfort foods and entertaining those you love most. In recent years, there has become an entertainment piece for parties that is a must. The charcuterie board.

Whether you’re having a casual get together, or hosting a fancy dinner, the charcuterie board is sure to entertain. My favorite thing about these boards, is the variety. People love to pick and choose what they like, and there is an abundant number of flavors that can come together when pairing meats, cheeses, spreads and fruits.

The ingredients for your board can be tailored to the season as well. For fall- figs, dried apricots, crisp apples, sundried tomato garlic cheese, brie, pumpkin seeds, roasted walnuts, local honey, chocolate and autumn flowers are sure to impress!

Originally from Jamaica, Vue on 30a’s Executive Chef, Isley Whyte brings to the table an array of cooking techniques with different spices and flavors passed down to him from family in addition to his culinary training in the United States.

Creating delicious meals where people can gather is nothing short of a staple in Whyte’s life. Growing up as the oldest of 11 children, he became a natural leader and teacher at a young age. Instead of attending school, it was his job to gather foods for his family to take to the market each and every day. However, his favorite part of the day was cooking in the kitchen with his “auntie”. “We would cook for the family during the week and bake desserts on the weekend,” says Whyte. “I’ve always loved learning to create new dishes and cooking for family and friends.”

In 2005, Whyte had the opportunity to move to the United States. Over the years, Whyte has worked his way up – proving his seat at the table - starting as a dishwasher, pantry attendant, lead grill cook and key associate and sous chef among other roles. During this time, Whyte studied culinary creations alongside some of South Walton’s best chefs.

We spent a few minutes with Chef Whyte to dive into his creative process for creating his dishes and how his Jamaican roots have influenced the flavors he has brought to Vue on 30a. Here is what he shared:

What lessons from a child did you learn and still use today?

Baking takes time, you can’t rush it. Cooking low temperature and taking your time. At the time I was learning to bake with my auntie, we had wooden floors. So, you had to be careful walking around the oven not to move things inside. It sticks with me today; I gently close my oven doors to make sure it doesn’t shake.

56

What was your favorite dish youand your auntie cooked together?

When I was young, Jamaican Beef Patty and Coco bread. We also made lots of syrups from scratch, like grenadine. In fact, I’d like to start doing that again, actually, bringing homemade syrups to Vue on 30a.

Tell us more about the market in Jamaica and what your job was?

At 11 years old, we had a shop with a veranda. My auntie had a baby which allowed me more responsibilities - so I was in charge of prepping foods from A-Z and stocking the shop. I really enjoyed it, but wish I had spent more time paying attention to all the things I was learning.

What was something that surprised you when you moved to the United States?

Everything tastes different, like sugar. In Jamaica, you only used sugar when making cakes- here you have white sugar, brown sugar. Even fruits taste different. So, learning how to pair ingredients took a little time.

How does your childhood in Jamaicainfluence your cuisine today?

Everyday things I do brings back memories. At a young age, I knew what food we were going to eat each day because my momma had to plan. I still think about how my momma planned and use it today when planning my week and specials I want to create.

What dishes take you back to your childhood memories?

Always. Curry, jerk, and the BBQ’s always take me back home.

Fellow Members:

When the board approved the multi-million-dollar renovation of our golf course, a group of members headed up by Rick and Karen Schoonover wondered how we could bring our tired clubhouse into the 21st century so it would be as beautiful as our new course without having funds available to make needed upgrades. Our answer was Operation Lipstick, based on the concept of holding member-based fundraising events. During the Moonlight Dinner on the Beach and the Schoony Scramble and with generous donations from individuals, Operation Lipstick has raised more than $133,000. Additionally, many members have donated materials like flooring, their professional services and their time to our Lipstick efforts. Our grass roots spirit is alive and well.

After a COVID delay, we were finally able to move forward with plans for renovating Schoony’s 19th Hole. The finished product includes new chairs, tables, flooring, front and rear mahogany entry doors, trim, lighting and ceiling fans, a totally new bar, foot rail, additional cabinets and storage, a logo wall, new and additional TV’s, new and/or refurbished kitchen equipment, a rework of the trophy display area, modern modifications to the Golf Shop and upgrades to the kitchen service area.

The cost for the extensive list of interior upgrades stretched beyond the funds raised to date by Operation Lipstick. Earlier this year, the Board approved funds to cover the remaining cost of these interior updates. Our desire to put forward a finished clubhouse project matching the elevated experience of our new golf course was what drove these changes. Each dollar

spent has been scrutinized and we are proud of the updates.

The upgrades which extend the concept of Schoony’s out onto newly designed hardscape and landscaped expansive patio areas towards the 18 green mean more patio furniture is needed at a cost of approximately $50,000. This new area is phenomenal and will provide hours of enjoyment for our members daily and at tournaments and special events. We are committed to completing this look but our Operation Lipstick funds are exhausted, having been applied to the extensive interior improvements. However, the furniture has been ordered with funds provided by the Board. As donation funds accumulate during our campaign, we will return the $50,000 to the club.

Looking ahead, our Operation Lipstick Committee is meeting soon to plan some entertaining fundraising events for members to be held in 2022. As we finish up our golf-related projects including the patio furniture, our new focus will be on upgrades at Vue on 30a and the Beach Club. The House & Grounds Committee headed up by Ashley Loyd, has identified an inventory of needed improvements on the beach side. We will work with them to prioritize and select ones on which we will focus our efforts.

I thank each of you who have contributed to Operation Lipstick in the past and look forward to seeing you and many other members at our future events. In the meantime, if you are interested in making a donation to assist with the furniture purchases, speak to any of our committee members or email Allison in Accounting at [email protected].
