Activities That Teach —

a workshop for those working with youth

March 4, 2020 Snowdate March 11

10:00am-2:00pm Cost: $25 per person (includes lunch)

$20 for more than one participate from the same organization

Kids learn best by doing! This workshop presents user-friendly activities designed for grades three through twelve which will influence student behavior for a lifetime. The activities cover many life skill areas — communication, problem solving, working together, decision making, self-esteem, and more. Best part, the activities require very little preparation and materials and take 5 to 30 minutes. Kids love participating because they are non-threatening, safe and most of all fun. Use the activities as stand-alone modules or to add some spice to lesson plans you already teach. Each activity comes with the teaching concept explained, materials needed, activity description, and suggested questions. Activities have been helpful for those in the classroom, after-school programs, camps, church groups, etc.

Thanks to the Warehime Foundation, Robert C Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust and the East Berlin Borough for their contributions to the restroom renovation project. Phase I of the project will begin December 16. For this reason, EBACC will be closed beginning December 16 through January 5. A temporary office will be located in the current Thrift Shoppe. The office will be open only to accept registrations for classes and basketball and the hours may vary. Please call to make sure the office will be open before you stop in. We are hoping to reopen on January 6 with our regular hours. Keep watching our Facebook page for updates and reopening date. Beginning December 1, we will not be accepting any donations for the months of December and January. Please feel free to donate to other deserving organizations during this time. Please do not leave donations outside the building.

Phase II will be started sometime after the first of the year. During this time, the restrooms will be closed. Heated portable toilets will be located in the parking lot.

REMINDER — EBACC will not be accepting donations beginning December 1 through the end of January.

Please do not place donations outside the building. EBACC will be closed from December 16-January 5 for

Phase I of the restroom renovation.

Do you need help getting started? Have you hit a plateau? We can help!

We have personal training! Call today to schedule a free consultation with one of our certified personal trainers. You’ll

love personal training with us! You will get one on one attention, planning for days when you’re not in the gym, nutrition help, all

with no contracts and the cheapest rates in the area!

Hi, I'm Jenn and I'm thrilled to be part of the EBACC Fitness Center as the new Certified Personal Trainer! I live in Dillsburg with my husband, two daughters and three cats. I am passionate about physical activity and have experienced many of the benefits of staying active. It's not always easy to stay on track but I'm here to help you maximize your effort in and out of the gym and keep you accountable to your goals. In fact, my clients inspire me to stay healthy as well! The foundation of each personal training program will be based on proper functional movement. Functional movements are the movement patterns we use all day,

every day. Like, bending down to pick something up, reaching for something high on a shelf, and carrying heavy loads (like children and laundry baskets). Proper form and proper body alignment throughout the entire program will be emphasized to reduce the risk of injury and to avoid any muscle compensations. Your program will start with exercises that match your current ability with just enough challenge to propel your body to make changes. As you get stronger, we will gradually increase intensity so that your body continues to progress and transform. We can't overlook the effect that proper nutrition has on our health and overall well-being. I encourage a diet full of whole foods, fruits and vegetables. And occasional treats too. I am able to guide you into making some lasting healthy eating habits, one small step at a time. Check out my website for more information: www.realsimplefitness.net. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions you may have! I look forward to hearing from you!

The East Berlin Area Community Center is proud to host the 25th year of our all volunteer run Youth Basketball Program. This program offers a fun-based, non-competitive approach to learning the basics of basketball. The emphasis will be on an introduction to, and the development of, playing basketball in a team environment. All children play regardless of experience. The focus is on socialization, building self-esteem, and building character along with ball handling, shooting technique, rebounding and defensive principles. Last year, boys and girls ranging from 5 to 16 years of age with many skill levels participated in our program. Youth are divided into the age groups below. Please keep in mind if there are not enough youth in one of the age groups, it will be divided with the younger youth moving down a level and the older youth moving up a level. Most games are played on Saturday with the exception of the 15+ team which plays on Friday evening. Saturday games begin January 25 and run through March 14. 5 & 6 year olds Saturday 8-8:50am Parent Meeting January 18 at 8am 7 & 8 year olds Saturday 9-9:50am Parent Meeting January 18 at 9am 9-11 year olds Saturday 10-10:50am Parent Meeting January 18 at 10am 12-14 year olds Saturday 11-11:50am Parent Meeting January 18 at 11am 15+ year olds Friday 7:30-9pm Parent Meeting January 24 at 7:30pm Practice schedule will be announced once all volunteer coaches are selected. Practices are scheduled based on availability of the volunteer coaches. Teams will practice once a week for one hour. The 15+ team practice will be held prior to their game on Friday evening. We have found that having the older youth practice and play their weekly game on Friday evening works best for their schedule. If anyone or someone you know is interested in coaching or refereeing, contact the EBACC office at 717-259-8848. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: January 6, 2020 FEE: $45 per child (includes t-shirt) $25 for each additional child in the same household (includes t-shirt) $50 per child after January 6 if spaces are available on the team (t-shirt not guaranteed) $30 for each additional child in the same household after January 6 (t-shirt not guaranteed) FULL PAYMENT is due at time of registration. NO REFUNDS after January 6, 2020

—Scholarships available for youth who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch Program— EBACC is dedicated to making this program a great success once again! If you have any additional questions, please contact the EBACC Office at 717-259-8848. NOTE: EBACC will be closed 12/16/19-1/5/20 for renovations. A temporary office will be located in the Thrift Shoppe to accept basketball registrations.

Public Speaking Every teen has the potential to lead. Leadership requires influence. Our words and actions influence others every day. A leadership assessment quiz provides teens immediate feedback in the first week; this information is personal and not shared in class. Teens learn to cultivate leadership along side learning how to

become an effective public speaker. Their potential, confidence, and personal growth plans arise through this course as they learn to intentionally add value to others through discovering their own unique leadership and public speaking styles. Body gestures, eye contact, vocal variation, handshakes, posture, how to receive and provide feedback, and stage presence are taught through self-evaluation and peer/instructor input. Leadership increases self-worth and self-esteem and this class enriches these personal development areas through a series of impromptu and prepared speeches, classroom exercises, and homework that is for self-assessments. The last class culminates with a Public Speaking Night open to family and friends as their audience in the EBACC gym. This event provides the teens a real-life experience before a semi-unfamiliar audience on a large stage. By the 9th week of classes, the teens are transformed into confident leaders and speakers and ready to showcase their skills. Open to 7th-12th graders. Maximum 12 students. Fluid Acrylic Mixed Media Painting Class This unusual, fun painting course is designed to unleash the creative spirit in its participants, whether you are an experienced painter or seeking to explore the artist within. No previous art training

necessary—no brushes! (Unless you want to try over painting.) Through diverse techniques and mixed media, you will produce unique one-of-a-kind miniature (or larger) works of art for notecards, desk art, wall arrangements, ornaments, easel display, and more. The sometimes bizarre techniques demonstrated include puddle, swipe, flip cup, dipping, under and over painting, cell creation and stretch, wandering tornado, tree and swirling rings, string pulling, acrylic skins, and other innovative techniques resulting in impressionist, realistic, and abstract art. Many of these methods result from experimentation--you are limited only by your imagination. Three-fold ingenuity is expressed on canvas and other surfaces, by color and media, and by naming your mini-masterpieces. Supplies necessary to produce at least 10 paintings are furnished. DATE: Mondays, March 9-April 6 TIME: 6:00-8:00pm FEE: $35
